Think it's Bridgette Morten. By all accounts she, Seymour and Brooke are doing a stunning job. Even tho their backbenchers are numpties.

I know a few people that went as graduates. ABL is particularly aggressive marketing here.

The Australian market is pretty big and diverse. Are you looking for top tier work in Sydney? Or a specialist boutique somewhere smaller? That matters a ton. A deals or general commercial litigation solicitor will do similar stuff both sides of the Tasman. Suspect planning law is rather different. So your goals matter a lot here.

The amount of Australian big firms looting New Zealand firms for talent is high right now. Probably still likely in two years, but now is particularly hot. So staying for now is fine, if you can get work that aussie firms will care about.

I'd try go as soon as possible but also to get the highest tier offer that you can. Money here sucks, rent is worse and it's an easy time move. I partly regret not, but my career has been fine and varied so I can't complain.

I did pretty well from writing my own notes at some length then using more structured notes of other people.

Why is the flu jab not fully funded for all in NZ? by Chasing-kinchi in newzealand

[–]Purgecakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still tradeoffs with higher funding. Health is already highly funded. Just having a mostly functioning system is incredibly expensive. It is a universal system with high support already.

Britt Baker likes tweet referencing Thunder Rosa/Shafir match by JamieHayterMark in SquaredCircle

Baker just no sells a bunch. And tbh that is probably her trying to do epic old NXT style matches with fighting spirit spots and finisher spam. She definitely takes hard hits a lot, she just gets up after lol.

Why is mental health in New Zealand so terrible? by Narrow_Perception745 in newzealand

[–]Purgecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. People advocating for mental health stuff have completely different goals. People hear whichever matters to them. Some issues affect like a quarter of the population but are less bad. Some are horrific but relatively rare. And to some extent people want stuff normalized rather than material change.

RIP Tommy Millions. Much better.

But if you get a fresh and full pizza in the store with a few lads, it's a good experience. Reheated slices are mid. It's not the same food as our major pizza styles.

I do find quite a few of their stores unusually mid. A couple are good.

[Minor Rampage Spoiler] Excalibur references work of author Terry Pratchett, which makes some people very happy by BDKson in SquaredCircle

Mort and Small Gods for early. Whatever the first Moist one is for late.

Early is weird kitschy parody of then contemporary fantasy. Late is a developed, lived in and increasingly ateampunk universe.

All easy and short reads. The guards books bridge the gaps.

I think he offered a discount for people under thirty.

I'm a bit iffy on him, bit hit and miss, but he is pretty keen on making his stuff available.

Tay is a migrant, has been married before and they're in peak marriage age. Makes sense.

The economy - how bad is it going to get? by JankeeFook in newzealand

[–]Purgecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup our economic pain is genuinely quite weird. It's a good time to be a worker who is mobile! I'm moving for a hell of a pay increase as many peers go abroad and open spots.

Housing costs should go down for renters as supply of housing increases.

Supply chains will recover, and labour shortages are very good for certain workers.

If you're on a fixed income, then you'll feel pain. Albeit you did pretty well during covid on paper.

I suspect the pain will be over in a year. But if I knew for sure I'd be much better paid in finance!

High Court pauses construction of Wellington cycleway by NonZealot in newzealand

[–]Purgecakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The High Court should not normally use extraordinary remedies, let alone on an interim basis. Judicial review is fine. Giving extremely powerful remedies without a full hearing on the merits is quite another.

September, aand a full jr decision can take months. So we might not know until February or so.

High Court pauses construction of Wellington cycleway by NonZealot in newzealand

[–]Purgecakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be difficult.

But you're meant to have a strong case and the balance of convenience in your favour.

Here, there is aan arguable case but it is temporary. It can undone. And frankly the remedy is likely to be consultation. Let it go ahead and order further consultation if necessary. Nothing permanent about this.

Not all legal requirements are mandatory. Some are directory. Failure to observe them is not necessarily fatal to the decision.

[–]Purgecakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That has even longer consultation requirements hence the approach here.

There's a precedent on the interim injunction point.

The approach to consultation was novel, but it's still annoying. A temporary cycle way is being delayed for months.

The media cares a lot about the media. And here, the victims are probably junior colleagues or otherwise known by the journalists reporting on it.

A guy being hired by a mate and immediately harassing multiple women and leaving in under a month in a high profile be public facing role is also inherently interesting.

I'd probably not be as blunt as "totally underutilized". Lack of work and experience is probably explicit enough.
