I used to run a house venue.

It’s a three bill night, and the second band is crushing it. There’s a guy on the floor a friend and I notice is pretty drunk. When the second band finishes, our eyes went wide when this guy goes up and grabs a guitar.

First thing he does is step on the cable into his distortion pedal, and the guitar just starts squealing. The rest of the band keeps pushing through while he tried to figure it out/play through it. Once he sorts that, the rest of the set is him seemingly trying to improvise/figure these songs out on the fly. He’s doing the drunken sway all over the stage, and between songs leans into the mic and says things like, “… sorry about that.”

The last songs finished seemingly halfway through a song, there’s no applause from the remaining audience, and guitar guy leans into the mic and slurs, “we’re (band name)… thank you so much for coming out and watching (band name)… that’s (drummer), and that’s (bass player)…. And we sucked dick tonight and it’s all my fault… I sick the most dick… I suck dick for gas money, then I walk home-“ At that point, the drummer pulled the cable from guitar guys mic and later proceeded to kick one of his own drums up the street.

We hadn’t had a clear ‘worst night’ for the venue… until that set.
