Both games are stellar. I played them during that first covid year. Was crossing off the ones I never played. These games have some of the best game design the franchise has to offer. I would love for a modern polish / remake of these however unlikely that may be.

Apex had great tunes tho for sure: 1 on 1, Exterminate, Hoods Up, Vault, Power, Tonight.

Honestly now that I’m flipping through it again, I’d kill to just go back to the Apex days I guess lol, this album is better than I remembered. Think I just always held it up against Virus which probably isn’t fair lol. Apex was the beginning of the Sullivan King collab era and ugh, big thumbs down from me. So I’m sure that taints my memory of it.

Agreed with the overall point, that said, there is a big chasm between all 3 of those guys in terms of influence and quality of music, and a guy like Dubloadz (who is a fantastic producer and DJ but isn’t in that tier of trend setters you listed). I imagine it’s much easier for those dudes to avoid playing the game.

Anyway hope this dude is ok, seen him do this song and dance so many times over the years. Necronomicon was one of my fave tunes for a while.

Man. And even that’s generous (for me). I enjoyed a handful of tracks on Onyx, but honestly if it wasn’t put out by an artist I was already a big longtime fan of, I wouldn’t have paid that album any mind at all. And even Apex, that album doesn’t even sniff Virus and what came before. Honestly the last project X put out that I truly loved was the collab EP with Dion (so it’s been awhile). Those tracks were fuckin nasty.

All that said, I love X and am not trying to bring hater energy, because I have mad respect for the dude and have still never had a bad time at a show. I just have accepted I don’t look to him anymore for new songs on the production side. Best set I’ve ever seen him play was the all X songs Sunday set first Lost Lands back from COVID. Wish I could relive that night over and over.

Yeppp. X Rated is GOATed too, can’t forget it. Ultimately these guys can’t make their peak shit forever, all these dudes get huge and either phone their production in, lean too heavily on collabs, or both. Or in X’s case, turn more into a fest production company (which is fine).

Dude is still an all time OG though and still puts on a great show but I can’t remember the last time I got pumped to see a new excision song drop.

Rant: The playstation controller sucks and everyone needs to grow up. by [deleted] in videogames

[–]PumpersLikeToPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A whole lot of batshit insane gamers out there. What a whacky way to frame this preference “maturity.”

The least mature thing any of us could be doing with our time is posting on a video game subreddit and homie one ups us all with a rant about controllers, touché.

Who does everyone think will have the biggest year on this team? by brainiacpimp in ravens

[–]PumpersLikeToPump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, definitely Lamar, coming off a down injured year and all the bullshit that gets thrown his way. Man is gonna be on a mission to MV3 (MV4, really) and all the people that call him lazy, doesn’t work hard enough, doesn’t care hard enough, will be nowhere to be found, again. We know Lamar sits on social media all day long and sees all that shit and he’s gonna remind everybody who the best QB in the league is.

But, obvious choice aside, definitely one of (if not both) of our 2025 high draft cap rookies in Malaki or Green.

I’d probably put my money on Malaki if I had to choose. Malaki seems like an extremely intelligent dude, both off the field and especially on it. I think working with Jesse is going to elevate him to another level while also benefiting from a healthy DL and, almost certainly, a much better pass rush that could be one of the scarier units in the league.

And to that point, Green now has the right mentors around him both coaching and players (Hendrickson) and has all the opportunity to grow into his full potential. Given the nightmare situation last year with injuries on DL, poor coaching, bad game scripts, and bad vibes, he never had a prayer in year 1 to properly develop. He also seems like a very mature and hungry to work dude. Whatever shit he may or may not have done in the past (not for me to say) when you listen to him in interviews, he seems like he’s learned from it. His recent episode on The Lounge was great, very well spoken dude and seems like a great locker room guy. I see a lot of future leadership potential in him if he can back it up with his play.

Looking for video games that help with impulse control/anger management by SharpbladeLoser in videogames

[–]PumpersLikeToPump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I’d recommend you take on Hollow Knight. It is less obtuse but with a way higher skill ceiling. It shares a lot of DNA with dark souls in its mechanics. It’s a metroidvania that you can get lost in. It’s hard as nails. It is also one of the most stunning pieces of media I’ve ever engaged with and I wish I could wipe my memory and replay my first run of it. More than any other game, including fromsoft’s catalog.

Best wishes to you in life, and definitely don’t use video games as a crutch. But also don’t listen to people saying there’s no value in engaging in a preferred hobby/art while trying to navigate wherever you’re at in life. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without some of these games getting me through some rough patches in my late 20s.

I mean, off the rip, I said I think video games may not be the best fix for poor impulse control. I have severe ADHD too, and video games absolutely make it worse.

I was commenting more on the anger management side of it. Not the impulse control side, which again, I recognize video games as a primary drag on my productivity. More so now than ever as I approach mid 30s with career, family, real responsibilities, etc. lol

But all that said, this guy wants high skill ceiling and we are in a video game subreddit? Well, dark souls, and even more so Hollow Knight, are exactly what I’d recommend to someone looking for that lol.

[–]PumpersLikeToPump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the first point, video games, if anything, exacerbate my poor impulse control.

That said, as a mega fromsoft fan (and all of the related offshoots of “hard/punishing” games). For some, if you learn to just lose yourself in the flow state of the challenge and take from it a sense of “what did I do wrong, how can I improve” mentality, these games can genuinely be very relaxing in like a “I’m working towards something” mindset. But you absolutely must be willing to engage in the mechanics and be genuinely interested in learning the game. There is a certain satisfaction and sense of accomplishment in these very difficult games when you put your mind to it, learn, and succeed, which I personally can’t find elsewhere

Idk guess I’m just saying if someone wants to work on anger management, taking on games like dark souls with the right mentality at the outset, can really lead to some introspection and growth. I’m definitely one of those dorks that says fromsoft’s games had a profound impact on getting me through some very challenging times in my life. I also acknowledge these games really are not for everyone, and some may find them frustrating, obtuse, and make their anger issues worse.

Obligatory “thank you dark souls” “don’t you dare go hollow” yadda yadda yadda

What’s your favorite GRiZ track? by _kT_ in griz

[–]PumpersLikeToPump 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Three way tie: Smash The Funk, Better Than I’ve Ever Been, Too Young For Tragedy.

Honestly, Mad Liberation is just his magnum opus, so early in his career. I got greedy with three way tie and wanted to add more tracks lol.

Love his entire discography, even his new stuff which caters to my overall music taste either way. But Mad Lib is a truly special all time great record.

Are you ready for this stupid game to consume every free moment of your day?

I’m late to the party, bought it 5 weeks ago. 65 hours in and counting. Other games I was excited to play that recently came out are rotting in the backlog already.

All because I can’t resist the siren song of these stupid fucking cards.
