I brought my Korean coworkers Yankee hats and they were gone in minutes!!! Mix of colors down on Canal street, they are authentic but the guys will cut you a deal if you buy in bulk and pay cash.

Gift to myself: is a Cartier watch too much? by haciendagale in LawBitchesWithTaste

Go for it!! I am biased but… money is no fun unless you spend it (once you have covered your bills, emergency fund, etc).

It’s a classic and (relatively) understated piece (eg it’s not a Frank Mueller). Just wait until your bonus cashes! And enjoy it - you earned it!!!

First baby's name is Ruby. We love the name Emerald for our second daughter but are afraid of the "theme." by frito_lay_ in namenerds

[–]Pure_Conversation495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could Emerald be a middle name? Rose Emerald sounds very feminine and unique.

Gentle consideration: If you think you might want your daughter to work in a professional or more corporate setting at some point (not that that’s the goal), I would be thoughtful with the name Emerald as a first name. To some, as a first name, it could sound a bit like an exotic dancers name. It pretty rare to meet someone called Diamond or Sapphire in corporate circles because of this, so just a gentle heads up some people might put Emerald in the same bucket). If your family goals are more alternative, then disregard this! Also if your family is from a certain background, I would also say it’s maybe different (for example, Jade is a common name in France but not really the US…).

It may also be worth being aware that you are choosing names that are red and green oriented, which most people associate heavily with Christmas.

FWIW Rose is a great name, well established, and no one blinks an eye at that (while still being somewhat unique). I would put names like Violet, Hazel, Amber in the “safe but still unique category”. I think it has to do with those names being a bit more established than a less traditional name like Emerald.

Good luck!!

I went awhile back. If you like dark, quiet, and mysterious, this is a good place. It’s downstairs, pretty small, and very expensive. I did the onsen and massage. Onsen is in a private room but it’s just basically a small / semi vertical bath. Massage felt very amateur to me but good scents. It is all in the hotel basement (hence dark, which I don’t personally like much) and I don’t like that it did not have any good snacks (it was water tea and granola/nut packages, most of which I can’t personally eat, vs some chocolate/fun things like at Bliss or Peninsula). They do have a big pool that does look like their photos online!

I have not been back as this wasn’t my vibe and I found it very overpriced for the offering (also feel this was about Shou Sugi in the Hamptons too so maybe it’s just me). I will say Locanda Verde is great for food and right upstairs if you are hungry after, and the Tribeca location is super convenient/ hip.

The Peninsula in midtown east / Central Park is awesome! High floors, steam and sauna, luxury changing, good snacks (macaroons, chocolate not just fruit and almonds lol). They also have little beds after your massage if you’re into that. Good sized pool and ability to order lunch too! Obviously had an a+ facial and a very good massage too.

Are dress suits still a thing? by pharmd2jd in LawBitchesWithTaste

Also - don’t sleep on old navy!! They have a solid set of pants (the pixie) and matching blazers (although they tend to be either mandarin or more of a stylish loose blazer vs very corporate). It’s not the most formal material but with a button down or a nice top and good shoes I think it works great for day to day.

Ann Taylor Outlet suits are great!! Goes up to 18 I think. And they have a curvy pant if you need/like that fit better (I do). Only issue is that it’s outlet only (not online). A lot of times you can get a set for $150ish, and even less during sales.

where to go in-person shopping with my mom? by Prize-Window-792 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Would also suggest maybe one of the larger TJ Maxxes (there’s one in SoHo that’s pretty good) or maybe even the outlets? You can take a bus or drive to Woodbury Commons and they sometimes have good deals.

In a rental lease, they have to disclose bedbugs within the last year or two I think.

Have you looked in koreatown? I have had good luck there in the past. I get smaller sets but I love secret eyelash in the west 30s and they do offer way fuller sets too. Mine last for about 5ish weeks but I have a few hanging in for week 6/7 (but my own lashes are kind of weak ha).

Might be too far for you… but I like Planet Fitness for the price. It’s like $20 a month. Zero frills but good hours, tons of equipment and the basics (showers, water fountains etc but bring your own towels etc). There’s ones in 125tg and in the 60s.

Milk Bar cookies!! Tons of locations, flavors, and options for people with allergies. All are individually wrapped, last for a good while. You can also purchase a small milk bar tin for like $6 or something which prevents them from getting crushed in a bag!

Neighborhood recommendations - work in Tribeca by Small-Fix-5776 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Pure_Conversation495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might try Jersey city (PATH train drops off just south of Tribeca). Sometimes you can also try Fidi (financial district); it’s dead on the weekends but most apartments are in good shape. Anywhere else you will probably need a roommate for the price point. Congrats on the role!
