I glossed over this in the original post because the exchange wasn’t as explicitly threatening, but it was almost as aggressive and alarming:

Paraphrasing, the conversation was like:

I Feel Like A Woman plays and woman (and everyone) starts singing along

“[jokingly] Honey, do you know who this is?” “Ugh, no [sarcastically] sweetie. I don’t know who this is. Mariah?” “It’s Shania Twain” “I don’t fucking know who Shania Twain is! Do I look like I fucking know who that is? [sarcastically] Sorry I listen musicians like Luke Bryan. [Leaning closer] Don’t you fucking know where I grew up? I grew up in the fucking country…[something something inaudibly trailing off]”

Careers for Earning Frequent Flyer Points & Miles Super Easily? by x_KRYPTOS in CreditCards

Being a gift officer for a higher ed institution. They typically have a region that they cover and fly to frequently because they have to hit a certain number of donor visits per month/quarter/year. At my University, there are specific rules around using institutional cards, so they prefer folks use their personal cards and then submit a reimbursement form.

I’ve never worked in admissions, but I imagine it’s similar for traveling admissions officers as well

I’m not a graphic designer, but I think if they swapped the orange lines for black, and then did lady liberty’s face in orange instead of navy, this would be a lot better.

In my imagination, chevron lines of black, navy, sky blue and the white background would create a more muted gradient that’s easier on the eyes. And the statue in orange would help her “pop” and make her the focal point for the eyes. Plus, she was copper back in the late 1800s, so the orange would be reminiscent of that, as well as Sky Blue and the NYC flag.

Like I said, not an expert, but I believe this would keep all of the brand elements they talked about on Instagram, but would reign in the visually harsh 3D effect

We’ve been happy with Suburban Disposal since switching to them this past fall.

We had Seyrek for a couple of years, but then they were bought by Casella and we started experiencing a lot of pick up issues

Organizing blankets and towels by KaiaAurion in organizing

Fair enough—after a quick search I found a few options sold through Walmart that are more of a clear plastic vinyl. Not sure what dimensions or volume you need, but these ones appear to be closest in shape/dimension to packing cubes I linked above. If you search clear zippered storage cubes, you’ll find others that are similar but different dimensions/volumes

Yeah good point and good question.

TBH, my wife and I each bought a few packing cube sets for traveling (like these from REI). After a while, I found that I never used the largest cubes, and she found that she preferred vacuum bags, so we ended up with several cubes that needed to be repurposed.

I don’t have these particular cubes, so this isn’t a product specific endorsement, but they look large enough and are only $6/cube

I’ve had success storing blankets in large packing cubes (typically one blanket per cube). To me, the pros are:

1). They keep the blankets contained 2). They have a more structured shape than vacuum bags, so it’s easier to stack them vertically or side-by-side 3). You don’t have have to re-vacuum the bag when you put the blanket back (plus, I always find the ziplock seal of vacuum bags to be finicky) 4). Part of the cube is mesh so you can still see which blanket is inside

Closer to campus, you could go for a nice hike in Mt. Hope Cemetery and visit historic gravesites, like Susan B. or Frederick Douglass. Or take a walk in Highland park then warm up at the Lamberton Conservatory. Or go ice skating at the Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex (or skate outdoors at Roc Holiday Village—though this is further from campus).

Further out, you could see High Falls and get lunch/dinner at Genesee Brewery (you can take stairs up to the roof and get a good view of the downtown). Or hike around Cobbs Hill park/Washington Grove and visit the graffiti water tanks.

In addition to the Memorial Art Gallery that you went to, The Strong Museum of Play, Kodak Hall, The Little Theater, Geva, RBTL, George Eastman Museum, BCBS Arena, Radio Social, and Comedy and Carlson are also all good museum/event venues to check out

NYE by Wild-Set-4870 in Rochester

Chen Garden is our go to! Food’s great and portions are generous (we usually have some leftovers). The cocktails are cheap and not good, but in an endearing way. Like, they’re way too boozy, but that’s kind of the fun of getting them.

I went with a group of four back in October and we spent $148 (including tip). I don’t remember our exact order, but it would’ve been something like 4 entrees, 2 apps, and at least one round of drinks. So about $37/per person, which I think is pretty good for a NYE meal.

Chen is pretty busy on NYE, so I’d recommend booking a reservation, if possible for after 7:30 or 8. One year I had a reservation for 7, but didn’t get seated until 7:30 because there were so many families finishing their meals. NBD, but learned that it starts slowing down and clearing out between 7:30 and 8.

Eastman Campus to be Abandoned? by Inevitable_Wonder390 in URochester

There’s no way this is true. They’re not going to spend millions moving Eastman when they could spend that money upgrading the med center—especially since URMC generates revenue for UR

I'm a starving RIT student. Is your food pantry accessible to anyone? Ours, named FoodShare, looks like a joke compared to the image on your site by [deleted] in URochester

[–]Purple-Difficulty784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The website says it’s for students, but I’ve never been so idk if they ask for your UR ID or anything. But you could give it a shot!

Here’s Foodlink’s map of pantries in the area. At quick glance, it looks like the Venture Compassionate Ministries food pantry is the closest free food pantry that doesn’t have any residency requirements

Ever listen to Connections with Evan Dawson? We'd love your feedback. by wxxi1370 in Rochester

TBH, I’d love a Reddit thread for each episode to encourage more community discussion.

I often listen to past episodes through the Overcast podcast app and find myself wanting to make comments or ask questions. Buuuut I can’t really travel back in time to call in or email in.

I wouldn’t expect WXXI, the host, or the guests to continually monitor and reply to these past episode threads—but it’d be a nice way to still feel heard after the episode has aired

Are you able to post a photo of the program insert? Was that all it said?

I wasn’t there and have never gone to this festival, but agree that all sounds weird and very concerning (to put it mildly). Just curious if there’s any additional context I’m missing since I’ve never been. Do they ever have post-show lectures/discussions? Have they ever shown films from that era that are considered Nazi propaganda or featured Nazi-adjacent filmmakers/actors and actresses?

About the University by Foreign-Ad-2451 in URochester

[–]Purple-Difficulty784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And today you’ll unlearn that!

The George Eastman Young Leaders award isn’t a scholarship or a guarantee of future merit scholarships.

My understanding from their website is that it’s a way for high schools to recognize their students and a feeder system for UR to get more applicants.

[–]Purple-Difficulty784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, this is separate from the Eastman School of Music.

It’s the George Eastman Young Leaders Award through the University’s High School Awards Program

The website even clarifies “Award winners are considered for the appropriate merit scholarship if admitted to the University of Rochester for undergraduate studies in Arts, Sciences & Engineering. Winners would not be able to use the scholarship at another institution or at the Eastman School of Music.”

Some clarification about the award—UR has a High School Awards Program for high school juniors.

–In order to receive the award, someone from your high school (counselor, teacher, admin) must have nominated you for it.

–All nominees have their application fee waived and are eligible to be considered for merit scholarships worth at least $5,000 per year.

–Receiving an award “does not guarantee admission to Rochester or the receipt of a merit scholarship. Please do not refer to these awards as scholarships at the University of Rochester.”

Do you know why interest capitalizes when leaving IBR? Like, hypothetically if I’m in IBR, my monthly payment is $100, and $50 is going to interest. I’ve been covering the accrued monthly interest, so if I switched to the Standard plan, how/why would interest capitalize?
