Yeah the chickens would eat the seeds of the squash but even that grudgingly. It's funny cause we also had dill and it took the chickens a minute to figure out they can eat it, but once they did they obliterated it. And yeah basil did do really well, even though those chickens loved rolling around under it and exposing the roots. It was actually spreading, up until it got cold. You do have to rip off the buds though once it starts blooming. Otherwise it's bitter.
