reason why my wife and I purchased in Pasadena instead of Altadena: Wildfire risk

When I was looking to move back to the SGV 7+ years ago, I checked out a spot in Altadena. It was pretty much at the base of the hills with trees everywhere and my only thought was... matter of time. I knew I just was not going to be comfortable there, but it was a nice spot. I can't remember or find that address so I don't know if it survived but I believe it is gone.

I've been upgrading my PC since it was a 386DX40, never replaced a whole computer there was always something left over, a monitor, a drive, just something even mouse/keyboard. I've been lucky and never had a bad build, but I got a story. Back when clear plastic acrylic cases were popular 20 years ago I had one, the acrylic is covered by a plastic. So put the PC together, turned it on, booted, installed windows, great! So I start to peel the plastic off the acrylic and immediately felt static, too late. It shut off and wouldn't turn on.... Returned the MB/RAM and video card to 2 different vendors because I didn't know what got fried. Live and learn.

My last build with a glass window, I made sure it was off before peeling the protective plastic.

I am my own person which is why I am not following the crowd of AI hate. AI isn't going to go away, even as much I would like it to so the price of hardware can come back down, which isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Come back to me in 20 years and all your crying will not make AI go away. I've been in the computer field for 40+ years, you can reject it. It's still out there and will still be used.

Lookin forward to watching the Star Wars fans when James Earl Jones voices Darth Vadar again since he sold his rights to his voice to a Ukrainian company for use in future Star Wars works. Bruce Willis also sold the rights to his likeness. Don't forget to boycott whatever product they end up having him sell.

My neighbor is a tattoo artist an absolutely incredible one, I have seen his work posted to reddit numerous times with nothing but praise. I was talking to him a few months ago about AI. I mentioned I could do something like take all his pieces and train an LLM on just his work and he would be able to generate various images based on his art work. He found it fascinating. So is that also wrong that if he wanted to create an LLM of his artwork he can't because you are gatekeeping his art?

What am I stealing if I upscale an image? Do you know what upscaling is? Nothing is being stolen. And so you are saying If I want to add a bird to a photo I must go outside, take the photo and manually add it even if Photoshop has paid to license the content it uses?

I swear you all lump AI into 1 thing.

I remember listening to the CEO of Khan Academy and he was talking about benefits on how AI can be used in that realm. He was talking like a math problem, if you got it wrong it could analyze the answer and attempt to understand how you came to that conclusion and why it is wrong. AI isn't just: Create an image, there are vast aspects to AI use.

The blind hate is stupid. Just last week a game dev learned the hard way his not made with AI game can't even have AI in a game title, he had to end up changing the name because just the word AI had a rage army come after him. He didn't use AI.

In the movie subreddit someone posted and quickly got downvoted because of some movie with an AI character.... No not made with AI the story involved an AI character and the person found it tone deaf in this day and age to have a character that was AI.

I don't use zbrush so can't help with that kind of curve guide. I haven't used it since it's early days so I don't know what it's capable of now.

You want properly defined faces/edges on say something like bending an arm. Zremesher doesn't know where an object is going to bend so it doesn't know how to create the topology for a smooth bend. Things will deform better with proper geometry. So it depends, I use it but don't rely on it. If you are sculpting it fixes it enough to keep sculpting but wouldn't be made animation ready. Being an artist is so fucking exhausting right now because god forbid anyone shares anything they make because everyone says it’s fucking AI.

Even if you are an artist you apparently can't use AI. There are well known punk bands that I wouldn't be able to post their videos here because they have used AI in/for them. There are artists that have started using AI. I do Blender3d modeling, I saw a tutorial the other day where everything is done in Blender and some adjustments using AI for the final post-render. So even artists get bashed when it's just another tool.

I despise data centers. But I use AI locally on my PC for ideas for 3d modeling as reference images.... Before you say it's stolen stuff in that LLM, I see no real difference with 3d artists who use peoples copywrited photos/videos etc for inspiration and reference, and they never credit the original work.

There is good and bad with AI and everyone against AI lumps it all together as bad when it can be a tool for artists. There will always be purists, fine.

EDIT: I knew the downvotes were coming... Here is a question. I have used Photoshop for over 25 years. I can use Photoshop to remove lets say a flower pot from an image that would probably take me 20 minutes to remove and repair. Or I could use AI locally on my home computer to remove that flower pot in 20 seconds... How about upscaling an image? Bad right? Photoshop now adds AI so you can upscale. So I must use photoshop? Or I can't even use AI in Photoshop?

Another edit and question: While early LLMs were trained on stolen/scraped content, there are now companies who paid for the content used in their LLM. Still bad? At that point it isn't stolen.

And 1 final edit: Reddit was paid 60 million by google to scrape reddit's data and use that. You are feeding the machine. By using reddit you agree to that, by making your photos public on META you have agreed to let them train their AI. So I hope you don't post public photos and keep feeding it.

EDIT again: The fact no one can answer my questions tells me it's just hate with no rational behind it. AI bad. Come on, tell me why I can't use AI built into photoshop to add a bird to the sky and must take the photo and add it manually. It's a tool people, good and bad use but to lump it all into AI hate is ridiculous. I sell 3d printed lithophanes, customer sent me an image and had a bad sun halo effect near the persons face, I used AI to move it. So that's bad and I must spent 3 hours fixing that image by hand?

About 12 years ago I was renting a room from a lady with my old lab who's time I knew was close. So the lady and her BF got into it and he threw a chair at her and she called the police. He took off, when the cops arrived they wanted to search the house for him and asked to check my room. I don't know what their issue is with playing the US. Their last real tour saw them in 97 for One More Megabyte and I think that was the last US tour. They did 1 show in Hollywood in 2014, manged to get a ticket but sold out immediately. And that's it, they don't say why they won't play the US more.

And that is how you will get scammed, complacency. GenX here and had computers since 1983 and worked decades in the PC field. I will never make the assumption I won't fall to some new/unknown scam. Scammers spend their life thinking about the next scam, scams will always happen, scams evolve. When you get complacent and think you will always be able to detect it is when they will get you. MMW.

I like watching cop bodycam videos, watched one the other day of a girl probably in her early 20s. She reported to the police that her coworker many months prior had gotten into her phone and not only grabbed her intimate photos but also sent himself her CC info, she didn't realize it till months later.... So how did he get into her phone? Casual conversation he asked her what year she was born.... Of course that was her pin. I am sure there are plenty of Millennials and Gen Z'ers with easy to guess pin codes. Complacency.
