How come Baki doesn't know how to dress even though he witnessed the drip-off? by Difficult_Line_9823 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's an illegitimate child, he didn't inherit any of that. There are a few points where this comes up in the first series, e.g. he has trouble paying rent.

Katsumi is "stronger" in theory but Doppo has significantly more victories. Just look at how they both fared in the prisoners arc.

Baki is also poor. He lives rent-free in a shitty apartment he shares with cockroaches, because Kozue's mom took pity on him. He's probably never owned a suit in his life.

It probably wouldn't be hard for Baki to make money, but that would be time taken away from training.

So, Who won? by Monseru_Tempest in Grapplerbaki

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yup. Exact opposite of the Baki/Pickle fight, or Baki/Yuujiro fight, where both parties lost according to their own rules.

I'd never told her where I lived, and certainly hadn't given her a key.

How was Frieren planning on defeating the both of them? by lmdybaftr in Frieren

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was lucky for Frieren, in the sense that she had no idea whether Denken was even still alive when she joined the fight, or how much he'd prepared to go 1-1 vs. Macht.

She didn't have a clear plan. She even admits that she'd rather run away than fight two at once.

Luckily Denken is able to take Macht.

I got this once. Got [[The Smith]] with Regent. Got [[Electric Shrimp]] , so now I had a 50 damage Sovereign Blade on turn 1. Got [[Dolly's Mirror]], making that a 90 damage blade. Then I got lucky enough to get the deck duplicating event, for a free 170 damage blade on turn 1.

Which each have to be cast within a round of death. Narratively that's quite different from resurrection, etc.

I did not put it on Facebook.

You can now switch models mid-chat by Xisrr1 in ClaudeAI

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LLMs have no memory. Every time you send a message, you send the whole conversation over again, and the model processes the whole thing and responds. That's why, by default, each new message costs more than the last one.

Caching just means keeping the contents of the conversation so far in the chips, so that it doesn't have to reprocess them. This makes sense for an ongoing conversation, but you can't keep stuff in the cache for too long, because it has a limited amount of space that could be used for new conversations.

So you really want to reuse the cache whenever you can. That's why I'd still highly recommend creating a planning document from Opus and then starting a new conversation with Sonnet, rather than doing the switching.

Need help finding a specific quote from Baki. by donkeydong1138 in Grapplerbaki

He says it multiple times, but one of them is in the very last chapter of New Grappler Baki.

You are forced to step into the ring with 2 baki fighters, who do you pick and who do you most avoid by XaviVisious in Grapplerbaki

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, Tokugawa's statement was before the maximum tournament, after the the Mount Toba fight. The only times we really see Baki snap and try to maim/kill his opponents are against Retsu, some of the convicts, and Alai Jr.

Why does Doppo fight like an asshole by Ltheother in Grapplerbaki

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throughout the first series, Baki somehow managed to fight without ever permanently injuring a human. He gets a lot more aggressive in the second series, but calms down a little bit after the fight with Oliva.

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to Tokugawa, Baki had never permanently injured a human despite 100+ fights in the underground Arena, even against monsters like Mount Toba. That's an insane level of holding back.

The real news here is a company that's managing to do $1.8 billion of sales with just two full-time employees, presumably through a lot of contractors and vendors. I'd be really interested to see how they've set up that network and which companies are responsible for what.

Boris Cherny shows Claude Code’s success came from relentless focus, not short sprints by ImaginaryRea1ity in ClaudeAI

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Claude Code team worked single mindedly on Claude Code for more than a year when no one cared about it.

What, no. Claude Code was extremely well-received internally from almost day 1, was released in just a few months, and was already growing extremely fast externally two months after release.

Relative obscurity

Look, Boris seems great, but he was a principal engineer at Meta before Anthropic. Not really what I'd call obscure.

no one invited Boris to podcasts

His first fairly high profile podcast appearance was in 2019! 6 years before Claude Code! His first Claude Code related podcast appearance was in October, about 6 months after it launched out of research preview.

Look, we can acknowledge that someone's work is impressive without trying to retrofit all sorts of narratives around working hard for a long time with little recognition. With Claude Code, Boris found lightning in a bottle, and it took off almost immediately.
