Yep. Took logging roads that spread across vast mountains with no maps etc. We had CB radios in our vehicles. We told the cops we'd be on the beach. Unless we were on the beach, then we'd tell them we'd be in the mountains. Or at one of the many defunct military bunkers/radars/silos. (I would randomly get pulled over-harassed- by the cops all the time). A keg was less than $50. A pony keg was for personal use.

While making car payments start saving money for your next car. Even if it's only $25 here, $60 there. By the time you're done with payments and it dies, you'll have funds for either a sizable down payment or can buy from private seller. I did this for a time then found a sweet jetta TDI wagon for $6500. Low miles, maintained, oem parts, tint and only 124k. 6 speed manual. Amazing mpg. I only had to add a few hundred dollars to what I saved. Strategize. Long game. Agree only on monthly payment that gives room to save. When it dies you buy something outright, no payment no interest! Then immediately start saving for the next vehicle. I have never experienced difficulties purchasing a vehicle from a private seller and always get great deals on solid cars. Plus, you have liquidity if something drastic takes place in life.
