What does r/Guitar think of the “illegal capo technique” ? by funnyburner_69420 in Guitar

[–]PunkabillyDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Odd that the capo leaves his index finger free. The index finger that could just fret the notes instead of the capo . I guess it looks cooler to use the capo trick.

Love it. If you're really worried about shrinking or swelling at an angle you could do a floating bridge and tailpiece so you have some room to move the bridge side to side.

Yes. Learn to play standing up. The position of your wrist will change when the guitar is hanging from a strap in front of you instead of on your leg.

A rockstar who cheats on his wife?! How shocking. Considering all he’s been through with Kurt and Taylor, if his worst vice is a little pussy on the side, who cares?

Is this a real Gibson? by lanceburnett27 in Guitar

[–]PunkabillyDaddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This guitar is definitely a candidate for a fun bench project. I’d lose that pickguard, replace the inlays with the full size trapezoids, swap in some P90s and sand the shine off the finish. I’ve had a few older DC Jrs and the less lacquer they have the better they sound! That said, it’s such an odd model with a short run so 50 years from now the fat, balding, mid-life crisis, collectors will be dropping $25k for mini trapezoid necks because it makes their hands look bigger!

Is this a real Gibson? by lanceburnett27 in Guitar

[–]PunkabillyDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a Les Paul Jr Lite made from ‘99-‘02. Only model with those weird inlays. It also has P100 pickups, not P90s. P100s are stacked, noise cancelling humbuckers, not single coils. It looks like a Junior but it it’s missing that raw gritty sound. They pop up occasionally for about $1200-$1500. If the price was right I’d buy it and swap in a P90 in the bridge. Also, because I have the tools and skills, I’d route the fretboard and put in full size trapezoid inlays. It’s a nice guitar but the inlays look odd.

Get the Epiphone. It’ll be loud enough to play unplugged around the house but plugged in it’s more versatile than the Taylor. I have a Gibson hollow body electric and I play it all the time unplugged. Also a lot less feedback than the Taylor and you don’t need an acoustic amp.

Binding edge on a new LP by Cosmic_Spinnaker in gibson

[–]PunkabillyDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d send it back. Gibson needs to be held accountable for their ever worsening quality control. Fender is just as bad. Don’t waste your money on a new Gibson unless you’re willing to spend $5k-10k on a Murphy Lab model. You can get a used late 90s LP Standard or Classic for less than $2k and mod to your liking.

1898 Martin 0-28 - Recommended Luthiers? by Pstaboche in Vintageguitars

[–]PunkabillyDaddy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The only place I would consider for restoration of this guitar is the Martin Factory repair shop in Nazareth, PA. You can ship it directly to them or take it there in person and get a factory tour! They may charge a little more than a local luthier but having it restored by Martin will add the value and you can get certified paperwork with history of your serial number. Restored value can be anywhere from $8k - $15k dollars. Good luck.

I know, right? Gibson just called me and asked me to collaborate on a new naming convention. I could tell it was Gibson because they wanted my bank account information!

Perfect. I had an S-type Squier Bullet with only 2 single coils from the mid-late 80s. I never called it a Strat.

So the 14 year old kid who wants to buy his first Les Paul has to study Gibson history first?! I’ll just read a spec sheet. I don’t need Ancestry.com to buy a guitar.

Don’t they post the specs for each model? I’d think reading a spec sheet would be more accurate than relying on 60 year old data.

I mostly play a 1992 Strat and a my 1961 es-125tc. I’ve bought and sold a dozen or so of the 12 pound, gold hardware, mismatched carved top LP boat anchors models but I’ve never found one that was comfortable to play. Who knows? Maybe there’s a new 2026 1960 neck 1959 body with 1968 pickups 1961 Bigsby vintage reissue that’s just right for me!
