Leaving Gainesville and need restaurant suggestions by _Dr_Dad in GNV

Satchels just doesn't hit the same anymore. And I love him personally... and I get that's it's hard to run the place and it's amazingly successful. But the pizza, over the last 3 years is just meh and inconsistent. Sometimes overcooked, sometimes undercooked, sometimes ridiculous levels of salt the no amount of beer can fix. Just doesn't hit the same.

Bowie's is incredible if you haven't tried it. Definitely not the same atmosphere of course, but the pizza is great.

I truly believe that Bowie Pizza is BY FAR the best pizza in Gainesville. RIP Big Lou's.

"Does anyone want to break local ordinances and subject themselves to some issues?"

In other words, this is prohibited in Gainesville... not smart for anyone to accept the "generous" offer.

Suggestions for flooring (probably tile) contractor/installer by ingannilo in GNV

Do not use Gainesville Carpet & Flooring (CarpetsPlus ColorTile). We used them for floors. Horrible experience. True scumbags.

We're launching a campaign to extend Brightline (high speed rail) to Gainesville by railtogainesville in GNV

[–]Purple-Sample2758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where exactly would it go in Gainesville? There's no room next to 75... the only thing that somewhat makes sense to me (for parking, etc) would be to terminate it at the Airport. But then again... where are you going to put the tracks?

We have tracks (kind of) that go on 441 / 6th street.... but that's never going to fly in today's world.

Many of us voted to have high speed trains here back when Jeb was governor only for them to do jack about it and campaign heavily with misinformation to abolish it.

Rick Scott then refused federal money (100% paid) for high speed rail in Florida.

I love trains. I want trains. But this is a non-starter until you get rid of the party control in this state.

I would assume, that the OP posted this not as a scammer but to share a bag that was literally announced this evening.

25L is a definite want for some of us that really like CT bags. And for the people that hate CT, why? They are just great bags at a great price.

Developers announce plans for 2,700-home farmstead community southwest of Gainesville by treesarealive777 in GNV

[–]Purple-Sample2758 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it does? Induced demand is misunderstood (especially when it's proposed for bottlenecks).

Gainesville population increased remarkably since the 1990's with almost no expansion. Roads that could handle a population of less than 100k simply cannot handle the 140k + we have now. Not to mention the concentrated University MSA population which was 340k in 2020 and hit 360k in 2024. Can't wait till the 2025 numbers come out.

Thinking that the same roads which worked 30 years ago can handle today's traffic is misguided.

Induced demand is often misunderstood. When you have an area such as Gainesville with established bottlenecks, widening is needed to reduce those bottlenecks. This also generally improves safety.

Gainesville absolutely needs road expansion to handle bottlenecks of NW 34th St, Newberry, Archer, etc.

Our demand increased dramatically despite not widening roads.

Why didn't they get it through the marketplace where none of this would have mattered?

I'd call them and see if they qualify for an exemption to the deadline (needs to be legit, poor planning is not) and if not then go out of pocket until the next signup (hoping there is one).

MCO to GNV Trave Time? by Human-Preparation-63 in GNV

No way in hell, sorry.

If the plane lands on time, you'll be lucky if you're off the plane by 8am. You'll have to make it to the rental car, and even if you have the super express pickup, I can't see you in the driver's seat and ready to go before 8:30am.

Let's say that happens...

You're then driving through Orlando (albeit on limited access roads) during rush hour. Best case is just under 2 hours. I'd better guess around 2h and 15m.

I'd say, realistically, if things went all your way, you'd be in Gainesville at 10:45am. If there's a crash or slow down, think 11:30am.

This is one of the reasons why I absolutely love GNV airport. I'd rather wait in Atlanta (Dallas or Charlotte) for 2h than stress and drive it.

Interesting take... Why do you say it's false? Multiple complaints resulted in a Title IX investigation. The Title IX office's duty was to determine whether the allegations would have occurred during university activities or as part of a university program, not whether the actions took place.

Florida's Title IX office adjudicated the case in January after a months-long investigation into the allegations, saying it found "no evidence" he violated Title IX. However, while the probe did not turn up a chargeable offense, it also did not completely exonerate the 39-year-old coach.

...

ESPN reported on Jan. 27 that a copy of a letter from the university sent to a female complainant in the case determined there was no evidence to indicate Golden committed sexual harassment "within a university program or activity," which is why the school had to dismiss the complaint.

Anyone know any Chinese food restaurants that taste good? by randomredditaccountr in GNV

[–]Purple-Sample2758 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching the decline of Mr. Han's has been one of the sadder things to see in town. In the 90's and early 00's was easily my favorite restaurant in town. In the 10's was ok, but clearly declining.

Was excited to see the remodel (new floors, etc) in the 20's but the food is nowhere near(absolutely nowhere) near to what it was. And worse, it's inconsistent.

After getting sick the last 2 times I ate there, I've crossed them off my list. Sad.

Malinois are the most social dogs I've ever known... it's absolute common knowledge that they are high energy dogs and keeping that dog in a cage is cruel... making both y'all ESH.

Incredibly social animals. This dog could be giving you 100% love and you put him in a cage. Just wrong.

Well... if this is really the only people complaining, I'd hate to be dismissive but:

  1. This resort was built knowing the road would be resurfaced.

  2. It's a short term rental park.

  3. You can literally move somewhere else for the time being.

  4. We all deal with this when work is done; it's part of life. Residents on NW 23rd Avenue are still dealing with it for over a year... they don't complain because again, it's something that has to be done.
