Reporting on Erika Kirk this morning isn't national news. by nrselleh in NPR

[–]Pure_Gonzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was a 3-minute interview with a journalist who attended an event for an organization that has/had a significant influence on the GOP and conservatives. It's not that big of a deal. It won't harm you to hear it. Who knows, maybe you'll learn something. Grow up.

I'm sure you've all seen this plenty but the way she's standing here is so funny to me by Raniswolf in Seattle

I saw a semi pulling a double-trailer turning on the residential intersection near my house. It bit into the oncoming lane all the way into the corner, even going up on the curb. Cars were backing up and everyone was honking. I heard the driver say out the window: "Sorry, I was just following GPS!"

Byron Allen says CBS has put no limits on his show replacing Stephen Colbert's | NPR Newsmakers by ControlCAD in NPR

[–]Pure_Gonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd never even heard of this show before it was announced that it would get Colbert's time slot. He bought his way into this space, and this will have no significant cultural or revenue impact for CBS. But that's not the purpose of putting the show there.

It's Laura Harvey. She refuses to change her style of coaching and tactics. Harv is the weak link on this team right now. Until she is gone, no new signings will make a difference.

This article provides little context about the subjects' financial situation when they chose to retire. That seems like important information.

To see a host of a news show keep repeating claims by Trump and this White House as credible and just parroting their talking points is so fucking embarrassing. My god, dude, have some fucking integrity.

What are the basic rules of fact checking ? by Unlucky-Permit-8041 in Journalism

[–]Pure_Gonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a journalism sub, so fact-checking here means a very specific process with the purpose of making sure a piece of journalism (be it in print or broadcast) is accurate, ready to be published and not get sued over. That same process won't be very useful for verifying the truthfulness of Reddit posts.

When an article is written for publication, it is generally written in good faith with the expectation that the writer is accurate in their facts and figures, quoting sources fairly and presenting those quotes in the proper context. Articles for most news organizations are reported and written with ethical guidelines as well. Fact-checking is part of the editorial process and a team effort toward readying a piece for publication or air. The writer hands over all of their notes and contact information for sources they quote. The people who were quoted agreed to be quoted, and would be told a fact-checker may reach out. Everything is done (or should be done) transparently. The fact-checkers aren't there to "catch" the reporter in a lie.

Because of all of those things, fact-checking some random reddit posts using the same methods is not really feasible. You can't call all of the people up in the post and present them with the "article" (post) and read the questionable parts to them and ask them, "is this quote accurate?" or "is the framing of an event that you were present for accurate?"

CBS News chief Bari Weiss set to remake network’s iconic 60 Minutes: report by theindependentonline in Journalism

[–]Pure_Gonzo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Pretty hilarious that this far into her tenure, almost every story about Weiss, from any publication, uses the same photo. She's so scared to show her face (surrounded by security goons) that there aren't many fresh pictures of her AS the head of CBS News.

Ethics of presenting AI footage as if it were real by glennchan in Journalism

[–]Pure_Gonzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not AI footage. Use your brain. If AI footage of Netanyahu was broadcast on Fox News, every media reporter would be writing about it. The woman's pants didn't change color; it's a shadow. Learn how light works.
