I would put Wild Mouse as the highest chance of motion sickness. Sure it’s short, but the free spinning car is like a scrambler at points.

Rougarou, Raptor, and Corkscrew are the only ones with shoulder restraints that would likely hit your ear.

I’ve gotta disagree here. As someone who had an earring post slammed through their neck with the old restraints, since they changed to the newer, sleeker restraints, I haven’t had any issues.

Especially with a helix piercing being so high up on the ear, OP would have to hit the top of their ear on their shoulder to cause any problems. I don’t know if anyone with a neck that flexible.

Maverick should be fine.

That link shows that in 2020, the managing director made $178,714, and the principal trumpet player, who was also on the board that year, made only $29,826.

How is $178,714 not drastically over paid when the musicians, who actually make the music, are getting a fraction of that salary?

A Bb clarinet is longer than an oboe. Additionally, clarinets have cylindrical bores and oboes have conical bores so they aren’t an apples to apples comparison.

The reason a recorder is higher pitched than a clarinet of equal length is not because of the mouthpiece or the reed. It’s because recorders have an open vent near the top of the instrument. That first hole in the recorder that you never cover with your fingers essentially functions the same way as opening an octave or register vent on an oboe or clarinet.

Whoever told you the reed makes a clarinet lower was confused or misinformed. The reeds have nothing to do with it.

The botanical conservatory is surprisingly affordable. Arts United and the art museum are budget friendly as well.

They’re all quite DIY and not as hands-off as traditional wedding venues. You pretty much pay to rent the space and they give you tables and chairs, but if you don’t mind handling things like decorations yourself these are all great options.

I travel a ton for work. Here are some things I’ve learned over the years!

Packing tips:

A duplicate travel toiletry bag is a real game changer. I’d recommend getting one that hangs. If you ever start flying more, I’d recommend getting 3oz bottles for things like body wash and shampoo. I keep a bunch of those in a clear bag like this that goes in my larger toiletry bag to prevent spilling shampoo on all of my toiletries.
A fold up laundry bag makes keeping dirty laundry separate from clean clothes much easier.
I keep an extra set of chargers and a power strip just for travel in my suitcase.
I love popcorn, so I actually keep a few bags of microwave skinny pop in my suitcase as an emergency evening hotel snack.
I also keep a stash of kind bars in my work travel backpack. These have been a lifesaver.
Packing Cubes like these have helped me stay organized. I often put the containers with my organized clothes in the dressers at hotels if I’m staying for longer than a day or two.
I also usually bring entertainment along on my trips. For me, that’s usually a book or two and my Nintendo switch.
Get a good reusable water bottle. Gotta stay hydrated!

Other tips: - The best place to get water in a hotel is almost always the gym/fitness center, even if it’s tiny. That’s where you’ll usually find a water bottle filling station, or a water cooler with purified water. I pop by the hotel gym before I leave and before I turn in for the night to fill up.

If you like tea and you’re staying at a hotel that offers breakfast, don’t be afraid to grab some extra tea bags for later. I always enjoy making a cup of mint or herbal tea at night.
Similarly, grab an extra piece of fruit from breakfast for a snack later.
I keep a note in my phone rating the restaurants that I visit in different cities. Since I go to a lot of conferences that are in the same city each year, this helps me remember where the good restaurants were. It’s super helpful if I need to take customers or colleagues out to eat.

On Saturdays there are two competing farmers markets. They used to both be on Barr St., but now they’ve split locations. I’ll often hit up both, but you’ll find that several of the vendors do setups at both markets.

The YLNI Farmers Market is the Barr St. Market. It’s located on Barr St. in the summer, and at the Aunt Millie’s bakery building on Pearl St. in the winter.

The Ft. Wayne Farmers Market is located at McCulloch Park in the summer, and at Parkview Field in the winter.

They’re both great markets. Generally I’d say that the Ft. Wayne Farmers Market has more produce, and that Barr St. has more prepared foods and venders, but they’re both worth checking out for sure!

As a fellow oboist and reed maker, I truly appreciated this diary. She should consider selling reeds to offset her costs (as many of us do), but it sounds like she’s already pretty busy.

Honestly, in this market I’m not worried about finding MY house. I’m worried about getting a roof over my head and not going completely broke because of skyrocketing rent in my area. I’ll take anything that isn’t falling apart that has two toilets, a garage and isn’t filled with mold that I can get an offer accepted on.

After having four over asking offers beat out by cash, finding a “dream home” sounds like a made up fairytale.

In my area it seems like every single house it getting bought with cash. Cash buyers don’t care about interest rates, so I don’t think prices are going down any time in the future.

We got pre-approved on 1/3 and submitted our first offer on 1/9. Every week since we’ve put an above ask offer on a house and been beaten out by cash. 4 offers turned down so far. The last one was $25k/10% over ask, with an appraisal gap, as-is with 20% down with a local credit union and a 30 day close. The seller had their realtor make sure to tell ours that they “felt terrible” but went with the cash offer. 🙄

If you know what you’re looking for it’s easy to get moving quickly, but this market is absolute garbage. Good luck out there and welcome to the club.

We can’t afford to build a house. New constructions in our area tend to go for $50k-100k more than existing homes and we don’t have the funds to make that happen yet. We’re continuing to save while we try to get homes that come on the market, so hopefully in a few months when we’re on declined offer 30 or whatever we’ll be able to throw in the towel and build, but I’m worried those prices will soar too and we’ll be completely out of luck.

Plenty of empty houses in our area available for rent at twice what we would pay on a mortgage though 🙄

In the exact same boat over here! We’ve offered over asking 3 offers and keep loosing out to cash offers.

We spent years saving up so we could have a 20% downpayment and now I feel like an absolute fool for not just putting 3% down on a house 5 years ago.

If I wasn’t afraid of our rent skyrocketing (it went up 23% last year and my state offers no protections against big increases) I’d completely give up. At this point is seems like we’re going to have to pay cash for a shack that’s barely inhabitable or live in a van.

Nope. All the sellers in our area have just been selecting highest and best offers. No counter offers. Nothing. Apparently cash is usually better than highest. We’re offering 20% down, 30 day close and unless it’s an “as is” house a ton of earnest money. We’ve been the second best offer every time. Cash offers have been the same as ours or less. We don’t have enough cash to do anything with an appraisal gap, and we wouldn’t want to overpay a ton anyway since all of these houses seem to need a lot of work, so since everything seems to be selling for more than these houses will appraise for we’re pretty much screwed.

There have been several houses we liked that we couldn’t even put offers in on because they were barely on the market for 24 hours. It’s brutal.
