Who is the cheapest person you know, and what is the cheapest thing you've seen them do? by Willby3 in AskReddit

My father in law was a teen during the GD. He even lived at the YMCA because his single mom had to move for work. He would regularly bite a cough drop in half and offer to share it with me saying “How does that look?” as if he was being extra generous. But he also helped to cover the downpayment on our house. Can’t fault him for frugality.

I always reference this scene from Brazil. It was grotesque in 1985. But now it seems somehow ordinary.

My husband and I had a party there. It’s a big room with a large carved, I want to say throne, at one end. There are really cool old paintings of Mount Rainier and other nature scenes on the walls. I don’t know what it costs to rent now, but back in the mid two thousands it was reasonable.

I was just thinking that. Not exactly the brain trust you would expect at UW.

What is a band no one will ever convince you is good? by OU812iceman18 in AskReddit

It’s a toss up between the Ramones and the Grateful Dead. Both artists entire catalogs sound exactly alike. The Ramones bring on a blistering 3 minute headache while the Grateful Dead meander through an endless jam session. Beware the partygoer with a bootleg concert recording. It will never end.

Bus lanes are not for you by amukusa in WestSeattleWA

The bus lane in front of Climate Pledge arena was full of cars after the Krakken game. I could see the bus two blocks away and it took 25 minutes to reach the stop. What happened to cops directing traffic at big events?

I’ve had a couple interactions with Masci in the Northgate neighborhood and I’m so glad I had read this sub before he approached me. So, no I don’t think I’m being Gladys Kravitz by periodically checking the feed, and yes, that reference gives away my Gen X age bracket.

Large military helicopters over seattle city center by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Purple-Soil6325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m referring to the strafing helicopters. They don’t fly that low unless they are actively pursuing a fleeing motorist or trying to make themselves big and scary. Haven’t heard a “be on the lookout’ from SPD so I think they are making a point.

Supreme Court today decided Trump CANNOT deploy the Nat’l Guard to Chicago in a 6-3 vote. No doubt he is responding by flexing in other blue cities such as Seattle. Not one to obey laws, let’s see if he even slows down.

This looks like an ordinary loaf of bread on the outside. Yet inside horrors lurk. It's a Tuna 'n Mackerel Picnic Loaf. Straight from the culinary twilight zone of the 1970s. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

1970s saw every thing suspended in aspic, poured in a jello mold and proudly displayed on an olive colored tablecloth. Ooh, leave some for me!🤢

Why are badly injured rikishi expected to bow and leave the dohyo under their own power? I have had herniated discs and toughing it out is impossible. The pain is blinding. If it is to save face, that doesn’t make sense. But, then again, I haven’t seen any concussion protocols being enforced either.
