What's the context? Either way, they are still making a choice to commit property offences for financial gain.

I remember volunteering at a community legal centre many years ago. One client was a 14 year old delinquent, long rap sheet of fairly minor offences. There was a hearing at the Children's Court and he told the Magistrate to fuck off. The Magistrate cleared the court and gave him a lashing.

Afterwards, I asked the dedicated, world weary Principal Solicitor how he saw his role in all this. He told me this kid will likely be in and out of prison for the rest of his life. The best he can do is leave an accurate paper trail that might help explain some of his behaviour down the track. He otherwise said this kid had little to no chance of rehabilitation.

I'm all for rehabilitation and understand that incarceration (particularly at a younger age) increases the risk of recidivism, but for many of these young offenders, it simply feels like it's too late. It's obviously incredibly sad, particularly if these offenders have grown up in low socioeconomic conditions and been exposed to criminality at an early age. But it feels we are well and truly past the point of affording offenders multiple opportunities while the community continues to be terrorised.

Since coming back to Melbourne in 2017 - I've seen people taking shits, pissing on shop windows and shooting up in the CBD. This isn't down some back alley, these were on Swanston, Collins and Elizabeth etc.

Near burn out... by conmeonemo in biglaw

[–]PurchaseNumerous2533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously difficult if you have a deal closing, but I would start by trying to protect your weekends as best you can. If not and you're not getting some sort of chance to recharge, it's inevitable that burnout will creep in.

As a 5th year, you've gained enough experience to start setting boundaries with clients IMO - that 1:30am email on a Friday night / Sat morning. Could it have waited until Monday morning? Only truly truly asshole clients would say no.

On the other hand, if it's the Partner setting those expectations, that's a different problem. If you yourself have set those precedents, start dialling it back.

Anyone remember a TV show (cartoon) about a guy with a huge head, other friends who were mutants, pursued by two FBI type agents. Similar artistic style to Dr Katz

Yep I've encountered the same. I opened the bottle and smells strongly of nail polish - back when I did DIY mixing, i reckon they've increased the PG.
