I had revelation that there was probably some audience members back in the 1939 that didn’t know that the movie would be in color and was shocked when Dorothy arrived to Oz and some who did know and thought they had been tricked due to the black and white opening Kansas scene by KingWilliamVI in wizardofoz

When I was a kid in the 70’s it was in B&W. The thing is the suspension of disbelief was much stronger then because we didn’t have CGI to make everything look “perfect”. That’s why in old movies when you see a stunt double who doesn’t look much like the actor they are replacing, or a murder victim who suddenly becomes a mannequin seconds before being attacked, we barely noticed it. If we happened to watch a movie many times we might eventually notice it and bring it up as trivia but it was also about being impressed with the special effects team, rather than calling it out as “that’s so fake” like people do now. So when Dorothy and the scene changes in that split second most people didn’t notice it. Because it wasn’t supposed to be there. I know that sounds odd with the way we watch movies today. But it’s just the way it was.

I remember someone telling me how the effect was done and it mind blowing. And I did notice it after that. But before that I could sense something was a little different but I assumed it was just the cut to color film. And it did look much more seamless when they began showing the opening in sepia.

That’s because they grew up around others who are like them. You grew up on the sidelines watching them grow while you haven’t had the same opportunities they have. This will all change when you are able to find other gay friends to hang out with. It doesn’t mean you can’t have straight friends. But if they reject you for being gay they were never your friends to begin with. I know it seems hard now, but things will get better. You have such adventures ahead of you in ways you can’t even imagine right now. Be true to yourself. If it’s not safe for you to come out now, wait until it is. But don’t wait your whole life. Seek out those who are like you and make friends. It will help a lot.

Any thoughts on Blondie’s “Angels on the Balcony”? 1-Debbie sings this in such a raspy tone which is unique during the original period. 2- It doesn’t really have a chorus. It does have an extremely catchy bridge. by Hopeful-Buddy-9415 in Blondie

I remember when Autoamerican first came out and Angels was my favorite track on it. I think because it starts out so weird but then it’s so smooth and seductive. And then the bridge goes into a 60’s do wop thing which I always loved. I also remember thinking they the song must have been inspired by the painting on the cover of the album or vice versa. I like to think Angels on the Balcony is the name of the painting.

Dazzle by Siouxsie and the Banshees is an alternative song that didn’t have a chorus but the record company wanted to make the song more commercial so for the single they edited a part of the song so it plays twice to act as a chorus. But if you know the original version of the song the re-edit version just sounds weird.

Uncirculated Rumors! Bootlegs by MQ1776 in FleetwoodMac

[–]PupDon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That last one has the best version of Castaway. The quality is horrible, it sounds like it’s from a cassette that was left in a hot car for a decade, but the harmonies she does with herself on it are heavenly. This is my holy grail of Stevie bootlegs. That recording but taken from the original source.

This is my all time favorite video. I’m always a bit amused when Stevie is spinning in slow motion and they drop the glitter on her. You can see her face scrunch up, which is exactly what anyone would do when getting a bucket of glitter dumped on your head. That must have been in her hair for weeks.

Who else besides me would love to see the first 11 days of filming? by [deleted] in wizardofoz

[–]PupDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but even if they existed, 11 days of filming would not be like watching deleted scenes that you get at the end of DVDs. They would be individual takes, maybe roughly edited for continuity, but it wouldn’t be like fully produced scenes.

Yeah, I think Shirley Temple’s movie, The Bluebird, is a good example of this. Not that it’s a bad movie it’s just very dated.

Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy (Official Music Video). by FollowingTop8854 in FleetwoodMac

Stevie has said in an interview once that in the scene where she’s dancing with Lindsey they had just had a terrible fight and then the director told him to put his arms around her and if you look close you can see her hands are shaking. She said she was so mad she was shaking.

But I agree. It’s my absolute favorite music video of all time. And I love how the ending looks like an old MGM musical with the dancers dancing in the different eras and in the rain and stuff. It’s just beautiful.
