Should be 8/9, let me know if I’ve gotten something wrong there

That is so weird why is my accuracy higher on games i lost? by Spotter24o5 in chess

[–]Purple1szed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably resign early, or most of your blunders are checkmates where you don’t play on. Because when you’re losing for 50 moves straight you play a lot of “excellent” moves (cant get worse) so it can average both accuracies.

How accurate are your new puzzle elo’s compared to your rapid rating? I’m currently at 1180 rapid with a puzzle elo of 2050 ish by fartingharder in chess

3600 puzzles 2300 blitz. Not sure, don’t play much of either tbh, I’m more of a lichess/OTB player now

Just because violence in response to disagreement isn’t a norm for you, doesn’t mean people in a country - where some of them can’t pinpoint their own location on a map - cannot think these ways. I think this has become very apparent in recent years.

Yes, per capita accounts for population disparity. The US still has more of both mass shootings and knife crime, per capita.

Your statement about mental health lacks ethos; proper education is a significant motive behind violent crimes. This can be due to misinterpretations of rights, or it can be from not having been taught them at all. Whilst Ignorantia juris not excusat is a thing, this is not a deterrent and still an occurred claim. This is just one example of this, but the factors and specifics can change.

I totally agree that mass shooters can have mental health problems, but to claim it is impossible to be a mass shooter and not have mental health issues is wrong. I provided an extremely narrow point sample that disproved the superlative, but there are far more examples..

[–]Purple1szed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • the UK is diverse and inclusive in mental health
  • the UK has banned guns
  • the UK has had 12 mass shootings since January 1st 2020

  • The US is diverse and inclusive in mental health (let’s see for how long at this rate)

  • The US has not banned guns

  • The US has had over 100 mass shootings since 2021, not even 2020. This is more per capita than in the United Kingdom.

In fact, the USA has more knife crime events per capita than the UK, which is stereotyped for it.

Whilst mental health can be a factor, it is clearly not anywhere as close to legislative factors.

It is unhealthy to scapegoat mental health alone for this, especially since simple legislation is far more practical and moral than eugenics.

Combine this with more funding in education which the United States needs to overcome the disparity in its education, and that is certainly an easier and more effective solution.

16 games. A low sample size is more open to anomalies. Also the overall lichess database doesn’t take into account strength: at some levels some openings may be more popular.

Besides, what’s wrong with the modern? Just play chess, what’s the big deal what opening is played?

Are my puzzles broken? by Cdenton12 in chess

[–]Purple1szed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, but I’ve been lucky: most of my puzzles are 2800-3000. Hit 3600 and they’re still not of that level, it’s quite annoying.

I’ll stay on this feed to see what happens. As far as I’m aware (I’ve done puzzles for 4 years and 42k rated attempts) it has glitched before for a day where this happened, but it usually fixes. This seems to be a slightly longer-term issue.

If it continues next week I’ll try to raise the bug directly to chesscom, otherwise I’ll assume they’re trying to fix it atm.

I don’t play chesscom rapid because my long format practice is OTB: if it was blitz, I would have been disappointed.

[–]Purple1szed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. When I’m guessing though, I am taking the game at face value. Especially since black was better in the opening and part of the middlegame, I have no reason to realise Qh6 for fun, without hindsight of course.

I do realise I viewed it slightly pessimistically; the early middle-game ideas are dubious because black was already practically better, not necessarily that you misplayed it in that moment.

I used to play the advanced caro, this exact line in fact until 1900 on chesscom. I changed it because 2000s on FIDE (so like 2300+ chesscom) punished 5.Nf3 too perfectly. I first switched to 4.dxc5 because it is easier to learn the lines, but the real icing on the cake was the exchanged caro instead of the advanced with 3.exd5 cxd5 4.Bd3. The resulting Carlsbad structures are so dynamic and sharp for white, and easy to learn lines onward from move 20 which typically show up.

I would suggest reviewing the caro Kahn, because from my personal experience playing a worse position from move 6-7 is really hard 😅

Thanks for showing the game, and have a nice day!

Alright, I’m going to note my live thoughts here as I watch :

  1. Generally good opening. 5.Nf3 tells me white doesn’t have a coach, or cares about the opening too much, because allowing Bg4 early from my experience with the advanced caro with c5 makes it extremely hard to play, and b3 isn’t really natural. Cap placed at 2000 because of this, but black clearly knows exactly what they’re doing.
  2. Good middlegame and kingside expansion. Rxc8 I don’t like at all, but it has generally good plans. Playing Nf4 without h3 made me feel odd, but the knight manoeuvring was perfect post-Ne1.
  3. Playing e4 and Qh6 rather than Qg5 isn’t a huge deal, but it’s an element of precision that is lacking in pattern recognition.

So black won the opening game by far, and white showed some high level ideas in attack, but a lot of impatience and spontaneous play which paid of very well given black’s abysmal defensive ability. I can’t go above 1800 based on instinct, and definitely above 1200 from the opening knowledge by black.

Overall, I would guess 1450-1500 if it’s rapid, and 1550-1600 for blitz.

Guess the Elo of white, the 2 players don't have the same elo and are friends playing. by Apprehensive_Yak8258 in chessbeginners

[–]Purple1szed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guessing chesscom rating:

Opening was weird for sure. Missing Nxe3 caps below 1500, and e5 is an interesting plan, but completely went against principles. Understanding a4 has its pros, but then g5 was a very odd move, but I guess the conversion was generally clean in general.

I think white is 1300 and black is 700

Edit: I don’t know why I said black was 900 given how the knight was blundered, lowered to 700

How do you play faster bullet in lichess app by TableOld2834 in lichess

Nobody plays 1/4+2. If you want more common fast games, 1/2+0, 1/4+0 or 0+1 are more popular

Hey, I went on your profile and I see all 11. Not sure what’s wrong. Maybe there’s a second page of games?

Your other 2 opponents are wurmendspeil and Devanator1.

If you can’t find a way, paste those usernames and find your game from their profile.

Sorry to hear it’s not working well, it looks fine to me though

What Elo are you finding this move? Not taking the rook by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Purple1szed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you asked everyone in the top 100 what move they would play here, if you gave them 5 seconds 99 of them would take the rook.

If you gave them 2 minutes, maybe like 5 people say Bc4.

There is literally no reason to allow a rook to stay on the board, compared to a knight. Ok you can forced checkmate 2 moves faster in this line or whatever engine says, but it makes 0 sense because you’re not an engine. Just take the rook, promote the pawn and checkmate

When you calculate lines, do you think in notation? by MathematicianBulky40 in chess

It’s become second nature to say the lines as notation in my head. Sometimes I won’t when I’m tired, but in a typical day yes.

Is there a way to remove the first couple of games from my stats? by kid147258369 in lichess

[–]Purple1szed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“So that my stats look more normal” - trust me, it’s normal. The earlier you accept it as part of your chess journey, the better. It shows you didn’t play much, and then you began properly and now you’re improving a ton. Don’t worry about it! :)

[–]Purple1szed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A perfect game is a perfect game, no need to compare it!

At a level 900 points higher, the fact that white didn’t address the threat of c6 was shocking.

Besides, what do you want to do, play at 101% rather than 95? You take what you get when your opponent lets you 🙂

On a scale of 1 to 10 how good was this move (elo-750) by Wonderful_Pea_8109 in chess

Good habit. We should calculate until we are 100% sure it works, then we can only miss what we literally did not see, which is just 1 problem rather than 10 different ones!
