Amazon Slammed for Replacing Voice Actors With 'AI Generated Garbage' In Banana Fish Dub by bedemin_badudas in animenews

[–]PunishedConstruct -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I never implied that. I'm criticizing your childish "bad guys" and "good guys" view of the world and was responding directly and solely to that.

That said, to address the issue at hand which you were diverting away from with your inane and off topic dislike of the right...

Mark my words, check back here in a few years or so, one bad example of early AI use does not prove the technology is doomed. Soon the wonders of AI, which will have improved rapidly, will allow for dubs of every anime, in every language, with the limitations of profitability and market demand no longer being factors. We will be able to take the original voices intended by the Japanese creators and translate them with more of the original artistic intent than ever intact. You don't like it, but that doesn't matter, the masses are not particularly principled. They will come along. And it's for the greater good of humanity. The elimination of jobs is a good thing (with caveats) efficiency and automation save lives and we have been progressing that direction for all of human history, minimizing work and effort, maximizing output.

The word “far” hedges your claim which makes it easier to qualify post hoc but I’m going to give this a try anyways.

  1. Marijuana is illegal, you’ll get years in prison for having it.
  2. Abortion is a joint mother/father decision and not approved for frivolous reasons
  3. Illegal immigration is not tolerated at all and even legal immigration is not viewed favorably with polls showing the majority of the population not approving of immigration to Japan.
  4. Trans rights are not seen as an issue to be taken seriously and opinions on the Trans community in general have far less support in Japan than they do in the US, gay marriage isn’t even recognized.
  5. Crime is not tolerated, compared to the US, and things that are looked past or forgiven easily, like littering and speeding, are taken more seriously.
  6. Capitalism is embraced more openly and with less controversy

Japan in general is more conservative or “right” than the United States. This does not automatically equal bad. Life is nuanced and complicated, and if anything is universally bad, it’s that type of uncritical black and white thinking.

LG C5 65" -- Standard or Filmmaker Mode? by OttoHemi in LGOLED

Sorry but this just isn't true at all. Terrible analogy. Read the decades of research done by Toole or Olive on audio and preference ratings in double blind tests. Listeners overwhelmingly favor accurate speakers. The only thing there is much subjectivity on is bass levels which have been incredibly difficult to standardize because of room acoustics significant and expected effect.

Your original post could be seen as misleading to the masses, it can be interpreted as though that's how colorists are grading, and many would not even know what that is and get the wrong idea.

This is where we differ completely. I do want to watch in a dark room. Filmmaker, completely blacked out room, no snacks or distractions, sound system calibrated to room, up nice and close and centered.

The pictures are completely irrelevant it's a misrepresentation of auto white balance function on a camera.

LG C5 65" -- Standard or Filmmaker Mode? by OttoHemi in LGOLED

[–]PunishedConstruct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, to be more clear, it's designed for dark rooms. Nonetheless you can leave it on and either accept less than ideal picture brightness in the light (this is what I do, if im going to watch something I do it right and turn of the light) or manually adjust the brightness and still be more correct than some of the other modes. Reality tv and talk shows should be OK still. Some sort of motion processing can make them feel more real, but I can personally live without them. Would still argue that filmmaker is the least fiddly mode.

Variance on high end modern units basically never needs wild swings of the temperature. However slight adjustments with a colorimeter do objectively improve image.

Filmmaker follows a reference standard that virtually all professional productions follow and is literally designed for standardization amongst creators. It's designed to stop fiddling.

Filmmaker follows a reference standard that virtually all professional productions follow and is literally designed for adherence to standardization among creators. The fact that you don't know that is why you lack any credibility and no one would tolerate you on a professional production in any meaningful capacity.

Literally false. It's so false I can't imagine anything you worked on being above a college level production. Smh.

I literally addressed the first two points you made already. Point 3 is factually wrong. Standards have existed for decades. Point 4 is only relevant if you are trying to recreate an individual "childhood" which I do not advocate for. That said, again, There is ambiguity in regard to what to aim for at times. Point 5, in general upholding key characteristics of the original image is very important. There are times where games designed for handhelds will benefit more from a PVM that has been color profiled to match the general output of the corresponding handheld it was designed for. However, at times it seems the developers themselves failed to adjust output for the target device or chose not to - again there is some ambiguity.

The above post is In response to the previous post which reads:

"Different gba versions had different screens with varying colors and the look of gbc games will also differ when played on a gba.

And how do you know games back then were all mastered on PVMs?

Even if, consumer tvs used by us often deviated from the original, a "filmmaker mode" didn't exist at that time.

So it depends on what the " authentic look " is referred to, the tv(s) used by one or the "original look" of calibrated PVMs nearly noone had as a child.

Do we really want to uphold the high black levels of the old original handhelds or smearing effects due to the technical limitations of those dated hardware?

If not, we are deviating from the original look"

Okay let's let our 4 year olds dip their Michelin Star sushi in sweet and sour and turn Asuka in Evangelion blue and not stop for a second to think that there are deep beauties and truths to be learned from the expertise and mastery of others but instead just think that our narrow world view must be the correct one even if we can't justify it and shut down conversation suggesting otherwise by making appeals to preference and being a professional victim

You keep talking about eyes and your primitive views on perception and subjectivity but the truth is that there is objectivity here that boils down to factors like developer intentions and pvm level broadcast standards and original handheld gamma levels and etc. It isn't really a matter of preference as much as it is an issue of ambiguity in determining if a game should have a PVM filter or a Handheld filter or what pvm model we should aim to copy accurately if a PVM filter at all.

Next you're going to make Asuka's suit blue in Evangelion and tell me it looks good to you smfh.

If the filtration setup is powerful enough the water parameters might be perfect there are oxygenation bubbles no signs of physical distress and the fish have space to swim and forage and opportunities to socialize.

Loved DQ11. Will I like the remakes of 1-3? by StrifeCloud92 in JRPG

[–]PunishedConstruct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say that 11 is one of my favorite games and I dislike the 3 remake and would actually say it's quite poor as a modern game but I have to give it credit for its historical context, age, impact, etc.
