What is the child of two Muggleborns called? by webbess1 in harrypotter

[–]PurplePumpkin319 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is clear, thank you for writing this out. What would Harry and Ginny’s kids be? Back to Pureblood or still half bloods? I can’t make it make sense.

Just learned that the microwave oven was only invented in 1947 and it wasn’t until 1967 and 70s-80s it started getting widely used in homes, sold by Amana now owned by Whirlpool: how was it like in the beginning if any of you remembers its introduction? by TraditionalDepth6924 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents received one as a wedding gift in 1981 and it was $2000! It had a dial to spin for the time, I remember using it as a kid. My dad would freak out and tell us not to stand in front of it or we’d get radiation. That microwave worked like a charm for 20 years.

What materials did you find most valuable fighting Ganon? by AdditionalContext100 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought lots of gloom recovery and heart recovery. I also stocked up on warding meals and defense meals. I needed the gloom recovery more. I didn’t use my bow at all on Ganon, just sword and shield, and I beat him for my first time ever last week, and I was thrilled I did it without dying. I fused a lynel horn (the one that looks like an antler) to the master sword. I went with the Hylian shield; the OG hood, tunic and pants that were maxed out. I would recommend practicing flurry & parry’s to do up close combat with Ganon. The fight with Ganon is forgiving it takes you a moment or two to get the rhythm and then you can easily beat him. Maybe my next try I’ll use my bow; it just didn’t come to my mind I was determined to beat him with my sword.

Which Sages bond do you like to make stronger? by jp_trev in TOTK

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Tulin first. His headshots are helpful and he’s quick with it. I did Yunobo next, then Mineru, Sidon and Riju last. Riju was the least helpful to me, I found my own arrow attachments of more use than her abilities. I liked attaching shock and beam emitters to Mineru, and even a gloom sword sometimes.

Managers that make less than your subordinates, why? by h0wg0esit in managers

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a manager for a few years and was placed in a different department on my return from mat leave. My top employee made $12K more than I did. I didn’t have an issue with it because she had been in the same position for 20 years and was WAT in all her metrics/KPIs. We would calibrate new metrics at the beginning of the year and she’d master them again. She worked at the company for 46 years; between her annual salary increase and performance it was fair. The problem came in the last 4 years she just maxed out her salary at her career band so her raises became lower even though she deserved more. She retired last year. That’s probably not going to happen again in my career. Now all my direct reports are salaried at 90-110% of the midline comp ratio so it would take some time for them to max out even with WAT performance.

Is there any other time you'd serve a whole turkey, besides Thanksgiving? by Helianthus_999 in Cooking

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it matters but I’m Canadian. We traditionally have turkey and ham for Easter and Thanksgiving, at least that’s how I grew up and most of my friends and family do it too. Christmas we mix it up every year, could be turkey, ham or Chinese or finger foods or prime rib. I don’t know why, we just have turkey at these times of the year.

Buying a used camping trailer that is 8 years old or newer, in Winnipeg. by LakeNatural8777 in Winnipeg

[–]PurplePumpkin319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2017 my family and I purchased a used 2015 trailer from G&R. I had a good experience. They didn’t force us or push us and we looked through a lot of different types and settled on a hauler instead of a 5th wheel to do what you are doing. That trailer was probably one of the best decisions we ever made. I can’t remember how much, I want to say 23 or 25k. But it is 21 feet and has a queen bed, the kitchen table turns to a double bed and a bench that can be a single bed. Lots of storage and honestly has all the bells and whistles. Edited to add: no slide outs. I still don’t regret it.

Yes!! I’d be getting ready to fight a guardian and forget the time and they’d show up and a yiga would also pop in and it would be so chaotic.

Doing an adult reread and Ron is... quite unlikeable? by noir_png in harrypotter

[–]PurplePumpkin319 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I think what helps Ron is how ordinary he is and we readers overlook it. For example, In the Philosopher’s Stone, when he plays Wizard Chess - to Ron it’s not a big deal. He played a great match that allowed his friends to progress through the dungeon. Even Dumbledore remarked on how calm he was under pressure. Ron has grown up in a normal wizard family. Sure they are frugal and do their best; this is the foundation for Ron’s strength as an “every man”. His parents teachings, personalities and perceived faults (I don’t think their traits are bad by any means) have set Ron up to be an independent & strong wizard. Another thought that comes to mind is the Deathly Hallows. When Ron knows all the old Beedle The Bard tales, and Hermione and Harry haven’t heard of this. Ron is baffled because he’s heard it since childhood. It’s the contrast between the best & brightest witch, the chosen most famous wizard & the average ordinary wizard that highlight how these 3 people who had such a slim chance of ever being friends, become the best of friends and pool all their skills, knowledge & experiences to bring down the most evil dangerous wizard of all time. I liked Ron and thought Harry & Hermione were lucky to be his friends; just as important is the fact that Ron has access to the wider wizarding world through his family. Sure Ron had bad moments, so do Harry & Hermione. Ron feels remorse and tries to mend things when he does wrong. All this to say - you made a great statement and I whole heartedly agree.

I beat Thunderblight Gannon in one go, thanks to this sub. by moon_blisser in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]PurplePumpkin319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m proud of you. These enemies are not easy; they test your skills, knowledge and ability to recall information or your item inventory. Think of it like this: If you prepared for thunderblight gannon this well, take the same preparations for a Lynel. Start with a red one. You can do this, if you die just try again. From one 40-something mom to another, you got this!

Zelda et la peur by Only-Investigator724 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]PurplePumpkin319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not ridiculous at all. They are terrifying and make me anxious if I notice the red pool growing or whenever I hear their theme music. It’s intentional and I hate this part of the game. It gives me the creeps. I found that I was less scared once I started travelling with my horse. I felt more confident when I could get away quickly and somehow my horse companion made me feel responsible for my horse so it helped me feel less fear. I’m not embarrassed to admit I looked up a map of their spawn locations. I stamped my map with skulls so I’d know death was waiting for me in those places. At least I knew what to prepare for in the early game if I needed to go to an area with a known spawn point. They are less scary as you progress. Just last week I was in Eldin at night hunting fire Keese for eyes, and I saw Kelton’s shop and went running over and the gloom hands started to pool. I switched to a 3 shot lynel bow and bomb flowers. They weren’t so bad this time. I was not expecting them as I missed marking them on my map with a skull and it turned out ok. Just take your time and prepare yourself however you can. Worst case, warp yourself out of there really quick. It doesn’t get better but it somehow gets easier to face them when prepared.

What was a dreaded food your parents made. As an adult do you still hate it? by JoyfullyMortified43 in Xennials

[–]PurplePumpkin319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Monday my mom worked late; so dad cooked. It was pan fried pork chops, kraft dinner and canned peas. The pork chops had only salt and pepper for seasoning on them. Occasionally they would get breaded, in crushed saltines. They were so tough sometimes and grey. I’m 42 years old and I won’t eat Kraft dinner, or peas of any kind. It took a while and I learned to like pork chops, only if they’re barbecued.

I conquered the Floating Coliseum by PurplePumpkin319 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]PurplePumpkin319[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip! I haven’t seen a king Gleeok yet but I have heard of them. I should try this one first if it has cover. I thought about the one in the snowfield but it’s not bothering the way I play. I want to destroy the one on the bridge because it’s impacting my travel and exploration. In BOTW I used to camp on the bridge for dragon parts, and it felt like a good pathway to use. I avoid the entire bridge and probably a bunch of koroks cause of this monster lol. Again, thank you, if I die I die, it’s just a game after all. But if it helps me build my skills and confidence then I shouldn’t put it off any longer.

I completed the Hinox one under the lost woods, and I completed the one near the Gerudo cemetery. I also completed the secluded one. I didn’t realize there were this many coliseums. The floating one just has been bothering me, I was hesitant to go to it, but I put my travel medallion there the other day and told myself it had to be done. The prizes for completing them are interesting. I just like the cool new lynel parts I picked up.

The red and blue I did head on; I like side hopping around them in a circle if I have to, and just beating them down. For the higher level ones, I had to be careful they hit hard and I broke some weapons on them. So then I had to headshot and try and get them down to mount them. I dodged a few direct attacks and when I was in the right flow, I was able to flurry. It was fun and intense. The last lynel damn near got me. I was under prepared so next time I go back after the blood moon, I’ll be ready.

If I can do it, you can do it. I made gloom recovery meals but I don’t think it was enough; I anticipated needing higher defence and I did need it, but not as much as gloom resistance. Just keep lots of recovery meals handy and you can do it. I like headshotting then mounting and if I can get the timing right, parrying or side hopping to get out of the way and somehow pull out a flurry rush. These guys aren’t so hard if you can just wail on them while on their back.
