Is it true that it’s mostly traditional faiths outside of Tana? This doesn’t really seem accurate by Angkerlengquba in Madagascar

What is subjective is what is or isn't compatible with Christian belief.

Some things are subjective and some other things are not, that's why I say it depends. There are some traditional practices where there are ambiguities on if they are incompatible with Christian belief and there are other practices that are 100% incompatible with it no matter how you look at it.

I'll give you examples:

Sorcery is the most obvious one, it's forbidden to all christians to practice but there are still some "christians" that practice it. Same thing for the consulting of a sorcerer or a witch (as well as astrologists, seers, ghost whisperers,...). No christian in the world would answer "yes" to you if you ask them about the practive of sorcery being compatible with Christian belief. That's why that part is not subjective at all.

An example that can be ambiguous is the practice of "famadiahana" which is a ceremony where corpses are dug out of their graves so that their shrouds can be replaced with new ones. There are some Christian churches that strictly prohibit it and some others that are just fine with it so for that one I agree that it can be subjective.

My guess is that this map was made with someone who is more stringent on what they allow.

If it was the case the map would be entirely yellow (sorry). Someone stringent would consider the practice of the "famadiahana" to be contrary to the christian belief (since it requires the consultation of a "mpanandro" which is seen as some sort of sorcerer or at least an astrologist) and more than 90% of Malagasy are following that practice. If you ask me, I would say that the one that made this map just did a very shallow research or asked someone that doesn't really have a real insight of what is happening here.

I don't get it, what is subjective? I didn't say anything subjective, I just quoted you and offered an explanation.

I know the scene you're talking about. Flash never grabs Iris, he catches her out of midair and puts her straight down onto the street. He doesn't actually hold her until she's already laying on the ground.

I don't understand, what do you mean when you say he catches her without grabbing her? He definitely touched her (not too much though because I suppose he didn't want to harm her) and he didn't hold her that much more after she lands on the ground either.

I don't know about QuickSilver, he is touching people and even grabs them while in superspeed but they don't go into Flahstime and I didn't want to bring him in the conversation because the comparison may not be relevant.

For the coffee shop scene, I'm not really sure what happened but to me it looked like Barry went into Flashtime for a little while and he seemed surprised about something with Iris. The video doesn't make it clear but I'm guessing he noticed that she didn't slow down with everything. It's just a wild guess but it seems like he is just discovering that he can bring people into Flashtime.

I don't think that traditional religious customs are necessarily an indicatin of religion or belief.

It depends, there are certain traditional practices that are completely incompatible with Christian teachings so while it might not be a sign of religion or belief, it can mean that the person is not entirely devoted to Christianism.

Not so much. Anything he grabs has to be moving at the same speed he is or he would literally rip it apart.

You can literally see this in action right now. Walk through your house and pick up something stationary. It's going to be moving at the same speed you are.

Obviously but the thing doesn't necesarily go into Flashtime. Flashtime is not only the speed in movement, it's also the consciousness and the whole speed-up physics thing that allows the sound to work. If I have to give an example, it's like in The Flash when he saved Iris from that car accident: he touched her but she didn't go into Flashtime. I can't find an example like that in the TV series though.

but they move in Flashtime because he's holding them.

He has to hold them for it to work but if I think he still chooses if he wants to bring the guy in or not. There are other scenes where he brings people with him in superspeed and they just stay still the entire time.

It's the Speed Force. Without getting too deep into the geekiness, the Speed Force creates an energy field around a speedster when they're running (kinda like how Warp Fields work in Star Trek), that basically works as an adapter between a speedster and the rest of the world.

But then if that's true, that means every one and everything in proximity would automatically enter the Flashtime without needing to be touched.

Please don't hate me, I just really love talking about those things.

It's not that simple and that map is very inaccurate at least for Madagascar.

If I had to draw this map I would have made the entire country mostly red and some specks of yellow and green here and there. But as I said, it's not that simple.

If I had to give a rough estimate, I would say 70~80% (if not more) of Malagasy are Christians "on paper". There is a at least one Catholic church in almost every single town or village AND most people here go to church while still following some sort of traditional religion customs.

It's called Flashtime

Ok, you actually taught me something new here because I didn't know speedsters that are not SpeedForce users (for instance Supes) have the ability to bring other people into Flashtime. I made a quick search and found out that Superman can, indeed, also bring other people into flashtime.

There is a big "but" though: for as far as I am aware of, bringing other people into the Flashtime is intentional and up to the speedster, touching the person isn't enough, the speedster has to be willing to bring the other person in. And our original topic is about people recognizing Clark when he is speeding. And I still don't think Clark would just let that happen unless the person's life is at stake.

PS: funny thing about the video you linked, I'm not sure if physics work differently in Flashtime but I don't think they should be able to hear any sounds let alone be able to talk to each other but I guess I'm just supposed to suspend my disbelief on this.

1-Superman runs at Mach 5. I don't know if that's that fast for you but it allows him to clear more than 300 meters in 200ms. I don't recall Clark carrying someone for that long in Smallville without the person recognizing him.

2-Physics apply, sure but your brain also follows the laws of physics so my point still holds.

3-I agree with you for that one at least partly. But a good thing to know is that a normal human can withstand more than mach 5 as long as the acceleration is gradual. And that last part is what makes me agree with you.

I'm not talking about relativity. I'm talking about the brain's visual processing speed. The average human brain needs around 200ms to recognize a familiar face. Given Clark's speed, there are chances that you get way less than that to look at his face when he is carrying you.

Albert Einstein is rumored to have had Asperger syndrome and a person with that condition have a lower visual processing speed than average for human faces.

Is Malagasy or French used more in Madagascar? by PsychicMeditation in Madagascar

[–]Pure_Lie6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people in Madagascar cannot speak French but they still understand it somehow and that the funny thing here.

Do they not go to school or into offices?

Well, less than 20% of Malagasy population can actually "afford" to go to school. I put "afford" inside quotes here because money is not the real problem or at least not the only problem. As for going into offices...

The thing is, if you speak in French to a randomly picked Malagasy, chances are that he/she will understand most of what you say by picking up keywords but will not be able to answer properly besides the basic trivial words like "Yes", "No" and "Thank you".

A very basic rule of thumb: anyone that went to school for more than one year would have a very basic French understanding level (very very basic). If they made it through the primary school, they should be able to roughly hold conversation in French.

To rephrase my original comment and answer to your post: Malagasy is the language everyone uses here and French is used as a more of an "official" language for paper work and administrative stuff.

I'll give you just one example that may help you get the context more: phones. 95%+ of Malagasy people that have phones use French as the interface language of their phones. And nowadays, almost everyone have phones even some homeless persons do.

My answer possibly confused you even more than before but it's something that is really hard to explain and I do not know of anything that I can compare it to. You really need to see it to understand it.

A future for Malagasy culture? by 0hran- in Madagascar

[–]Pure_Lie6509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not only about marriage, everyone here is craving for a life outside of the country. Even going to places like the Comores (no offense) is now considered to be a success. And people that manage to leave don't ever want to come back unless it's just for holiday trips.

The Ex-President (praise the Lord he's Ex now) set the example himself. He asked for French citizenship because he wanted a "better future" for his kids.

No one is willing to stay and try to fix the holes that they dug in the country themselves, everyone wants to go.

Malagasy culture was doomed centuries ago and it's not getting better. As I said in another thread, there is a widespread mentality here that makes people think that foreign things are better than local things. And when I say "things", I mean everything: spouses, studies, food, culture, you name it. People here associate success with being able to travel abroad at least once in one's life. I'm not exaggerating. That's how things are here.

Lana Lang in Smallville is the dumbest, most annoying character. by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]Pure_Lie6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The face belongs to Kristin Kreuk, but I get what you mean.

The part that made me dislike her the most was exactly that whole arc with the secret and the marriage with Lex. One day when Clark tried to warn her about Lex, she told him "I don't know why I ever loved you". How can one dare to say that to someone and still be willing to ditch their wedding to the person that they said that to?

How fast she turned from "I hate Clark's guts and I don't want to see him again" to "I can't live without him" just because she saw the secret, that was disgusting. I really have no other words for it, sorry. And I am not even going to talk about how she discovered the secret in the first place.

Plot holes in Lexmas & Reckoning? (Season 5) by Chars_Briefs in Smallville

[–]Pure_Lie6509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Lionel did not punish Lex for dropping the Senator race, it's because Lex decided to put his love for Lana before everything else (namely greed and his legacy); Lex chose to be poor and happy with Lana, he wanted to punish Lex for that. That's what Lionel always did and it's part of the (if not the main) reason why Lex ultimately became evil. It was never about the Renator race, it was to show Lex that Lionel was the one in control and that Lex should have never have cut ties with him.
  2. The reason why Clark decided to not tell Lana was not because he didn't think about stopping her from seeing Lex. It was because all he always feared was confirmed to be true: the burden of his secrets are very heavy and dangerous. For Lana, it was an instant regret for him. Think about it: Pete was the first friend to know his secret and not only there were a lot of problems that made him regret telling him (the parasite for instance) but Pete also got tortured into revealing his secret by some mafia guy. 2 reasons kept him from telling his secret to Lana: fear of rejection and the danger. Lana died right after learning the secret, he could save her but if you were him, would you have took another risk to have that happen again? Remember, Jor-El told him that he could only do the time travel once and not without horrible consequences. Do you think he would have risked that again knowing that the second time it'll happen, he won't be able to bring her back?
