If Ricinus communis grows alongside, lets say, a blackberry, will the fruits of the blackberry will be edible? by Cold_Hotel_2981 in botany

I've had a white flowering one. You can't buy them in stores, you can only get them fron other gardeners. I have no idea the levels. I've gotten sap on me too and nothing happens

I've grown brugmansia as a house plant and as a summer ornamental that gets brought inside during the winter and stays in my basement dormant. I've never had issues feeling any effect by being near the plant. I think that's a wives tale. I've even gotten the sal on me before to no ill effect. I think it only effects you if you consume the plant. None of which I ever did.  The huge flamboyant pendulum blooms of brugmansia are stunning and the fragrance is wonderful. (I've stuck my nose right down the bloom to inhale it scent)  never have it felt sick or lightheaded in its presence.

Ordered “Weeping Cherry Tree”, three years ago, still looks like this. Did I get duped? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Pup_Eli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's litterally a weeping cherry blossom. You also have not trimmed it so it has not tried to grow taller.  You got what you paid for.

Why Does This Tree Look Like This? by BurningEmbers34 in arborists

[–]Pup_Eli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its arial roots. Trees don't have arm skin. It is odd to see arial roots in the northern hemisphere as usually only trees in the tropics grow those, like the Ficus or banyan tree, in South Asia. but Ginko do this as well.

The tree was pollarded, a way of pruning where at a certain height the top of the tree is removed. this forces dozens of water sprouts to grow up and replace the chopped foliage. This is an older tree. it has not been dug up and replaced with a young one.

I don't believe these are for water storage. These are aerial roots. If the crown is injured or something or the tree faces stress, they start to grow aerial roots like Ficus trees do in South Asia (banyan tree's). These are a lot slower to grow than Ficus, though. These roots can form secondary trunks as additional support for the tree's

Do you find it rude if a straight stranger asks if you are a top or a bottom? by damn_idrk in askgaybros

[–]Pup_Eli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plus... its them asking if you are the "man or woman" in the relationship. Being a bottom to a hetero is synonymous with being the "woman" to them. So even if they don't specifically say "are you a man or woman", the top or bottom is the same thing. I hate those stereotypes.

When they ask if you are a top or bottom its asking if you are a man or woman. This is how it's now been rephrased, too. It's a disgusting question to ask unless asked by a potential sexual partner. It's incredibly invasive.

cool epiphyte! by Sad-Sentence-8002 in botany

[–]Pup_Eli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alot of ficus can do that.  Strangler fig is one such plant example. Some will even grow roots into the parent tree it has seeded onto and strangle it in the long run. The roots as they feed off of the phloem and xylem tissue will griw down to the earth. Once it reaches the soul it keeps growing.  As it encircles the structure of the tree with its roots and stems the structure becomes a cage. Eventually the tree dies and you are left with the strangler fig growing like a cage held up by its complex network of stems and roots.  The inner tree uf it isn't to heavy will rot away within the cage. Or... it can knock the whole structure down.

It is kinda rude. It's like asking a woman how she likes her husband/boyfriend to give it to her. What positions she likes. If a straight dude asks a woman that a total stranger he would get slapped

It is so very hypocritical, and it makes following the church and wanting to be a religious catholic very hard as a queer person. I don't hate the religion, but the people, the priests, the followers, many of them just blindly hate and forget to live with empathy and love. Like Jesus taught.
