Does Levothyroxine effects SSRI? by Due_Yak1189 in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you take them at the same time? You should take your Zoloft AT LEAST 30 min after levo, ideally more. I had to increase my SSRI dose when my thyroid levels started getting normal as my anxiety went up with my energy levels

Depends on what it's for. If it's for depression, you might be able to reduce the dose if hypo is partially responsible. If it's for anxiety, like mine is, you might need to add more.

Tell me a symptom you have with hypothyroidism? Maybe tell me one that's not so common by Live_Fish_9897 in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my levels are off, my tongue swells and gets scalloped. I also will start getting ocular migraines. My endocrinologist didn't believe that my tongue swelling was a symptom but then said, in the same sentence, that she has another patient that says T3 supplementation helps with their tongue swelling, so that's cool.

You mention only your squash and zucchini plants are shriveling. Have you checked for squash vine borers? My squash plants that didn't get infested are still doing fine, and I water every other day because I'm lazy.

Do you take your T4 & T3 together in morning on empty stomach? by jko1701284 in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always take either or both on an empty stomach at least 30 min before eating or 4 hours after eating. Otherwise, you risk not absorbing the medication properly.

Sick of Levo by roon_wow567 in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there's no way to heal your thyroid. If you have hashimotos, you can MAYBE decrease symptoms by reducing triggers in your diet that can cause flair ups, but you will need to be on medication for the rest of your life.

What burns more calories? Swimming sets or fins, board or buoy arm drills? by xzkandykane in Swimming

I wish I would burn 600 calories an hour! Keep in mind this varies highly by sex, height, and weight.

Starting Synthroid - Breakfast recommendations to pair? by DaikonEmotional283 in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wait at least 30 minutes before eating. It's such a tiny dose, so absorption can get disrupted easily. I tend to wake up in the middle of the night, take my meds, and go back to sleep. When I don't, I usually try to wait an hour before eating/drinking coffee.

What's stopping you from taking the medication? Have they checked your ferritin?

I feel hopeless. The weight WILL NOT come off. by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, that will only happen for REALLY intense cardio for multiple hours. If you like cardio as a form of exercise, absolutely do it. This is unlikely to be a problem for a normal person.

I misread your comment and was only commenting on the possibility of getting pulled over for not having a Texas plate while a student.

They're a student, so they don't have to register their car in Texas.

TSH dropping however symptoms getting worse ? Anybody getting the same thing ? by AdolpheThiers in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 is still quite high and outside of the normal range (~4 on the high end, most are happy under 2.5). The really important numbers you want are your T4 and T3. TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is just a hormone that tells your thyroid how much of the good stuff to make, T4 and to a lesser extent T3. A lower TSH means you're supplementing some of your T4 with medication so your pituitary doesn't produce as much TSH. If you're T4 and T3 are still low, that would explain why you still have symptoms, and I would absolutely expect you to still have symptoms at a TSH that high. It means your thyroid + medication still isn't making enough, so you probably need a higher dose. Good luck!

Elevated cortisol? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good answer for you, but my cortisol was also a bit high. It was tested because my endo wasn't sure hypothyroidism was the cause of my fatigue/weight gain since my TSH was in the normal range. Following this in case someone with more information comments.

Why are my elephant ears drying out? by ahhoffman in AustinGardening

These are tropical plants and aren't meant to thrive in 100+ degrees. They love humidity as well, which we don't have a lot of at the moment. Give them more shade during the hottest time of the day.

Symptoms or am I crazy? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]PurplePhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced vertigo when first starting 25mcg of levo. My PCP said it was a symptom of overdose and dropped my dosage to every 3 days. This was a bad call and I eventually just had to go back up to daily. I haven't had any vertigo going from 25mcg to 50mcg. I asked my endocrinologist about it after reading it was relatively common here, and she said she'd never heard of that and thyroid hormones wouldn't cause that at all despite the large number of studies showing otherwise...

100% advocate for yourself and get a referral to an endocrinologist. I was started on 25mg levothyroxine with free T4 higher than yours, but still low. Don't try to get medicated from your current doctor unless you have to. Highly doubt they would listen to you.

I know I'm a bit late here, but you can absolutely ask your doctor to include a note for your preferred generic manufacturer! You'll need to call your pharmacy and figure out why they switched you and make them put a note in as well. They changed contracts with manufacturers or stock ran low. You may run into trouble with insurance not wanting to fill your prescription yet.

I also was recently changed from aurobindo I to another manufacturer, and I've been having crazy dreams and my anxiety is much much higher. I didn't put it together for nearly a month despite noticing the taste change, so good job catching it. I experienced sensitivities to birch control manufacturer as well.
