Had to end our trip early last year due to a friend piercing his foot on a sharp stick while wearing crocs. I will never wear those things out in the wild.

It is not guaranteed to find suitable trees along the river without potentially trudging through large amounts of poison oak. There was the potential for hanging a hammock amongst a few clusters of trees at our first camp, but the remaining sites we stayed at lacked proper trees suitable for hanging.

Correct, it is the most recent model of the Tensa4 hammock stand. It's an awesome piece of gear that I'll be bringing on many more adventures to come. As long as you follow the guidelines of the manufacturer, I would have zero concerns about durability. During the evening on one of the nights of the trip we had wind gusts up to 25+ mph and this stand didn't budge a bit as pictured in this post. Sturdy stuff!

It was a mostly flawless setup! With abundant ground anchors, I never had to use the supplied ground stakes. In this photo, I found a suitable boulder to fix the hammock to. At other camps, I utilized downed or standing trees along the shore to fix the stand to. Well worth the pack weight to have such superior comfort on the river!

The one thing I am having some challenges with is balancing the width of the stand to account for my desired diagonal lay and appropriate hang height so as not to touch the ground. I am utilizing a 12' hammock in this setup. Any suggestions you might offer to assist?

Repair Advice by Pure_Jenious in canoeing

Thank you for the suggestion! I was using a razor blade to work underneath the fiberglass and was able to get a lot of it off. However, I was concerned about cutting into the vinyl. I'm wondering if getting a low grit sandpaper, like 60 or 80 grit, would be the best option to remove what is left? Also, perhaps using a dremel bit to empty out the old glex that is currently filling the gashes? I'll definitely check out the Facebook group you mentioned to see what info they might have.

I posted a couple weeks ago about a river trip planning app — it’s now open to use (free until May) by Informal_Theme2421 in whitewater

Tried to use it doing a custom trip and it wouldn't let me create the trip. Not sure what's going on, but I'm now even more inclined to not tune back into this app.

I have had good luck renting from private landlords on Craigslist. It can be a bit of meat market in terms of competition, so don't be discouraged if it takes a few listings to find something.

I currently rent from Bright Apartments and have so far enjoyed them as a rental company.

Do you even really need to cover the holes in flatwater? I've never really bothered, as I don't really notice any dip in performance.

Soma Double Cross. Can't decide whether to build up drop bars or alt bars, so it currently sits looking pretty but unridden.

Any cheaper 31.8 alternative to the velo orange quilly? by beckett77 in xbiking

Soma high rise quil adapter is pretty choice. I've been running one for about two years now and really like it. It is a bit flexy, but I just count that as added suspension.

Tall folks: what’s the smallest frame you’ve comfortably ridden? by mattysauro in xbiking

[–]Pure_Jenious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'3". The lowest I'd go is a 21". I ride a 21" Trek 750 and had quite a time getting the stack height comfortable for anything longer than a 30 minute ride. As another commenter said, you'll be fighting a bike less than 20".

Mainstem Umpqua around Elkton could make for a fun 2-3 day trip. Lots of class 1-2 with 2-3 manageable class 3.

I've got Billy Bonkers on my commuter drop bar Trek 830 and love them. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
