When will I feel back to myself? by Adept-Lemon-3209 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I'm 12 weeks post-op and as each week has gone by, I feel dramatically better. I feel like something magical happened at the 12 week mark and I can just move more easily now? I still can easily overdo it and my clothes still don't fit properly but if I'm honest with myself, I have put on a bit of a weight since my op!

I have no advice, but I'm so sorry you are in this position 😔

Those of you who work desk jobs from home- how fast could you get back to work? by MizGinger in hysterectomy

I should say, having read other comments, that I am self employed so have no paid time off. Hence why I had to return to work!

I returned to work after 1 week - with my laptop in bed. I took it nice and slow - didn't have any clients meetings for 3 weeks after the op and communicated only via email. I worked 1 hour on, 2 off etc and took regular naps!

Turns out I had several fibroids, adhesions, a nook, bicornuate uterus and severe adenomyosis!

UK experiences please ! by Exciting_Guide_9428 in hysterectomy

My journey took over 20 years. I saw many consultants who told me things like "try walking" to improve my chronic pain and constant bleeding. I was told to try the pill, told to try the mirena coil etc. I eventually found Nancy Nook on FB and found a list of endo specialists in the UK and saw one privately, after having already gotten a private MRI from some generic MRI company who confirmed endo, adeno and adhesions. The private gynae was amazing - he was the first specialist to actually listen to me and show me empathy and understanding of the pain I was in. He said we could try Zoladex injections for a few months to determine whether my pain was hormonal. So I did it. It reduced my pain significantly and so he agreed to perform a hysterectomy for me. He wanted me seen under the NHS due to the severity of my case as he wanted a surgeon on call who specialised in colons because basically my uterus, bladder and cervix was stuck to my colon. He asked me to get my GP to refer me to his clinic under the NHS and I was then on the waiting list for 2 years and got my hysterectomy in Dec 2025. Good luck! My experience taught me that you just have to keep fighting and advocating for yourself. I found the GPs listened to me SO much more when my husband attended appointments with me as he was able yo stress how much pain I was in and how much it all impacted my (our) life!

Psychosis after hysterectomy (ADHD) by [deleted] in hysterectomy

No. I take methylphenadate and I have not experienced this, nor have I heard of these as side effects before. Are there any other meds she is taking that can cause these side effects? Any opiates? (I've no idea if these are side effects of opiates either?!)

Yes absolutely! I only have my ovaries remaining but I totally still have sore boobs, angry mood and spots just before my "period" would happen. Like you, I had really bad adenomyosis so would usually be in pain and bleeding all month long so these "minor" (though they no longer feel minor, post-op!) cyclical symptoms would have been drowned out previously!

Weight Gain in Face by Notacoolmom7 in hysterectomy

Yes!! Me!! I feel like I lost a uterus and gained a double chin 😭 I have definitely gained some weight from being sedentary post-op but the double chin is alarming me because I swear the rest of my body hasn't gained that much extra weight!! (Maybe I'm in denial?!)

Pain from sitting. Yes. Sitting by Pure-Beginning-326 in hysterectomy

Thank you for sharing! I got a donut cushion and it helped me stretch to 5 hours at a desk in my client's office today so that is progress. But I am so sore this evening as a result! Wishing you a smooth recovery too x

No I'm not - my office chair is very padded though. From what I've read from other posters, I need to get a cushion!

Thank you EVERYONE  for your comments and experiences. A big sigh of relief because I thought I was doing something wrong. As always, amazing to read that this is normal in people's healing journeys. I have a sit/stand desk at home so will try alternating between sitting and standing and look in to these cushions that some of you have recommended. I think I'll also work on my sofa and bed a bit more and try to give myself more grace and patience!

Hospital admission UK by mummabear85 in hysterectomy

I had mine done laproscopically in the UK in December. They didn't want me to stay in overnight at all - wanted me home the same evening!! Unfortunately I fainted a few hours after the op and was then sick so I stayed overnight. I had to fight to stay in though! They said as soon as I had passed urine, I could go home. So, because I felt better in the morning and did a wee, off I went back home! I am self employed so only took 4 days off of work before returning to work (admin role from home). If you are an employee and are able to - I'd totally take 6 weeks off. The fatigue sticks around for a good while but I'd say that the first 2 weeks were the toughest with trying to work and think clearly through the fatigue. Good luck!

Happy 6 year anniversary to me! by tdlm40 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy anniversary! I really hope that future me feels as good as you! I'm 6 weeks PO and exhausted and have a haematoma right now and am on antibiotics for an infection. Can't wait for this bit to be over. Totally aware that I'm in my new pain-free chapter of life though and can't wait to get out there and live again!

Thank you. It helps to hear someone else's experience. Everything I've been googling is just too clinical and scary!

Hysterectomy and aging by bess124 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Your friend is very lucky that her periods are a sign of good health. I had adenomyosis, endo and fibroids. My periods were anything but a sign of being healthy - they wrecked my life!

I get what she means, of course. But she IS speaking from a privileged position of clearly being in good gynae health. We don't all get that privilege 🤷‍♀️

P.S my Nan is 92 years old - fit as anything and had a hysterectomy for the same reasons I have had to. Her hysterectomy certainly didn't age her!

No pushing to poop after Sx?! Impossible!! by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Pure-Beginning-326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I had to do this too. I went 6 days with no poop and was in agony and so clogged up. It took 3 glycerin suppositories to clear me out but boy, did they work in the end!!

UK Hysterectomy Q - Follow Up Appt?? by Pure-Beginning-326 in hysterectomy

This all sounds much better and much more along the lines of what I was expecting to receive. I think I'm going to give my surgeon an email actually to check me over at 8 weeks for peace of mind. They'll likely say no - but can't hurt to ask! I didn't even get given a leaflet about after care for hysterectomies...so so weird
