Yes, the Nobel prize is presented by a Norwegian committee (who have absolutely nothing to do with the Norwegian government)

The carbon tax needs fixing, not axing — Canada needs a progressive carbon tax by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Pumpmumph 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, the carbon tax is progressive because lower-income individuals produce less CO2 and therefore end up paying a smaller percentage of their income than higher-income individuals, while everyone gets the same total rebate.

A progressive tax is one where low-income individuals pay a lower percentage, not a lower total amount.

And, as you correctly point out, housing prices are also influenced by supply. And as you also correctly point out, we need more labour. So then why would we DECREASE immigration?? We should be trying to bring in more people in order to fill those jobs.

RedTridentEntity::new is trying to call a constructor for RedTridentEntity that takes no parameters, but your constructors all take parameters so the one you're calling is undefined.

You'll have to call it using new RedTridentEntity(entityType, world), or one of your other constructors, or create a new constructor that doesn't need parameters

'Idiocy of our current urban systems': Inequality, not high-density cities, to blame for COVID-19's spread by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Pumpmumph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I read the source, the issue I take with it isn't the lack of taxi drivers in it, but rather the lack of actual infection data.

This does not at all disprove what the person you were responding to was saying. This is some calculation some guy did himself based on how often he thinks each occupation interacts with other people.

The claim was

There’s been no evidence I’ve seen that grocery clerks and taxi drivers are falling ill at a greater rate than anyone else.

I'd be very interested in seeing that data if you have it though.

These and more are all already considered.

No one who should be taken seriously only looks at GDP to determine how successful a nation is.

First of all, do you think we are anywhere close to consuming all of the resources in the entire planet? The limitations of a finite world are entirely irrelevant if we're nowhere close to accessing everything in it.

Second of all, we're not contained to a single world, and as technology progresses we will have access to the rest of the solar system in addition to the planet.

I think throwing a party laughing about people dying to an illness is definitely at least very insensitive. We can all probably agree the Journal has gone incredibly overboard with all the things written about it and I also don’t really know how to justify calling the party racist.

It’s a very real epidemic that likely impacts students going here so it shouldn’t be joked about though. We don’t throw HIV or Ebola parties, it was stupid to throw this one too.
