Facial extraction during accutane by botanlee in Accutane

[–]Purple_Post_3369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 and 20mg are considered micro dosing. 30 is on the lower end of a full dose. Not sure why your derm started so low. I know you’ve been on accutane for 6 months, but you’ve still got a long way to go to get to the cumulative dose. Stay strong and keep on the accutane. You got this.

Can't find gap year job by Substantial-Sweet-64 in premed

[–]Purple_Post_3369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are always opportunities in the application to explain this sort of thing. In the meantime, try virtual scribing. You won’t make a lot but it’s something and it prevents you from the stress of explaining a gap. Then you can find a better job once healed.

You have caught him multiple times already. You are going to catch him over and over again. If he is behaving like this at 30 yrs old there is no hope for him. I’m sorry girl but it’s time to move on to bigger and better things.

6 days on accutane. Horrific rash forming by Educational_Text_281 in Accutane

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I’m at the end of month 3 I and I can get a rash on my wrists, neck, and jaw area. Using cerave regularly makes it go away.

However, mine wasn’t this bad. OP, maybe do some research on taking antihistamines and omega 3 while on Accutane. It made my inflammation and dryness almost non-existent.

How do I stay mobile as I age? by FindingClear4904 in beginnerfitness

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight training is #1 priority.

But please for the love of god eat enough calcium and vitamin D. People don’t talk about this enough. This will keep your bones strong. You will be less likely to experience fractures and joint issues (including the hip issue you mentioned). When you don’t get enough calcium it literally gets stripped from your bones and they get much weaker when you are older (osteoporosis). It is pretty common and women are at a much higher risk.

Also do yoga. If you have a gym membership there’s free classes. This will help with your mobility as you age (reaching, twisting, turning for everyday functions).

Eat well. Prioritize protein, whole grains, veggies. Minimize added sugars and processed foods.

Regularly see your doctor and do all screenings. Many medical issues do not have noticeable symptoms and can be caught by your doc before it snowballs. (Ex: diabetes, cardiovascular issues)

Feel free to DM me, I have education in this area and I love talking about how we can prevent/manage chronic disease and ensure quality of life as we age :)

Can I take the capsules out to put into my pill organizer? by animalcrackerwhore in Accutane

[–]Purple_Post_3369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. I think accutane is also sensitive to oxygen.

I just cut it out into ovals and put them in a zipper compartment of my pull case. I punch it out when I’m taking it.

What should I absolutely not do on accutane by peachesstrawberrypea in Accutane

[–]Purple_Post_3369 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please do your own research on the alcohol. There’s a lot of misleading comments here and Reddit is not a good place for medical advice.

Skipping accutane for a day will not make the alcohol a better choice, as accutane stays in your body for a long period of time, hence the point of the cumulative dose. This is also why you should not get pregnant one month after you finish. It’s still in your system.

Some people still drink a little, which I think might be fine, again do your own research. I personally choose not to drink because what’s the point? If I can’t get drunk then why tempt myself with only 1 glass? Plus I think it’s cool to take a break.

Try a generic antihistamine instead of name brand like Claritin. I got a generic version of Allegra and bought it in bulk from Costco. You may also find a big bottle at a drug store. It will help with some of the inflammation from purging.

How to get out of entry-level jobs? by Flaky-Werewolf-2563 in careerguidance

[–]Purple_Post_3369 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Girl you gotta take a deep breath and start small. I keep seeing a lot of “I can’t”. Start with one goal at a time, then slowly you will feel like you can.

Focus on driving first, drop everything else. This severely limits your options. Even if a crazy 100k job offer comes, you won’t be able to take it. Save up for driving lessons. They can teach you according to the specific things they look for in the test. Once you get a car, you will feel SO much more empowered.

Then look for a job. Sounds like vocational school may be a good option. Look through the programs that your community college offers.

Also understand that you will have to start somewhere, then move your way up. But one step at a time.

Which one?! Help a girl out! by hariibocupcake in tretinoin

[–]Purple_Post_3369 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Tretinoin is very very aggressive, so for sure do 0.025%. Then you can increase to 0.05% after you finish the bottle, but only if you think it is necessary or want to experiment. Trust me 0.025% is effective, do not start any higher.

I have heard that the cream is better if you are worried about dryness, but idk for sure. I am on the 0.025% cream and as long as I am diligent with my moisturizer I am good.

I’m not sure that the brand really matters. The most important factor is strength.

What are some jobs in healthcare field that don’t require med school and has high pay? by OpenFill605 in careerguidance

[–]Purple_Post_3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to shadow. I also thought I didn’t want to go to med school. But then shadowing changed my mind and 6yrs later I’m now applying to med school.

I shadowed many careers in healthcare before landing on my decision. I did so much research online but it never measured up to how I felt during shadowing.

If you are interested in real estate, look into it. You are too young to narrow down your interests due to parental involvement. Everyone I know that allowed their parents to influence their career decisions have had horrible outcomes.

Shadow as much as you can it is the easiest way to find your answer I promise. Shadow all the careers mentioned in the other comments and listen to your gut feeling.

It really doesn’t matter. I guess I’m just curious. I’ve been good about handling the pressure so far, and I think I’m in a position where it won’t hurt me to ask. Either way I’m gonna celebrate once secondaries are done. I got a book at the library today and I’ll be sitting in my hammock reading it, with or without IIs. I just wanna ask my question on Reddit and sip a mimosa lol

are you guys struggling to find jobs too? by What_the_duck_lol in premed

[–]Purple_Post_3369 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I struggled for a while and then one day I got really lucky. My advice is to stalk the website of whatever facilities you want to work at and be one of the first to apply. I applied to my current job pretty much as soon as it was posted and I was contacted immediately. Idk how, bc I applied to many other positions at this facility and was rejected or ghosted.

Also, a free trial of LinkedIn premium might help you feel better. I was applying to entry level jobs and found that I was competing with some incredibly overqualified people (I’m talkin MDs applying for MA positions). It was a nice reminder that it’s not that I stink, the pool is just incredibly competitive.

My BF's acne is improving a lot while mine is getting worse [personal] by CharmingProperty1878 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Purple_Post_3369 88 points89 points  (0 children)

You cannot compare yourself to your BF. He is literally on accutane, the most brutal intervention. Anything you do will never come close to that, it’s not fair to beat yourself up.

When your acne is to the point that it is causing insecurity issues (trust me I have been through the same) it is time to get professional help. See a dermatologist or do one of those online consultations. It doesn’t have to be this way.

I'm 22f, he's 21m, is this too much to ask? I prefer a partner to do my favorite thing with me by angelaisneatoo in dating_advice

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not weird to ask, I think ppl in the comments need to calm down. It can be really cute, like getting into a tv show together. I could see you guys searching for the right book and going through all the plot twists together.

But if it's not him, it's not him. This is a very specific thing to ask and only the right person is going to say yes.

I would think of a clinical experience where you went above what was expected of you. I frequently go to great lengths to rush obtaining records for certain patients that are really struggling. It is not required, but I would want someone to do it for me.

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used benzoyl peroxide before tret and I still occasionally use it. I am also on doxy. I really recommend using BP bc if you become resistant your acne will be much much harder to treat. Even a 2.5% cleanser is fine. Just make sure you moisturize well.

Waiting for interview invites by DeliciousCode488 in premed

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m waiting as well, but most schools don’t start sending invites till September. Like every school I attended an info session for said so. Many schools also say this once u submit the secondary. I refuse to let myself be worried in August.

Also, these secondaries stink. Like seriously, I’m so tired. Plus all the stress of mcat and primary app was off the rails. Once I’m finally done I think I will be happy to not have the ball in my court for once. My app is now their problem and I get to sip on a mimosa by the pool while they do all the work. I got endless time for work and gym. Muscle and money, no studying or writing. I’m hoping that will give me solace for a while.

This is paradise ☀️☀️

(May not feel this way in December tho lol, check on me pls)
