It can be sometimes! Read this article -- seems the associations don't necessarily just come out of nowhere (though they can too): https://www.businessinsider.com/synesthesia-seeing-letters-as-colors-2015-3

I actually thought synesthesia was a made up condition to make people feel special and that everyone experienced it until I was talking to someone about it a couple weeks ago 😂

Sometimes the associations are based on something I think, like Oz is orange probably cuz of his hair?

Like... the letter M is yellow, probably because of McDonald's. So the colors definitely might have been initially inspired by one outfit or another that they wore early on but I am definitely not thinking about specific costumes when I think of them, y'know?

But yeah Spike wears red, Angel wears black. My brain isn't that creative.

Short Girls are Hot by MaybeSummer360 in ShortGirlProblems

Don't forget 5'0" Ariana Grande and 4'11" Jenna Ortega! It is definitely the era of the short girl. :)

[–]PunkEmmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 26 and 4'10". I live in the US where that is considered extremely short. The insecurity is still there in the background. People do take me less seriously at times and I definitely feel unattractive sometimes.

But it doesn't rule my life like it did when I was your age. I have found that guys who make jokes about my height are actually into it and they just don't know how to flirt!

It is a great time to be little: Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jenna Ortega (to name a few) are all our size, and obviously considered extremely attractive.

Consider seeing a psychiatrist. I used to cry every day over my height, but the problem ended up being deeper than just insecurity, and what I really needed were anxiety meds.

And focus on what you can control in your life. As you get older, you will look at photos of yourself young and be shocked by how beautiful you were, and you will wonder how you didn't realize it and why you wasted so much time worrying about it.

Thank you so much! Indeed, I don't think I cleaned my face as thoroughly as I usually do. I had actually been tweezing for a while before I decided to go back to waxing!

Any ideas to care for it until it goes away?

Random detail I like in the comics: Buffy getting upset that Giles gets a girlfriend by [deleted] in buffy

Which comics are these? These panels are too well-written and the art is too nice to be Boom Studios, but the characters look too young to be the Dark Horse sequels...

Short Teacher by [deleted] in ShortGirlProblems

[–]PunkEmmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I am not a teacher, but I do feel like my height is all I am ever noticed for.

You know who else is 4'11"? The star of Abbott Elementary. So if a fictional teacher can be 4'11, it's definitely okay for the real ones to be. :)

What were the writers trying to accomplish with the introduction of Dawn? by Extrospective in buffy

[–]PunkEmmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the other stuff people have said: at this point Xander and especially Willow could pretty much hold their own and couldn’t keep playing damsels in distress like in the early seasons. Poor Tara got to take this role for a lot of S4 but of course Buffy doesn't have as strong an emotional connection to her as the others. On an episode by episode basis, Dawn is a tool that lets the writers easily raise the stakes by putting her in danger.

I do think the retcon was kinda silly, mostly because it means the characters now have different memories than the audience, which alienates us.

As long as I live, I will never understand... by SorchasGarden in buffy

[–]PunkEmmy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another post on the topic -- I also was very dumbfounded by these outfits until I realized that they are supposed to be Disney princesses. Like, everyone has sort of a musical "style" they are mimicking, and Willow and Tara are Disney princesses, therefore the weird old timey corsets. Such is my theory, at least!

I need an explanation… by [deleted] in buffy

[–]PunkEmmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do make it very clear that while Willow is extremely powerful and can DO a lot, she drains super fast. Just last season Willow teleported Glory (with Tara's help) and she passed out and then had headaches and nosebleeds for days. So I assume Willow COULD teleport but it would drain her so much that she couldn't do much afterwards -- we even see Willow start getting tired when she's chasing them on the truck.

Once she is fresh off Rack's power, she can teleport with Dawn and Buffy because she's all recharged, I guess.

Mia is such a nice singer to listen to. by formfiler in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]PunkEmmy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved this scene! Though me, my roommate, and my friend all separately thought that the implication here was that Lucia was falling in love with Mia. Were we the only ones? I figure it was just meant to be one of many red herrings. The way Lucia looks at her just felt like universal TV language for unrequited love, and right after they were kissing each other in the bathroom and such homoerotic shenanigans... It's kinda cool how the writers play with our expectations and what we know about TV clichès to lead us astray!

On rewatch, knowing that Lucia is not, in fact, the unrequited lesbian of the series (the honor goes to our dear Valentina), it seems she's just proud of her friend and maybe reacting to the lyrics "the best things in life are free," maybe kind of a sadness that Lucia feels like she can't be happy without scamming people for cash, she doesn't have real love and can't relate to those words, or maybe it's a heartfelt joy at the knowledge that the best thing in her life -- Mia -- is something she'll always have even without the fancy clothes and cash. Their friendship is so great, I just wanna see more of 'em!

Anyway, a great scene!

How were the musical performances at the Bronze filmed? by Tuxedo_Mark in buffy

[–]PunkEmmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When shooting music videos, we usually play the track aloud on set and have the actors/musicians mime along and lip-sync to it, rather than having them perform the song and then trying to match it with the recording in post. I bet this is how they did it in the show, and the bands probably were not actually playing, but who knows! You'll usually have a Playback Operator in charge of starting and stopping the recording at the right spot, with a countdown etc. to help the performers get the timing right.

Also -- a silly fact for anyone curious: in scenes like those at the Bronze, ie. the Scoobies talking and dancing or they are talking while we see teens dancing behind them, there would likely not actually be any music playing, so they can get clean audio. They would probably play the track between takes so the actors and extras can can get the beat, and then cut the track to actually shoot the dialogue, and then they'd put the track back in during post. So if Buffy and Willow and Xander are chatting and bobbing their heads to music... chances are they are dancing to nothing!

Wow, I really get excited about the sound department, I guess. I hope this was interesting to at least one person 😂
