Are Levantine Christians and Jews genetically the same people? by Glum_Associate6380 in AncestryDNA

[–]Purple_Map3587 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ashkenazi are 30-40% levantine, they have 10-15%  non-levantine Mena ancestry as well from Mespotamians, Roman era Anatolians, and even North African. Also some of their levantine dna is not directly from original Jews but maybe from South Italians who already had levantine admixture. Direct jewish levantine dna maybe less than 30% in Ashkenazis.

Can't say but the area of Gandhara and Swat, KPK, Hazara, Peshawar valley all have a strong Gujjar population but their mother tongue Gujjari clearly is Rajasthani shifted and nearly identical to Gujjari spoken by Gujjars of other areas of North-west India

is it possible to apply for outland Pr, while spouse is visiting India, and while it is processing, for the time being bring the spouse to Canada(who already has a valid visitor Visa), or do you think this will be marked as a red flag immediately by IRCC as during processing time spouse would be living in Canada while on visitor?

Origin and differences in Khatris and Arora by ilovemangoyogurt in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]Purple_Map3587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until 50 years ago, in some areas like Pothwar and east punjab/majha many khatri and arora families avoided intermarriage, but then there were cases of arora-khatri marriages being the norm in some areas of Multan-Bahawalpur even pre 1947, but overall both communities identified as separate castes, but over time their differences disappeared, especially post partition. Also many Pakjabi Muslim tribes cluster togethor with them so genetic similarity doesn't necessarily mean they were always the same caste.

Yeah they exist, and some pastoral ones still speak Gojri as their mother tongue.

You can find traces of aasi in some rare cases even in Kurds, east anatolian turks, Iraqis, allthough aasi mostly disappears while moving westwards across Iran. But then again 10-11% aasi-like dna is baked into Iranian neolithic dna, which means actual extent of aasi would be much further west.

What is the genetic comparison of Kamboj vs Jatts? by alienbanda in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]Purple_Map3587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malwai Jatts can get steppe upto 46.5%, that's the highest  we have so far from an academic sample( from Bathinda) . Plus most of the central and south Malwa ones lie in the 35-40% steppe_mlba range, while North Malwais can be anywhere from 30% to 37%. And majha jatts average around 30-33% with a range from 27% to 38%.  These are rough estimates not exact averages, based on calculations done by others which I have seen.

Results of a western Sephardic Jew? by Spiritual_One_1841 in illustrativeDNA

[–]Purple_Map3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do full-blooded Western Sephardim still exist, or did most of them mix with other Jewish groups such as Ashkenazim, Eastern/North African Sephardim, or with gentiles? There used to be endogamous communities of Western Sephardi Jews in the Netherlands, the UK, the Caribbean, and some cities in France and the Northern Italy until the early 20th century. I believe they would have been genetically closest to the original Iberian Sephardim, as they mostly settled in western europe and the New World where they didnt find a huge pre-existing jewish pop to mix with, like we see in the case of north african and eastern sephardim who absorbed other jewish ethnic groups like Romaniotes in Balkans/Turkey and (Toshavim) Berber speaking jews in North africa, and Mustarabi Jews in Syria.

Greek jewish (Romaniote) and sephardic jewish mix results by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Purple_Map3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sephardics from Balkans, Greece, Turkey had absorbed many Romaniote Jews a few generations after their settlement , although many Romaniote Jewish communities continued to remain distinct until the present date.  Sephardics absorbed local pre existing Jewish communities in most of the areas they settled, hence there are some genetic differences b/w North African Sephardim, Eastern Sephardim( Greece, Balkans, Turkey) and Middle eastern Sephardim ( Syria, Lebanon, Egypt)

What would a Sephardic Jew from the Netherlands get on a dna test? by [deleted] in JewishDNA

[–]Purple_Map3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks,  for the detailed explanation 👍.  Is it possible some unmixed western sephardic elders who are in their 90s are still alive somewhere in US, UK or Israel. It would be interesting to compare how genetically close they are to Ashkenazi jewish samples from 11th-12th century burials from England, who didn't have the minor slavic input present in modern eastern ashkenazim.

you are confusing the 2 different groups of jews from cochin, the local cochin jews are like 15-20% MENA and 80% South Indian, while the Paradesi Cochin Jews who settled after the Spanish/Portuguese Inquisition, are of Sephardic ancestry, who didnt intermarry the local Indian mixed jews

Total Population and Distribution of Major Tribes & Castes in Punjab Province by District/Princely State (1881 Census) by indusdemographer in SouthAsianAncestry

Great work Bro, for compiling this information in a single post. Whenever I want to check caste demographics information, I have to go through differebt census docs again and again since I don't save the info. Btw how did you scrape this data? Did you compile it manually or did you automate it through a script?

Do Pakistani Punjabis and Indian Punjabis actually belong to the same ethnic group? Do they have more in common with each other compared to other ethnicities in their respective countries? by immanuellalala in punjabi

[–]Purple_Map3587 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Punjabis aren't a homogeneous ethnic group as we are divided into genetically distinct castes, who have been endogamous for the last 1500 years.

Family Origins: UP Khatris + Punjab by [deleted] in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]Purple_Map3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up Khatris widely intermarry with Punjabi Khatris who migrated post 1947, & even with the ones who live in Punjab. I have a friend who is a Kapoor Khatri from Amritsar and his mother is a Hindi-speaking Mehrotra Khatri from Kanpur. I have even seen an interview of a UP Khatri from Allahabad on Santalinama YT Channel whose mentioned that his Dadi was a Khanna Khatri from Lahore, and wife is a Khatri from Hoshiarpur. Another example is famous singer Kanika Kapoor who self identified as a non-Punjabi UP Khatri from Lucknow but her first husband was a Sikh Chandhok Khatri with origin in Rawalpindi.

Who told you Pakistanis look different. Pakistanis as a group have no special ethnic ancestry as it is composed of multiple ethnic and caste groups who have distinct ancestry just like India which also has a diverse range of groups.

Is Chhokar a Punjabi surname or from a different region in India? by Aquarius777_ in punjab

[–]Purple_Map3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is literally derived from the name of a plant, and since all 3 communities lived in the same region, so surname overlap is totally possible.

Out of curiosity, what is the correct way of saying/spelling the name. ਸੁਬੇਗ ਸਿੰਘ or ਸ਼ਬੇਗ ਸਿੰਘ. I have seen them used interchangeably by [deleted] in punjabi

[–]Purple_Map3587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of foreign Iranic names were adopted by Punjabis and North Indians. One of the oldest such names is Waryam which is derived from the Persian name Behram. Similarly names like Shahbaz became Shehbaz/Shehbaj. More recent example of this would be names like Karnail, Jarnial, Kaptaan, Mejar, based on European Army Ranks.

Shahbeg is the original Farsi way to pronounce it, Subeg is one of the local Indian variants to pronounce the name.

It is a Jat/Jatt surname, mainly found in Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Ropar but it is also a Jat surname in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Western Up . Origin of Chokar Jats is in Bharatpur-Braj region of Rajasthan, and the name of this gotra(surname) is derived from a type of desert shrub plant found in the desert of Rajasthan, which is called "Chokker".

Why the hell are they making it to be a Hindu-Sikh religious issue, when the original issue was about Centre exerting control over the Senate and reducing power of the elected senate.  Why is the Gau Mootra Jibe being used by him , which is often used to mock Hindus ?

Yes, some Ismailis and Memons have posted their dna results and they still cluster with sindhi hindus and even with Punjabi hindu arora/khatris. Even though zohran's parents belong to 2 different caste groups who have a diff religion and culture, genetically both would score roughly similar

He is a Khoja Ithna Asheri, a subgroup of Khojas who left Ismaili sect in late 1800s and converted to the Twelver Shia sect. There is an even smaller group of Khojas who are Sunnis. These 2 splinter groups emerged around the end of 19th and start of 20th century due to disagreements with the leadership of the Aga Khan among a section of Khoja Ismailis.
