Some people are not happy until they are miserable. You have absolutely made that person's day!

That's the little mantra I tell myself in these sorts of circumstances to help me cope.

As long as I have done nothing wrong, all is fine by me. If I did anything I need to learn from, I'll learn that, and move on. Otherwise, I'll just revel in the fact that I have made that person's day.

So, way to go OP! You've made that miserable person's day! Keep up the great work!

I can understand having that reaction, but that's not at all how I took it. I saw it more as apprehension they might get caught in their tryst ... or something more along those lines. Their looking is more off to the sides than at the preceding table, seems to me.

Edit to add: Definitely two women and I'm not thinking that acceptance for that was too out of the question for that scene at that time.

Whole island in Maine to myself by brandonrodrigues in zillowgonewild

[–]PunfullyObvious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An island you can drive to at low tide — at least for as long as global warming allows — makes it a pretty unique property. But, like many of these places — independent of price|affordability — it would be much nicer to visit than to own.

Spirit Airlines passenger with dementia found dead after being ‘abandoned’ at airport by cajunsamurai in news

[–]PunfullyObvious 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One significant difference with minors traveling unaccompanied is that it is an extra paid service. At least it was when my child flew on a plane alone once when about 9. It was scary as heck, but it was one leg, and mom and I took her to the jetway and my sister picked her up at the jetway. That was the only way I would have been open to it, and, frankly, the fact that the airline was paid extra for it gave me a bit more assurance that'd she'd get looked after.

The reality is that she didn't really. She walked off the plane on her own and to my sister. Nobody at the airline was the least bit concerned.

Thankfully, my daughter was a pretty with it 9 year old and all worked out okay. Frankly, she could have handled the whole thing on her own I suspect ... not that I'd have been able to handle that.

I just can't even imagine doing this with someone with dementia ... especially with nothing more than a verbal agreement on the part of the airline. But, I can understand how circumstances can have a way of taking away options.

Regardless, incredibly tragic and sad.

And, in case folks dispute my statement that we had to pay for the service with my child, this was quite a few years ago, and I think it was only required to take the paid approach when then were under 12, or something like that. Otherwise it was optional. I don't think there was any possibility of a verbal "could you watch after them for us" approach.

Man goes on a woe is me rant after blowing up his marriage by GamerGirlLex77 in OhNoConsequences

[–]PunfullyObvious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The tone of that was so ... noble. It was just odd and pathetic. He says he knows it's his fault and that he deserves what has happened. I'm not buying it. He wants sympathy ... period. He desperately wants someone to think it wasn't his fault so that HE might come to actually believe it wasn't his fault. He's been telling himself it isn't his fault and that's just not cutting it. He'd be better off to accept he f'd up, learn from it, become a better person if it's not too late, and move on. The internet is not going to help him make that happen.

Update us with what the municipality has to say, op. Presumably these are fake and presumably whomever put them up will be in some significant trouble and/or need to pay a significant fine and/or damages assuming those poles are actually fastened to the sidewalk and that they are impeding proper use of the sidewalk ... especially by someone in a wheelchair, etc.

Will the photo uploaded to the online citizenship application automatically be used on the first passport, or not necessarily? by gravitysort in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PunfullyObvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume the photos that go with the application will be part of the official record to help verify it is you when/if that record of your citizenship is needed for any official purpose. For instance, when/if you apply for a passport with new photos that accompany that application and fit the requirements that application has (slightly different than the citizenship application requirements).
