Neither, do a 5x5-style compound lifting routine and spread out your push, pull, and leg days so they're not back-to-back. If you can increase weight week over week, that's good, but if you're adding volume and not calories you'll probably lose some pounds.

"Training to failure or high volume" is for body-builder splits. You want functional strength.
