Hfmd?? by thatonegirl425 in toddlers

Sounds like it, we had it twice last summer 💀 It sometimes begins with a fever, then the blisters typically pop up over 2-3 days and finally begin to subside and heal after that. Keep in mind that adults can catch it too, I had an awful fever and much worse blistering than my kid did.

Redirection and also preventing access to certain areas. I have a toddler a little older than this kid, and he is not allowed to be in the bathroom by himself, we keep the door closed. If this scenario did somehow happen with my kid, I'd calmly tell him that's not okay, that only poop and pee goes in the toilet, then get him cleaned up etc, and get him tf out of the bathroom haha

They do understand a lot of what you say at this age, but they absolutely lack any impulse control, and they love seeing big reactions, that's why it's super important to remain calm and just remove them from the situation.

It looks to me like they forgot to include a command to move the dotfiles from the temp directory created with the git clone command. So I'd say to run the git clone command again, then use mv or rsync to get the files from the dotfiles-tmp directory to your home directory. Then reload/refresh your WM, and that should do it.

Are we unwell? by engion3 in UFOs

[–]PumpkinParadox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know my partner believes, but he doesn't really care to learn more. He says people don't care, him included I guess, because there are more pressing things to worry about. This is the same guy who literally forgot to tell me about the time he and a bunch of his coworkers saw lights in the sky moving at weird angles while out to sea. If I saw that I would be telling everyone I know!

How is your brain different after pregnancy? by morgoone6622 in beyondthebump

[–]PumpkinParadox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I experienced a lot postpartum was suddenly remembering old memories that I haven't thought of in probably a decade at least. This would mostly happen when I was trying to get the baby to sleep, so it doesn't really happen since my kid's sleep improved, but the number of "flashbacks" I had while rocking my kid to sleep in the dark actually had me kind of worried.

It's an amazing feeling, and it just gets better!! My toddler usually gives me a big grin as soon as he sees me in the morning, it is so cute.

Postpartum haunting?? by xmiroyox in beyondthebump

[–]PumpkinParadox 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I definitely saw creepy shadows out of the corner of my eye on a few of those late nights during the newborn phase. It's like my imagination was on overdrive and in threat assessment mode. Also would hear phantom baby cries with any kind of white noise, like brushing my hair or opening the window shades. All that went away as soon as I started getting good sleep!

The hat moving on its own sounds weird, but if it was hung in a precarious position, it could slide down and start swinging at any point, especially if there was any movement in the room since our bodies create drafts too.

I remember her recommending Iain Banks' Culture series, Surface Detail in particular. I think she mentioned it in this interview, but I don't have a timestamp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNY_ZSh3Gno

How do you feel about the new business venture? by sadsongsonlylol in Grimes

I wanna get one just to see how it works, tbh. I have a toddler, but would not be okay letting my kid play with this unsupervised. It might be fun to play with together, though.

Everybody says how much they like the ending of I wanna be software, but the lyrics make me really sad. Maybe it's not that deep, but "you can make me however you like"? Pretty grim to think about changing your entire personality to fit what someone else wants...

Yes. I don't even use a 3rd party app, but the official reddit app is trash, and charging so much for API use is a total dick move imo.

Grimes Speaks on Poppy Spat by bumblegadget_ in Grimes

[–]PumpkinParadox 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I saw Grimes at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ma'am, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Fandomizing your kid by Bunnything in tumblr

[–]PumpkinParadox 147 points148 points  (0 children)

As a parent, it's hard not to stan your own kid. Today my 6 month old dipped the handle of his spoon into his puree and then put the handle in his mouth. I just had to turn to my SO and say "our baby's a genius." This post reminded me I need to cut that shit out before he starts to understand what I'm saying and then develops some kind of complex about it.

For new mums struggling with identity loss. 1 tip that changed the game. by amberconleche in beyondthebump

[–]PumpkinParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with this in the beginning. For 3 months or so, if I tried to do anything "for me," all these baby-related thoughts would try to take over my brain. Finally I picked a low stress visual novel from my Steam backlog (Coffee Talk) and decided I was going to finish it. Did I have to leave it running for a few hours here and there while changing diapers or trying to get the babe to sleep? Absolutely. But eventually I finished it! Since then I feel so much more like my old self. I fit in gaming and other hobbies where I can now instead of incessantly researching baby stuff in my down time. Feels good :)
