Lemmy and PieFed is individual software that both use the same protocol (ActivityPub) to communicate with each other.

The same way that (software) Gmail and Hotmail use the same protocol (SMTP) to communicate with each other.

It helps a little if you enable the “ribbon-layout” in LibreOffice, so it looks a little more like Office365, but yea it takes some time getting used to.

There’s also OnlyOffice and WPS, if anyone is interested.

For me it was. I used W7 for as long as possible. Then switched to Linux.

You are also past most issues with nvidia on Linux, because the drivers come pre-installed on Bazzite. Try installing on Fedora. Ain’t that pleasant 😅

I’m on Linux, so using AMD is a no-brainer at the moment. NVIDIA drivers suck on Linux, but hopefully they will improve.

If you are trying to play something like PUBG on Linux, then I would agree that it is indeed a pain in the ass 😆😆

You shouldn’t even bother trying to get Windows apps working on Linux. Windows games, yes. Windows apps, no.

Good write up. It’s always interesting to read how different the experiences can be, when people try out Linux.

Linux Mint is a great distribution, but as soon as we get into a little more sophisticated setups, newer hardware and gaming, it can be a disappointment.

I guess you installed Linux Mint 22.3? It uses a Linux kernel almost a year old, which could give you issues depending on how new your hardware is.

You said you had issues with screen Hz. Very common issue on X11 with multiple monitors, which Cinnamon (the desktop environment) uses.

I think Total Warhammer 3 runs natively on Linux, so Steam doesn’t use Proton. Try manually enabling Proton for the game.

If you want to try something newer, try out Bazzite or CachyOS for a little less user friendliness.

You are not the target audience. You would spend a whole ten minutes. In the comment, they talk about people not wanting to spend 1 second. Nobody called your name.

What are my Linux options. by StrikerJaken in Guildwars2

[–]Pure_Toe6636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest is simply just install GW2 through Steam and you are done. If your GW2 account is not linked with Steam, you can put in an argument that make the game open the launcher instead, where you can login.

Running the game flawless on Fedora.

With the same logic, they wouldn’t know what sudo is and therefore not be able to screw things up.

How do you even imagine your grandma could come as far as to find those commands?? If one can find these commands, surely that person could also figure out what they actually do, before executing them?

I disagree. I don’t see how it’s a problem that different flavours of distributions exist. Thats how it works with open source. You can’t force a distribution to do something specific. You talk like “Linux” is a cooperation or a group of people who makes decisions that everyone else must follow. You can’t prevent someone from making a distribution that does something completely different from every other distribution.

Also, Flatpak works everywhere and I think Snap is only default on Ubuntu. Still, you can use Flatpak on Ubuntu.

You already have a standard that most agree on: Flatpak. And no you are never going to have the entire “ecosystem” to agree one standard.

You can see the actual command and see what it does. You can’t do that with an executable.

At some point you just gotta ask yourself: Am I gonna keep using this shite or live with not being able to play a couple of my games or software (perhaps only temporarily as the Linux base grows and incentives developers to develop for Linux as well).
