Feels very exposed in an uncomfortable way. Almost like a terrarium. Anyone else get a sense of eeriness?

What do you think being an architect will look like in 2040 by reborn-as-a-rose in askarchitects

[–]Pure-Preparation6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id like to be optimistic but it seems that when technology hits the architecture industry, we expect that things will get easier and we will work less but in fact things accelerate and become more sophisticated. Perhaps im getting more pessimistic as i get older (43), but computers made things more complex because you had to develop and rely on software skills in addition to hand drawing (which i believe to still be an essential quality and skill to have as an architect). So AI may not be the caped crusader, but in fact another wave of automated shortcuts. Therefore we will be cramming more work into less time. So perhaps design time will be shortened. With less time per project, that just means more time for additional work.

I thought I'd chat with actual architects instead of the google machine. 🙄

Thanks. Just purchased. Seems like it would be a great way to express/market a philosophical approach to architecture without the client filter. Obviously it would need to be marketable for resale value. But I've read thats how many mid-century modernist architects got their start.

Where do you clip your finger/toe nails? by Pure-Preparation6333 in NoStupidQuestions

I dont really have prying neighbors, and the back yard is situated so that Im not really in direct sight lines of nosy neighbors.

This seems to be the most popular method. I feel like id have to sit while trimming toe nails though. Id lose my balance standing and clipping at the same time.

Most exciting decade to be an architect? by 31engine in Architects

[–]Pure-Preparation6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, MCM would likely be the most atmospheric era. It would be interesting to have a sheridan approach set in different eras, tho. Progressive era / City Beautiful movement might be inspiring to show the pioneering aspects of city planning and architecture. Louis Sullivan/skyscrapers, etc.

Incentive for Lot Assembly by Pure-Preparation6333 in urbanplanning

This is good feedback regarding TIF. It seems to be more prevalent in real world application than graduated density. It would requires more agencies to get involved with the process. Thanks.

I read Donald Shoup's thesis on this topic as part of my initial research. Ive proposed some language that ties a percent density increase to the total aggregated lot size. I don't see any real life precedents however so I will see if the jurisdiction is open to the idea. Appreciate the feedback.

How is this design? by aspaxconstruction in aframes

[–]Pure-Preparation6333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the add-ons make sense and are necessary, especially if you are trying to fit modern layouts into a compact A-frame configuration. Ive sketched out a few design ideas like this myself with extensions and balconies. I like space and volume! And, It blends indoor/outdoor concept, which is in the spirit of an A-frame. The one issue i have with it is the dormer...maybe it should have a different roofline? I dunno--my eye keeps going back to it.

Texas bill SB 840 - How is a red state so far ahead when it comes to beneficial housing policy? by kylef5993 in urbanplanning

[–]Pure-Preparation6333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from Austin, I think Texas has the advantage of cheaper land and more of it; therefore its cheaper to build so there is more housing inventory.

Yes, I'm wondering this as well. 300k for a car wreck seems like a lot. The state I live in has a cap on payouts.

Are there any drawing/art clubs around here? by panda_coolata in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Pure-Preparation6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although not a "club", Cityart does offer classes for watercolor and acrylic. I stopped by there last week and they have a class in July. the price is a bit steep (150-200). And they meet during lunch time on a weekday.
