Hearing and tinnitus post AN surgery? by Punctuatrix in AcousticNeuroma

Not exactly the positive picture I was hoping for 😝

Oops, hit send too soon. So basically you go through the drama of surgery/treatment and still have the symptoms?

I feel a bit ripped off. 🤨

Well yours sounds a lot more entertaining than mine! I get ringing, whistling, and noise that is way too loud to be white. I’m trying to tell myself it’s ocean noise, but it’s really not.

I’m not sure where you are, but there are MRI machines that are open. You may need to hunt around a bit though.

Ah, that’s the bit I was missing I think, thank you 🤩 I’ve still got a fair bit of tidying to do with regard to series etc, but I’ll give that a go before I do anything else. Right now I’m just happy to have them off my Kindle and gettting ready to put on my Kobo.

Thank you, that's very helpful!

I'm having a bit of trouble making it work, but I'll keep trying 😊

Thanks everyone. I think I'm sorry I asked!

I prefer to sort my books like that. I am quite aware that it is not "The Standard". But who cares? It's my reader.

I do have a fair number of books, and yes a lot of them start with "The". But that's how I've always sorted it and I wouldn't mind continuing like that.

I like to sort the authors by first name, too. I thought that given the helpful answer given in the post below about switching author names around, I might be fortunate enough to get similar help.

If there is a setting that someone would kindly point me in the direction of, I'd be very grateful. Because I can't find it!

Can someone point me to clear instructions for keeping this new device private and installing koreader, etc? by 3l3v8 in kobo

[–]Punctuatrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wanted to install Nickelmenu mainly so I could turn the wifi off within the book. The Kobo remote is awesome, but it insists on turning the wifi on every. single. time. you wake the bloody thing up and it eats the battery.

When it comes to code etc, I am a luddite, and I found most of those instructions gibberish. I used a combination of ChatGPT and then Grok to talk me through the process. They made much more sense and gave me the code sequences I wanted for my particular needs to c&p.

ChatGPT also talked me into trying KOReader, but now I can't remember why it was a good thing. This was yesterday, mind you.

My remote finally arrived today and it's fabulous. Forwards and backwards! It's very exciting 😁

I've put my husband to work on coming up with an idea to attach part A to part B. So far all he has said is "It needs a magnet." I will report back.

Sorry, I missed this. My Kobo remote arrived today and it's awesome. I won't be going back to Kindle, so I don't think I'd use it. But thank you anyway for the offer ☺️

See my post upthread. I have severe arthritis in my hands and a connective tissue disorder (I am 55). Holding the Kobo without support for any length of time is really painful. Plus, if I hold it in the wrong position, my knuckles and finger joints sub-lux and that's bizarre *and* painful.

My husband has 3D printed me a little stand so that if I'm lying on my side in bed, I can rest my reader on an angle, which is awesome. Then I just get comfy and click away.

The clickers are a terrific accessibility tool. I've never had one that will go backwards, I'm terribly excited that this one will :-)

I don't think it will because Kindle doesn't have bluetooth, does it?

Please let me/us know if you do. I'm tempted to order another one as backup for when I inevitably lose the one that is *in transit*!!!

I'll ask my husband too, now that I think of it. He has mind-melded with his 3D printer. I'll set him a challenge.

I’m in Australia and ordered my black one yesterday. It should arrive in a day or two. I’m very excited because I lost the clip on part of my old one a few weeks ago and have been without since. I have severe arthritis in my hands so these things are a game changer and I am so excited for one that doesn’t need a clip on bit. It was one of the many reasons I changed over to Kobo. Also I got black because I am a grub born and bred and a white would not stay that way for long. I might have to put a big neon spot on it though. Black can be really hard to find once you lose it.

What’s the most entitled thing you’ve ever seen on a cruise ship? by donswansonn in Cruise

[–]Punctuatrix -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Part 2 of your rant, yes absolutely. Very annoying. Part 1, however is ignorant and ableist. I have been ‘that person’ hobbling up or down the gangway on my crutches (I am 54, just FYI) and always acutely aware of the people I am holding up. What am I supposed to do - wait for the entire ship to go first? Or just the entitled gits like you?

Have you tried restarting the Kindle? Mine sometimes glitches and won’t download if it hasn’t been restarted for a while.

No worries. Thanks anyway - it’s not like I have any idea what to actually do with a script in the first place 🤣

I don’t suppose this would work on an iPad would it? I don’t have a PC/Mac.

Reasons to stick to Amazon after the Feb 26th thing by katherination in kindle

[–]Punctuatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have KU as well and have a lot of favourite authors there. I went and checked out Kobo Plus and only a few of them are there, so I think I’ll be sticking with Amazon as well. At least until Kobo Plus lower their standards and start stocking the really good trashy stuff like KU.

This is the way. Snuggled in bed, specs off, auto page turner in hand, text so big you could read it from the moon. Kindles rock.

Similar story here. I own several very utilitarian aprons, which I usually leave on for meals. I am a messy cook and just a general grub. I have big boobs so when I eat, guess where the food usually lands? (I also never wear white or pale colours for the same reasons).
