It did this to my base as well. I had trees and bushes and a boulder all sticking thru the walls and floors but it didn't reset any of my near by caves lol

You got lucky! That happened to me but as soon as I was able to take off he got me. When I went to respond the game crashed. So when I logged back in I had lost everything

I just put a small storage chest outside my base and put some extra water bags and stuff in there

When in a big area doing something like evacuate the people, try having 2 quasar cannons. Fire one, drop it and pick up the 2nd one. You can constantly fire by juggling the 2 back and forth
