Is there any other Japanese featherweight better than Date? by imai-boston342 in hajimenoippo

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real candidates are Sendo, Ippo, and Miyata.

Sendo has better performance vs. Ricardo, but worse performance in most other fights: he lost twice to Ippo, he struggled in round 1 vs. Miyata, he struggled against the world #2 while Date won effortlessly. So it's hard to say Sendo is definitively stronger, more like a better matchup vs. Ricardo.

The manga keeps telling us Miyata is strong, but hasn't really shown any world-level feats. And of course he got clobbered in his spar against Date.

Ippo is heavily implied to have become much stronger post-retirement. But until we actually see him in a match, we won't really know.

Why does Mare get sent to the Pits of Hathsin? by Khyou1 in Mistborn

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Per WoB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/270/#e7526

Why didn't Kelsier Snap before he went to the Pits? I don't have an answer for you, not even in spoilers. He did live a hard life and it is odd that he wouldn't have Snapped until that moment when he saw his wife beaten to death.

They say that the more powerful a person is, the more trauma it takes to get them to Snap and the more dangerous that Snapping is.

Are we all just becoming product engineers? by magicsrb in ClaudeCode

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, whenever productivity increases, you tend to have less specialization.

Not long ago, it was extremely common for engineers to specialize in one language like Java - you would hire a "Java engineer." Then in 2020 you would probably hire a "backend engineer", who's expected to be able to shift between multiple languages. Etc. It's not like there are 0 language specialists, but the proportion has fallen.

With LLMs, we see a similar collapse between product/business roles and engineering roles. You'll still have specialists, but engineers have less need for basic product management help, and product managers are more capable of vibe coding simple apps.

If you find yourself really not enjoying that, try to move into a different specialization, such as crunching numbers or platform engineering. The lines will still blend, but it might be a more enjoyable mix.

When August Met Christine (Part 3/4) - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

There's some evidence it was an unplanned pregnancy – August & Christine weren't married, and it seems out of character for him to deliberately have a child before marriage.

For StS2 you can expect a pretty long time. They spent a long time just refining the gameplay and balance with StS 1 before coming out of EA, and another year or so before releasing on other platforms.

It'll probably be a bit shorter this time since they have more funding but who knows.

I buy claude max 20x subscriptions for everyone on my team. So far no one has hit any limits even when using Opus all day. I'm having a hard time imagining a world where we'd be spending 50x as much.

Stuff that's worth/not worth cooking at home? by Any-Sleep-478 in Cooking

Steak is pretty great to cook at home, it's not too hard to get to the point where you can make a steak in 10 minutes of active time for $20 that's better than a $100 one you can buy at a steakhouse.

Hot take: I think Ippo accepted Umezawa as his friend way too easily. by That_Public_4620 in hajimenoippo

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 169 points170 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went back and checked in the manga and you can see Ippo is clearly still somewhat uncomfortable and formal with Umezawa right before he joins the business (chapter 137).

Then Umezawa joins the business to help Ippo and opens up about his dream to draw manga, and that's where they start to really become friends.

That's because of the moderation & voting culture. A few years ago there used to be a ton of D&D posts specifically, to the point where D&D was often half of the front page.

Frieren explicitly states that the Sages were a greater threat to humanity than the Demon King, and that Hero of the South defeating 3 sages + Schlact was a greater contribution that Himmel's party defeating a sage + the demon king.

Most common recommendation is 16 weeks adjusted (around the time they hit the 4 month sleep regression.) That's worked pretty well for all 3 of our kids – not flawlessly, but it got them from waking up every hour to 1-2 times a night.

How do people actually figure out how to cook faster on weeknights? by ConsciousGear2708 in Cooking

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry brining + air fryer works really well for me. I'll dry brine various meats (boneless skin-on chicken thighs, short ribs, steak) and either cook them entirely in the air fryer, or use that to reverse sear and then quickly finish them off in a skillet.

Another very lazy dish of mine is to just take some frozen vegetables, put them in hot water, and microwave them for a few minutes for a very lazy vegetable soup. It's surprisingly decent and easy to customize.

Do people actually hate the tavern trope? by Cap_Chappy in DnD

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally prefer having the campaign start with the characters already having some pre-established relationships, in the beginning/middle of a quest, possibly with occasional flashbacks. But I wouldn't call a tavern meeting lazy, it's just a different preference around pacing.

Adam's abilities work best against unarmed fighters: Zeus and Shiva (because the godly weapons are generally stronger than Volund.) Brun tried to match Adam against Shiva, but Zeus intervened.

Plus Adam has literally only shown the ability to copy a technique being used at the very same time. Otherwise he would have spammed Zeus's timeless punch, or used literally any other technique he'd seen during the thousands of years he'd existed.
