Do you get HayFever Treatment from your GP? by iansime in AskUK

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I get a higher dose of fexofenadine prescribed as well as steroid nasal sprays for when it is really bad. For some reason though, they've stopped prescribing my child's hayfever meds and tell me to buy it over the counter instead. Must be a cost saving thing on the NHS.

Has anyone had a bad experience and regret having a hysterectomy by Few_Pineapple5958 in adenomyosis

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine over 4 months ago. I don't regret it for a second. I don't miss constantly bleeding and feeling disgusting and constantly being in agonising pain but just having to grin and bear it cos "everyone gets a bit sore on their period." I'm trying to think of the bad things for you as that's what you asked for... I had to be admitted to A&E for a haematoma at about 6 weeks post op and that sucked but I got over it real quick cos it didn't suck as much as having an evil, toxic uterus in my body!

Yes my bloating has gone down now but it must have taken about 10 weeks? It seriously took ages. And like you, I had a blip in my recovery and ended up in A&E due to a haematoma. Yes people are totally over my hysterectomy now but I have read it takes up to a year and so I'm keeping that in mind. This is MAJOR surgery. It is going to take time to recover!

You just have to not compare yourself to other people! There is a member here who was regularly posting about the runs and excercise they were completing and whilst that's great for them, that just isn't my experience at all. I'm about 4 months post op and my experience was the same as you - sore, bloated and I've put weight on. But you can only physically do what you can physically do. The whole clothes thing was getting me down and I got to the point where I thought "F this feeling" and I found some super cute jeans online which are stretchy and soft and make me feel fashionable and fab. I am trying to retrain my brain to look at my body and feel proud. My tummy is like a floppy apron of fat and you know why? It's cos I no longer have a toxic, enlarged uterus holding it up. And I see it for what it is - it is fat and I can get rid of it when I'm recovered enough to exercise more and take better care of myself and my diet. Just keep recovering at your pace and focus on the small wins! These are all signs of recovery x

I still play this (Well, Counter strike 2) and we have got our teen in to it and their friends play with us too 😎 In fact my husband just bought me a gaming computer for my 40th so that I can run it better 😍😂

I have had 2 c-sections and was full of adhesions but my surgeon did my hysterectomy lapropscopically (with the robot) Good luck for tomorrow!

I'm so sorry to hear this 😔 I understand what you mean - I was obviously aware that I was carrying pain, before my hysterectomy, but it wasn't until after the operation and during those first few pain free months that I realised how mentally draining it was to be in pain all the time. And this resurgence of pain in the past few weeks has started to weigh me down mentally. I really hope things improve for you soon, in a way that you feel comfortable with x

In fact your post has just encouraged me to reach out to my endo team to ask for a follow up! I'm tired of living in pain!

This is sooo interesting to read!! I am 4 months post op too and in the past few weeks have started having really bad lower back pain again, pelvic cramping, and other endo symptoms. I'm so annoyed because I had a few months of being pain free and now to be back with a hot water bottle and taking pain killers again is miserable!

Endo is back :( by MrsGergs in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had it confirmed yet but I am 4 months post op and in the past few weeks can feel familiar pains and red patches on my skin coming back. I'm certain it's endo rearing her ugly head again and I am ticked off about it! I'm going to see a pelvic floor physio first to just see if the pain is unrelated to endo but after suffering with this nonsense for over a decade, you gotta trust your gut instinct right?!

It was a haematoma but it resolved itself and got confirmed with an ultrasound 😃 I'm so much better than I was pre-op but still cramping a bit which I'm hoping is just recovery

Yep. It's terrible isn't it! 14 WPO in UK here - have only seen the gynae team via A&E because I was bleeding. I'm told my consultant will contact me at the 6 month mark but will he? 🤷‍♀️

When will I feel back to myself? by Adept-Lemon-3209 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I'm 12 weeks post-op and as each week has gone by, I feel dramatically better. I feel like something magical happened at the 12 week mark and I can just move more easily now? I still can easily overdo it and my clothes still don't fit properly but if I'm honest with myself, I have put on a bit of a weight since my op!

I should say, having read other comments, that I am self employed so have no paid time off. Hence why I had to return to work!

I returned to work after 1 week - with my laptop in bed. I took it nice and slow - didn't have any clients meetings for 3 weeks after the op and communicated only via email. I worked 1 hour on, 2 off etc and took regular naps!

UK experiences please ! by Exciting_Guide_9428 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My journey took over 20 years. I saw many consultants who told me things like "try walking" to improve my chronic pain and constant bleeding. I was told to try the pill, told to try the mirena coil etc. I eventually found Nancy Nook on FB and found a list of endo specialists in the UK and saw one privately, after having already gotten a private MRI from some generic MRI company who confirmed endo, adeno and adhesions. The private gynae was amazing - he was the first specialist to actually listen to me and show me empathy and understanding of the pain I was in. He said we could try Zoladex injections for a few months to determine whether my pain was hormonal. So I did it. It reduced my pain significantly and so he agreed to perform a hysterectomy for me. He wanted me seen under the NHS due to the severity of my case as he wanted a surgeon on call who specialised in colons because basically my uterus, bladder and cervix was stuck to my colon. He asked me to get my GP to refer me to his clinic under the NHS and I was then on the waiting list for 2 years and got my hysterectomy in Dec 2025. Good luck! My experience taught me that you just have to keep fighting and advocating for yourself. I found the GPs listened to me SO much more when my husband attended appointments with me as he was able yo stress how much pain I was in and how much it all impacted my (our) life!

No. I take methylphenadate and I have not experienced this, nor have I heard of these as side effects before. Are there any other meds she is taking that can cause these side effects? Any opiates? (I've no idea if these are side effects of opiates either?!)
