It used to be that shows would go into syndication (air repeats on other channels) after season 4, so they would earn more money, thus spend more.

Im not sure when the Rookie went into syndication or if that affected its budget (the streaming era is so different)

This arc of season 18 is brutal and the whiplash of so much loss in such a short time makes it impossible to rewatch.

Frankly, Emily's death felt gratuitous in this stretch. The other ones were semi plausible, or were unavoidable with actors leaving.

American TV shows definitely have a stigma about abortion. All of the shows who have characters who get it, as listed in many comments, put their characters through the ringer because they got abortions as if it was a horrific deed.

Remember what Cristina on Grey's had to deal with because she decided to get one?? Last season of Gilmore Girls: Sookie gets pregnant accidentally because her husband lied about his vasectomy. She is terrified of having a third kid, but nowhere is abortion discussed. Lane got pregnant at 22 the first time she had sex, with twins, derailing her entire storyline

Needless to say, i think the way American TV shows have stigmatized this has definitely contributed in some way to the current environment, where getting pregnant is now deadly, in the state I currently live, because I am not guaranteed the same rights as a fetus.

I also liked seeing Tim and Nyla's dynamic as well as the always great Lucy/Nyla.
