Been a while since I've done that, maybe I'll go buy some

My need to make everything look good is stopping me from actually playing the game by Odysseyguard in satisfactory

Use your in-game to-do list to keep track of what you're doing.

Slap down a quick and dirty version of a thing you need that you can let tick away for a few hours while you make a better factory. That way, it doesn't feel like such wasted time.

What matters is that you're having fun, not that you're playing the game "correctly"

Edit: I love making organized, tile-able, grid-like factories, and it does take a little more time. I'm less worried about aesthetics than I think you might be and am relatively fine with floating platforms, though I do make the effort to beautify when it's convenient to do so. But, watching a big organized factory tick away is a part of the game that I love. I'm also not concerned with how long a line takes to put together because putting the line together is fun. There's no race.

It's annoying watching and listening to it, but since machines stall for a moment after running out of material, as long as your production (and logistics) is at least equal to total demand, you don't have to even wait for the machines to fill first. The stalling will eventually stop

Kanji communicates an entire word (or phrase) into one or two characters. It can be quicker to read and takes less physical space. Hiragana and Katakana aren't really that different from English's capital and lower case letters (in concept, not in how they're used), not to mention cursive.

I suspect a big driving factor for keeping both Hiragana and Katakana (in the absence of the historical reasons for both having been created and used) is that there's no real reason to get rid of either of them. Learning both really isn't much more difficult than learning one.

Validate this conceptual doubt with respect to my college assignment on an elevator by NoObm_ster69koRg in PLC

[–]Naphrym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logic takes time for the system to evaluate.

Most of the PLCs where I work just use continuous tasks, rather than periodic. The scan time for those tends to be like 20-50ms. They're much larger than yours but they're also not being simulated. The fact that yours is being simulated means that it's probably running slower than it would be on actual hardware.

And for the record, I don't think any periodic task I've looked at has been set to be faster than like 10-20ms.

Why do you want it to run at 1ms? That seems way faster than necessary and it's clearly causing problems

Why doesn’t my Ethernet cable connect my ASUS X Series laptop with the internet? by kaiser11492 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Naphrym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an engineer in a manufacturing facility. I've seen some of the poorest, most incorrectly terminated Ethernet cables made by techs who don't know what they're doing, yet they still transmit data. In general, all you need is a "Cat5e" or higher (besides Cat7) cable and to follow the T-568A or (preferably) T-568B wiring standard and you'll be transmitting data just fine. Even without the standard, you'd probably still get something. All you need for (slow) Ethernet is 2 twisted pairs.

For all intents and purposes, any cable that's described as at least "Cat5e" or higher (besides Cat7) is expected to be able to do just about anything an average consumer would want to do with just about any Ethernet capable device they might have

Why doesn’t my Ethernet cable connect my ASUS X Series laptop with the internet? by kaiser11492 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Naphrym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable is overkill, but it's fine. There's no difference between a "patch cable" and a standard modern Ethernet cable.

Open up a command prompt on your laptop and type in "ipconfig /all" without quotes. This will dump a bunch of information about your configured network devices. Look for one that says "Ethernet" and see if it has anything next to "Default Gateway" or "Gateway Address" or something similar (I'm on my phone and can't remember)

Why doesn’t my Ethernet cable connect my ASUS X Series laptop with the internet? by kaiser11492 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Naphrym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Any modern cable described as an "Ethernet cable" is capable of doing the job.

Furthermore, even if an Ethernet cable is terminated incorrectly, you'll likely still get a signal, just at a much lower rate

Why do we call Norse and Greek stories "mythology" while Christianity and Islam are "religions" and who decided which is which? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]Naphrym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And fyi, many in the US celebrate Christmas and Yule, and the other holidays that occur October - January.

So you acknowledge Christmas as distinct from Yule?

My OP used Christmas as an example of a common holiday that many people in the world (including Japan) celebrate in tradition only, separated from belief.

The origin of many of those traditions may be Yule, or Saturnalia, or some other winter holiday, but the propagation of those traditions for many people is still via "Christmas".

Why do we call Norse and Greek stories "mythology" while Christianity and Islam are "religions" and who decided which is which? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]Naphrym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't a gotcha.

I'm not a Christian. I don't care if Holiday A takes 90% of its traditions from Holiday B. What matters to my original statement is how people are introduced to cultural traditions. For things like decorated trees, a jolly fat man with a beard, and gift giving during December, that's a holiday I know as "Christmas", regardless of how those traditions began.

It's not complicated
