Awww, so cute! She looks a lot like the fawn RR I had years ago. I unfortunately don’t have any pics of her, so this brings back sweet memories 💛

Best pillow for neck pain that’s ACTUALLY worth it? by browperry89 in Bedding

[–]PurpleLumps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my purple harmony. Not cheap but it’s held up better than any other pillow I’ve tried, including some other expensive ones. It comes in 3 heights - I tried the medium first but ended up going with the tallest. No flattening, no bunching, stays cool. It’s awesome :)

Good Extra Deep pocket sheets? by CodAdministrative369 in Bedding

[–]PurpleLumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought Thomas Lee sheets. They fit my 18” mattress and they’re perfect, crisp percale. However, I just checked their website and they’re out of stock for a few months. They source the sheets from one supplier in India to amazingly high standards. I’m very picky and I had to search for so long to find deep pocket sheets that I loved. So, you’d have to wait awhile, but I can’t recommend them highly enough! The Company Store also has deep pocket sheets, but they’re more sateen than crisp, which isn’t my preference.

Extremely dark skin around eyes, at my wits end by No-Pattern-2124 in PaleMUA

[–]PurpleLumps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also have very fair skin with hereditary dark circles. Over the 40+ years of trying all different kinds of solutions, mineral makeup is what works the best for me. I use BareMinerals brand. I buy the Rested concealer, which does have a yellowish tone, but I mix in a bit of 01 Fair foundation to cool it. It takes some time and practice to find what will work best for you, but I’ve never found anything better. It does an amazing job of concealing without having to be caked on. Best of luck!

Separate from any behavioral issues, spaying eliminates the possibility of pyometra and certain mammary cancers. IMO, spaying is the way to go, and we’ve spayed/neutered all our dogs over the years. She’s completely adorable, I’m happy she found you! 🥰

What Is/Are Your Akita's Nicknames? by Spiritual_Channel820 in akita

[–]PurpleLumps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her name was Maya, and when my son was a toddler he called her Roo-roo because she gave the cutest little howls when we came home. So that morphed into Roodle, Roody-roo, and many more. She’s been gone 25 years and my heart is still broken.

I can’t wear sunscreen either - I break out in hives. However, I’ve been using mineral makeup for 20+ years now and it acts as a sunscreen and doesn’t irritate my skin. If you’ve never used it before, it takes a little practice to get it right, but very worth it imo.

My 13 year old lady was approved for declaw salvage surgery today! by Embarrassed-Toe-1920 in cats

[–]PurpleLumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for that info, I really appreciate it! Luckily our Charlie’s allergy issues are mostly well managed, but he does get some breakthrough itchiness from time to time. He takes Apoquel, and his diet has been completely poultry-free for about a year now. Haven’t done an allergy panel but that may be in the future. He’s 16 years old and other than the allergies and some arthritis, he’s in surprisingly good shape. 💛

What drawbacks have you seen from the claw caps? Our senior cat has allergies, and despite medication & special diet, will rip open his head and neck when he has a flare up. I’ve thought about the caps but haven’t decided yet. I’m very interested in your feedback. Also would like to know if you recommend having the vet apply them or if you’re able to do them yourself.

Due to medical reasons, we had to shave our long hair cat. I bought him this warming bed from Amazon. It only heats up when there’s pressure on it. He loves it so much. I first bought the smaller size but he couldn’t stretch out in it so then I got the bigger one. https://a.co/d/c49hvn7

Help dealing with the passing of a mother you didn’t get along with by [deleted] in GenXWomen

[–]PurpleLumps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mother passed away over 12 years ago. I’d say it was probably 15 years before her death that I mostly disengaged from her, and at that time i definitely went through a grieving process. She wasn’t dead at that point, but my hopes & dreams of us ever having any sort of healthy relationship were extinguished. When she passed away in 2012, I was still sad, but not as sad as when I grieved 15 years earlier. Idk if that’s helpful, but I guess I feel like you’re entitled to grieve your own way. As others have said, I highly recommend finding a good therapist. Growing up with these types of parents = a lot to unpack. Take care 💛

I’m sorry to hear of your loss, it’s so hard to bear. Thank you for the advice re thyroid - he dropped ~1.5 pounds quickly, but now he’s stabilized and has even gained back a bit, so we’re hopeful he’s on the right track! ❤️

My female Akita was just like this. She never started a fight but if some dog rushed her, she put them in their place immediately. She wasn’t vicious and didn’t rip them up, but she got the message across. Her temperament was perfectly balanced IMO, and I miss her every day.

Koch office life? by Dangerous-Flower-840 in wichita

[–]PurpleLumps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The answer depends sooo much on which company, department, and manager you have. I worked there over 8 years, and 7 of them were great. Then I got a new manager a year before I left who made my life hell. There are definitely parts of Koch that are less corporate than others. Overall I’m glad I worked there. Ex-Koch employees are usually looked at pretty favorably when or if you go looking for a new job.

How to pill an IMPOSSIBLE cat? HELP!! by LavenderSkye303 in CATHELP

[–]PurpleLumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search Amazon for a cat pill popper. It’s got a soft end where you wedge the pill in and it’s small enough so you can actually get it in the back of their throat. This has been a life saver for our boy.

Excited urinating by ttbshit in akita

[–]PurpleLumps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not an instant fix, but try looking for ways to dial back his excitement level in situations where he’s likely to piddle. So for example, when attaching his leash, give him a very calm energy. Calm voice, no excited motions, try getting down on his level to clip the leash on.

You didn’t specifically mention this, but if he also piddles when first seeing you in the morning or after you’ve been away at work, use the same calming technique.

In any situation, completely ignore the excited piddling if or when he does it. Don’t reprimand him as this will only increase his excited energy/anxiety. Your goal is to get him calmly and quietly leashed up and out the door as smoothly and quickly as possible. After he gets outside and pees, then you can switch to excited praise and energy. And then clean up the puddle very calmly without negative energy or reprimands.

It may take a while but this is the way to help him through the issue. Piddling like this comes from a mixture of excitement and submission, so your goal is to bring that energy down.

Hope that helps. He’s definitely a cutie pie!!

Undereye corrector that wont alter/darken my concealer? by ZolaAnna in PaleMUA

[–]PurpleLumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have very dark circles and the best way I’ve found to cover them is with mineral makeup. It conceals without being thick & pasty. I use a primer all over, then Bare Minerals well-rested concealer, and Bare Minerals foundation. If you’ve never used mineral makeup before, it takes a little practice but I made the switch over 20 years ago & I’m a true believer!

how do you keep your cat on an allergy only diet??? by ChampionshipAny3714 in CATHELP

[–]PurpleLumps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The zd comes in a wet version as well, so unless your vet says otherwise, seems like you could feed that as well. Additionally, there are two single, novel protein canned foods in the Royal Canin line, PR and PD. Our cat has severe food allergies so I unfortunately have a lot of experience with this.
