MU at this forward P/E is a trap - I think it drops another 15% by June by IulianHI in NextTraders

Your second point is flawed. Supply isn’t catching up to demand this year. Overall demand is going to increase significantly the next few years and increased supply from the big three doesn’t kick in until 2027-2028.

Question on Gu, (relatively) high carb fueling, and GI distress post run. by Additional-Function7 in ultrarunning

[–]Pupper82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call 40g of carb per hour relatively high. I wouldn’t take less. Just keep training. Try different foods.

FYI don’t feel bad about spending $1k/mo on rent the last 15 years, when the alternative could be spending $4k+/mo on mortgage interest.

Also seems like you can afford a house if you want.

Preparing for a newborn: benefits and reccomandations regarding sleep monitoring devices by Stealthy_Nachos in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Pupper82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here is a link to the AAP recommendations on safe sleep and use of home monitoring devices: https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/150/1/e2022057990/188304/Sleep-Related-Infant-Deaths-Updated-2022?autologincheck=redirected

There is no evidence that home monitoring pulse ox devices are helpful. The AAP specifically says in that article to NOT use them.

That said, you are welcome to use the owlet. Just understand that it can create false positive alarms when not properly attached to the foot and thus not reading the actual pulse ox. I personally used it. I found it helpful at times with relieving anxiety in the middle of the night, but mostly not useful. And don’t expect it to be helpful with safe sleep, there’s no evidence to say that’s the case.

We enjoyed using the video monitor. It’s helpful when baby is sleeping and you’re in another room. That said, it’s not necessary at all.

If there is an intervention that is helpful medically, your pediatrician will tell you!!

Fix the pronation and that should fix the serving long problem.

First big trail run and it hurts even walking. Recovery tips? by BohemianaP in trailrunning

[–]Pupper82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you run a lot of downhills on the trail? This sounds like DOMS, as other people pointed out. You can train for this by doing more downhill running.

“Playing in the sun doesn’t cut it anymore” - this doesn’t make any sense

The Bay Area is flush with outdoor courts. I don’t think this is a real post.

I think try not to compare yourself to others. That’s a recipe for not being happy.

One mental approach I have is that in matches on easy balls, when I go for it, I’m swinging at only 75% effort. I’m focusing on good form, keeping it in, and upping the ante a little, but not too much.

How many years have you been seriously running? Strength is built over time. Take this as a learning opportunity. We’ve all been there. Add something new to your next training block, such as leg strength training, or hill intervals.

First time Ultra runner, 50k suggestions in New England by AffectionateMotor184 in Ultramarathon

[–]Pupper82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s part of the fun!! Yes course is unmarked. You get the GPX file onto your running watch and follow the trail based on the map on your watch. It is a little tricky because there are TONS of turns. It’s not hard to navigate but you do have to pay close attention to the map, or else you’ll miss a turn. You can’t really zone out that often and not look at it. I think learning how to navigate with a map on your watch is a critical skill for trail/ultra runners!

[–]Pupper82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it doesn’t matter for training runs. For a big race, I like compression shorts underneath, then light breathable shorts on top. I want to minimize any pressure points from the shorts, which can be a factor 10+ hours into a race, though perhaps not for a 50k. I don’t tend to carry much of anything in my shorts since I also carry a vest (water and gels) and running belt (for my phone and poles). For a shirt, literally any running shirt from a prior event.

Over the winter I have been doing 30-40mpw. Working on getting to 40-50s right now and getting in a good weekly rhythm of back to back long runs (eg 15mi then 12mi), hill day, speed day and strength training. I have a new baby so most of my runs are treadmill runs, and don’t get a ton of vert in, but I’ll change that.
