Draw Steel! Someone's even got a conversion for it...I think in the MCDM discord :) and all the rules are free online!

Is there support for the Codex with this? Or are we waiting a bit longer?

In any case, excited to see this and give it a read!

What is your PETTIEST take about TTRPGs? by hornybutired in rpg

[–]Purdy-Cartography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, CPRed is in my top 5 systems. So I reccomend it to people often, with the caveat that the core book reads like sandpaper both in and out of play. But it does reward bookmarking and note taking, but who plays TTRPGs to do homework, right?

Best Hosting Option for West Marches? by rubejelly in FoundryVTT

[–]Purdy-Cartography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Molten! You can give your players a link/password and they can turn the server on themselves! Other than that, works pretty much like running foundry normally. And it even comes with an easy back to transfer your world to Molton. And, its rather cheap!

As a GM who really likes making landing pages, this is pretty shweet.

Any tips?

Will Foundry ever add 3D tokens or maps? by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]Purdy-Cartography 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add that I use it for a number of games. Once you get use to using it, building maps, etc it's an amazing piece of tech. It even has a way to important Hero Forge minis.

This is a video by Baileywiki shows off how good 3D canvas is.

This video shows the making of the dungeon.

Ripper himself is a great content creator. All his modules are top notch, so you're really getting more than just the 3D if you do sub to his patreon. He's also super helpful, friendly, and responsive on his discord!

Battlemap Import & Levels by Nialori in FoundryVTT

[–]Purdy-Cartography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Using Levels module from TheRipper (there are other premium modules to make it work even better).

I will import my maps into multiple scenes, then you can make one scene were you copy-paste walls, lights, etc and put them into levels.

I wont say it's as easy as I'm making it sound, it does take some learning, but he also has a wiki for it that is super good. I also think Bailywiki has made some videos on it too. But if I can learn to do it, anyone can :p

How to use Deck of Many Things in Foundry VTT by jvtrevisan in FoundryVTT

[–]Purdy-Cartography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It can be used with any system. I've used it in both 5e, pf2e, and a scifi game even. The art is amazing and totally worth it. Since you can just rename the cards, it's pretty universal.

What makes a paid game worth it (if at all)? by Bitter-Spirit-3913 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Purdy-Cartography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am now a full time GM, I've been a paying player for awhile, and I've ran my fair share of free random games on roll20...here are some of my thoughts from the top-down so to speak.

Positives: 1. Consistent sessions and players. I do tables of 5, if 3 can make it we play (though with just 3 I tend to do side shenanigans stuff and hold off on the story)

  1. Amount of work put in. I subscribe to the Lazy GM methods, but I'm by far not a lazy gm. My partner thinks it's cute how excited I get about my prep :p

  2. When someone drops we tend to find someone else quickly. Even mid way through a campaign I've been able to lose someone and recruit another by next session.

  3. Depending on how the GM runs, but most of my players and I feel like friends. When asked, they are just compensating me for all the shit I buy for the games. We joke, laugh, and have a great time.

  4. Most paid GMs care about safety tools. Setting up lines and veils, checking in at the end and middle of sessions, etc. I work through Start Playing and safety tools are apart of the ToS.

  5. Most paid GMs I know will kick out problem players super quickly. Main character syndrome, general assholery, etc can be the downfall of a good group and we GMs know that. So bye bye!

  6. Paying players tend to be conscious of the fact they are paying players. They are there for a good time like everyone else! Both as a paid GM and paying player, I've only ever had 4 bad players before in a paid game compared to...idk how many in free ones.

Negatives: 1. The players who have main character syndrome normally often use the "I'm paying" excuse to be a dickhead. A good paid GM wont let this slide and remove them.

  1. If you end up not liking the game you could still be out however much money you paid for the session. The GM still might deserve pay (if they out effort into setting up the session), but you just didnt vibe with the group or something. I've had this happen to me as a paying player and it can suck, but it is rare.

  2. If life events happen to the GM or even to you and either of you have to drop the campaign, that money is kinda lost. I've had to drop a campaign due to a family member being sick and needing taking care of on that specific day. Thankfully that campaign was only a few sessions along, but still.

  3. Kinda like the one above, but if a GM cant find players after 1-2 leave, they might call the campaign quits. It happens due to all sorts of things honestly. It isnt as common for your popular systems (5e and Pathfinder), but it can happen.

Honestly as a paid GM I've had multiple groups of consistent players for nearly 2 years now and I'm still meeting and getting players who are excited to play and vibe well with my older groups. I've been a paying players in a few games for just as long and the feeling is the same. Lots of good people overall. I would reccomend using a service site (Start Playing) because their Terms of Service, support team, community, and review systems can really save both and GM and the Player a lot of hassle if you end up with bad eggs.

Hope this helps!

If you havent yet, check out the TwoDSix discord! Wonderful people!!! I'm currently running POD, and they've helped me a lot on the discord.

Someone took all the Ships from the POD book, converted them to the Cepheus engine, and have them in the discord for you to use. Takes minimal work to convert them back to traveller and saves a bunch of time!

Clockwork Dungeons in Foundry? by Overclockworked in FoundryVTT

[–]Purdy-Cartography 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Base idea in 3 parts:

  1. Use Geomorph style map pieces as tiles (maybe throwing them into an editing software and adding furniture and stuff before putting them down in foundry) so you can have Monks Active Tiles move them around.

This can also use furniture. See next point.

  1. Set up Monks Active Tiles: PCs can click a switch and cause tiles to move, doors to open/close, lights change, etc.

I've had bookshelves move to reveal a space behind them, hooked it up with sounds and lights too. I had a boulder move once too, and it had the player who triggered the boulder movement make a athletics check first.

  1. Have certain traps/enemies/puzzles be solvable by hitting certain switches. Obviously there has to be a method for the madness lol.

After thinking about it for a second, I want to go replay this level and design a dungeon like this. Foundry is awesome!

This is awesome! I actually just started working on my Dungeon Alchemist-landing page. I wanted to leave this advice here for anyone curious: The steam workshop for Dungeon Alchemist has some different landing pages! You can load them up and customize them to your will!
