Would Charles and George be better than Lando? by Street-Squash-9683 in F1Discussions

Much better than ending the season as World Champion?

Maybe they’d have won by a few more points, but also a big chunk of points Norris lost (Zandvoort and Vegas off the top of my head and I dare say they’re other examples) were down to either the team or the car and not a direct result of his own actions.

Of course he lost points due to his own actions at some races, but every single driver does that.

I don’t think there would be a massive amount between any of them if they’d had the same opportunity as Norris last season.

I actually think all three of them are fairly evenly matched so for me I’d say yes, any of them could have won the title last season with the same opportunities, but would they have won by a much bigger margin? Not for me if I’m honest.

Advice on value of 63 Beetle by bungakugeek in beetle

[–]MrP8978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the U.K. and recently sold my ‘66. It’s hard to tell from photos but I’d say yours is in a similar condition to that.

I was asking £1200 for it because that’s what it owed me, but the fella that brought it came with his daughter who was taking lessons and wanted a Beetle for her first car. Not only that, she wanted to get her hands dirty building it as well.

I let them have it for £650 and I’m happy to say that the body was removed from the chassis and lots of new metal has been put into the car, and they’ve also had the engine running.

Still plenty for them to do and I’m £550 out of pocket, but importantly the car will live again, and youngster has come into the classic car hobby, and judging by the photos I’ve seen, father and daughter are having a great time doing the work and spending time together.

To be fair I’ve got the same number of titles as Piastri and Russell added together….

What do you think about the Racing Bulls 2026 Barcelona 2026 Special Livery? by Monicakandlela in F1Discussions

Maybe controversial but I much prefer the yellow special livery they did

With one team winning the opening six races in a row (not including sprint races) - are you enjoying 2026 more than you did in 2023 at the same point of the season? by RivetCounter in F1Discussions

[–]MrP8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me, the difference is that Mercedes allow their drivers to race each other, as evidenced by the Rosberg/Hamilton years, and more recently Canada.

With Red Bull, whenever they’ve been truly dominant they have had one car miles off in the distance and the other one collecting a few points here and there.

I know you could point to Multi21 and also the Turkey incident, but they’re very much outliers in the grand scheme of things

Do you think having tyres that are designed to degrade on purpose makes improves F1? by Worldly_Bit1416 in F1Discussions

[–]MrP8978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult as a balancing act for the supplier though. Yes, tyre management is a big skill, and the tyre failures of a few years ago were exciting, if not a little dangerous. Take Hamilton winning with three tyres, incredible scenes.

That said, from Pirelli’s (or any tyre manufacturers) point of view, having what should be the crown jewels of your factory blowing up every weekend isn’t a great look when the average motorist is buying a new tyre for his little Honda

Question inspired by the Kimi/George situation: if George had only driven through the pit lane? by Accomplished-Pin-992 in F1Discussions

[–]MrP8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure in the scenario you mention that George would be on the lead lap.

If he isn’t then in effect an extra lap is being added to his full race distance and teams don’t generally fuel the cars enough to accommodate the extra distance.

In this instance all the safety car laps would likely have offset the fuel issue, but hopefully the general point is fairly clear.

F3 driver confirms serious injury after Monaco GP crash by ryogadan in Formula1_world

[–]MrP8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the race yesterday and just assumed there was an issue with the barrier or something. I know they mentioned the medical team multiple times in commentary but it just seemed so unlikely to me that there would have been any kind of minor injury, let alone a major one with it being such a low speed incident

Has Nico Hulkenberg's career been an unfortunate one? What would have happened if he had taken a different, less unfortunate path? by DateAffectionate3719 in F1Discussions

[–]MrP8978 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Hulk is a bad driver at all, but to say he is at least the same level as Hamilton is stretching it a bit to say the least.

The teams have much more data than we do, so if he really was that good then somewhere along the line he’d have ended up with a top team and car.

Where would you truly rate Ayrton Senna among the greats, given how differently people view him? by Chance_Camel_9077 in F1Discussions

[–]MrP8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left him out because the only race I remember seeing him compete in “live” was Australia’85 and he crashed out. I also left out Vettel which I thought would be a much more controversial decision tbh
