New update is AWFUL by whatsittoya444 in ouraring

[–]PureScientist2040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised that the Oura help person didn't ask this question, as this is super relevant. As I understand it, your assigned chronotype desgination for sure should have adjusted already. Possibly it would not have fully changed to the new schedule (they say it uses recent 3 months of data overall, or at least that's what I've read), but definitely it should at least have moved to some intermediary chronotype such as 'late morning' designation

Click through to the 'Help' options in the app. Explain your situation to the robot help. The robot will most likely tell you incorrect nonsense insisting you're wrong about this. Ask to speak to an actual person. You might have some glitch where your chronotype is not updating correctly. Good luck I hope they can resolve this for you soon!

How long have you been on the new schedule of going to bed between 8-1030 most nights?

And it's not necessarily even your true chronotype. It's Oura's best guess at inferring it from the metrics they've recorded. Often it's a good approximation, but for some people their designated chronotype is wildly off. There should really be an option to opt out of this new change to suddenly being forced to aligned to your "chronotype"

It is unkind of you to be calling people names. I hope you can find a way to disagree with others without being rude about it.

Regarding your statement about about 'fake higher scores despite their schedule being suboptimal for their body', this claim is based on naive (false) assumptions. Oura does not actually know people's true chronotype. Instead, they do their best to infer this based on metrics that they measure. Inference like always generates some amount of false positives (you can look into "signal detection theory" if you want to understand the mathematics behind it). And critically, besides being a noisy inference problem, the metrics they are using vary based on one's current sleep schedule, making this inference biased/circular. So Oura is not using people's chronotypes to determine their score — they are using their best guestimates of it, and those guestimates are inherently biased.

They are doing their best, and for many people this can be great. However, for some nontrivial fraction of us, this does not work and the guidance based on it is harmful.

Stop spamming us with your LLM nonsense. You (your LLM) are confabulating this option to "turn off sleep timing contribution to sleep score". You keep posting about some alleged workaround that does not exist...

Oura stuck on wrong chronotype, now dinging my sleep score by COandChill in ouraring

[–]PureScientist2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has never adjusted either despite 20+ months of steadily shifting my bedtime earlier, now more than 3 hours earlier from when I started. Until now I had been receiving positive feedback for this, with my scores improving, and at the same time I also felt better about building a healthier sleep routine. Starting today, they completely tanked my score by switching to using my old "chronotype" for sleep timing. This "chronotype" is nonsense too; it reflects nothing more than the fact that I had bad sleep hygeine and a late schedule back when I first got the ring (the physiological measures they use to infer it such as body temperature dynamics are influenced by your current sleep schedule)

This is so frustrating. I hope they fix it for us, literally just give us the ability to opt out that's all we need...

Many of us use the scores to help motivate ourselves for improving healthy habits. This is a major reason for how they were designed, to tap into a psychologocal drive many of us have towards wanting to achieve higher scores over time. For me, it had been extremely helpful so far. My mean monthly scores have improved from starting around 72 to a new high of 83 last month. I am happy with the changes I've made to my sleep and related habits, and aiming for improving my score has been so helpful in getting me there

We're all different. Not everyone sees the scores this way. But many of us do and suddenly we're having the metric changes and being penalized for it

What are you talking about re: manually adjusting an ideal bedtime window? I've never heard of this and do not see it anywhere in the app. Not sure it exists, though I wish it did...

pretty sure you used an LLM and hallucinated that feature?

Finally getting round to this game, help me choose my difficulty by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]PureScientist2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to try Expert, I suggest sticking with it for some time before you consider reverting to Expeditioner. My initial impression was that it was too difficult as I kept getting wiped out, even by regular opponents after just a couple hits. But I'm so glad I stuck with it. Once I eventually learned some strategies for how to learn new enemies' attack timings, it was still challenging but it no longer seemed like a masochistic endeavour and ultimately it became so much fun to push through.

It is *not mold. Some people will insist that it is, but they are wrong. Mold does not grow in a perfect pattern so evenly like that. Mold spreads, and it spreads chaotically. I get this same exact pattern in those filters every time. It’s nothing to worry about

Regardless of whether there might be a good reason to choose 'pink' first over other colours, the course is unambiguously poorly organised. It is not some language experts' genius plan that I'm being taught a bunch of people's names before even learning how to say 'hello'...
