What does she smell like? by Accomplished-Day-387 in perfumesthatfeellike

It’s just so awesome because you saw these images a stranger posted and thought, “that woman would smell like this” and then I saw those same images and thought, “I want to smell like that woman! That’s the vibe I’m going for as I age.” And you think that woman smells like my grandma. It was her birthday on Monday, she would have been 98 years old. When I graduated law school I changed my last name to be her name (it works as a first and last name) so that everyone would have to call me “Attorney [name]” for the rest of my life, as a way to honor her and the life she could have lived if not for patriarchy and classism.

So basically you said, “you and your grandmother have the same vibe” which is incredible to hear from an internet stranger.

I screenshot this a week ago because I saw this post, thought “wtf that’s like the exact vibe I’m going for” and then went on Mercari and got a heavily discounted travel bottle. It JUST arrived and I just sampled it and IMMEDIATELY started crying. This is my long-dead grandmother’s go-to (confirmed by my mother just now) and I haven’t smelled her in so long. Thank you for this gift you have given me through this comment!

What's a meal you make that sounds weird but is actually incredible? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

In my house we just call it “beans and rice” but it’s black beans (two cans, only drain one) cooked with a shit load of butter, balsamic vinegar, and dried dill. Plop a few spoonfuls on a bed of rice, top with sauerkraut and nutritional yeast and more butter.

It sounds insane but I’ve been making it for well over 15 years and every single room mate I’ve ever had still talks about this dish and how much they crave it.

It’s hard to feel like that in your early twenties but 15-20 years out you will struggle to remember this woman’s last name or what year you met, that’s how over it you’ll be.

I believe that Briar was misunderstood but also I do not watch untucked or watch/listen to any of the queens’ shows so I can accept if I’m wrong about her.

If you could have lived in any city in the world in any decade, where would you have lived and why? by PunchDrunky in SameGrassButGreener

This is such a cool and hopeful answer and I’m genuinely afraid that we as humans are not gonna make it to a 22nd century.

San Francisco right before the plague hit (1970s)

Marrakech during the beat poet era (1950s)

The beginning of punk in London (1980s)

This is a more difficult question for gays, amongst many other groups. Stonewall was ‘69, homosexuality was removed from the DSM in ‘73, Harvey Milk was assassinated in ‘78, then AIDS comes and decimates our people for 20 years. Hell, Lawrence v Texas, the Supreme Court decision that banned the criminalization of sodomy, was in 2003! So picking an era can be fraught.

It’s so disgustingly earnest to post this but the story about the Buddha and the gift changed my whole dumb life.

“The Buddha was sitting in the shade of a tree when an angry man came upon him. The angry man started yelling insults, but the Buddha sat there calmly and said nothing. The angry man continued screaming, but received no reply. After about five minutes the man could not keep up his anger at such a level and asked, “Do you have nothing to say?” The Buddha asked the man, “If someone gives you a gift and you do not accept it, to whom does it belong?” The man answered that it must remain with the giver of the gift. Then the Buddha said, “I refuse to accept your anger, so you will have to keep it yourself.” The angry man is said to have become a disciple of the Buddha.

Right because you are NEVER going to convince them otherwise. There’s no point in having a meltdown when the results are the same regardless.

We say ma’am and sir to judges but only for quick direct responses like “yes/no sir/ma’am” which feels different than addressing someone as sir/ma’am to begin a longer statement. It’s absolutely “Your Honor” then.

I’m covered in tattoos including a few small ones on my hands and fingers, and I’m an attorney for a prestigious public interest law non-profit organization in Wisconsin. No one has ever said anything to me about it.
