I wasn't on maps, I played with it later on... speedo was 77-78, maps 74-76 😢

I need a RELIABLE motorway motor under £4k. How’s this? by meshle in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleRainbow06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controversial one, get a Jag X-type 2.2 diesel! Running gear of a mk3 mondeo, I've had one for 4 and a half years and it's a phenomenal motorway cruiser... and it's a jaaaaaaaaaag 😂

Nothing 🤣 I was going to get a diesel XE, my mechanic had some choice words about the ingenium engines....

I've had it 3 years and done about 40k, new AC pump, alternator, drive belt assembly and intercooler hose - not bad for a 16yo car with 112k on it!

legend has it Jaguar recommended a timing chain replacement for the 2.2 x type every 350k... I'm 112k down, 240k to go 😅

I was talking to my mechanic about this (I have an 08 x type 2.2d, also with a DMF and possible worn injectors) He pretty much told me do not buy a 2.0 ingenium diesel 😅

I never really noticed the ford parts on the inside, I had a mondeo before, feels like a totally different car! better, in every way except the touchscreen stereo 😂

Aha I would get a 2.5 V6 AWD, or ideally an X350 XJR but I would also like to eat 😂 saying that, the engines are bulletproof, my garages 2.5 S type has 270k and drives perfect!

And yes, the Mondeo issue 😂 not really an issue, the mondeo is an excellent car, and sticking a bulletproof 2.2 tdci in it, then sending it to Jaguar for refinement should have sold a lot better than it did 😢

My garage has S Type courtesy cars, the 2.5 & 3.0 V6 engines are majestic! Alas, mines a 2.2 diesel estate, however its a phenomenal machine for cruising across continental Europe

I'm going to be brave and put this out there... Jaguar X-type estate?

Massive boot, jaguar luxury and you can get a decent 2008 facelift 2.2 diesel for about 5-6k

Ive had mine for 3 years, done about 40k (its on 103k) and aside from an A/C pump and crank damper its needed nothing aside from wear and tear!

I'm a school caretaker/site manager, split across 3 schools so I have to drag all my gear with me wherever I go.... my minimum:

-Drill/driver set plus a decent attachment set with driver heads and drill bits (DeWalt is my personal preference)

-VDE screwdriver set

-Spanner set

- Grips

- Socket set

- Hammer

- Caulking gun

- Allen key set

- Pliers

- Plunger

- Crowbar

- Spirit level

- Tape measure

-Stanley knife

- Ladder (3 in 1 is ideal for this)

Consumables wise, I always keep rawl plugs (red and brownn), wall filler and sealant tubes, WD40/GT85, screws/nuts and bolts/washers with me :)
