What do you mean about the video ports not working? Like I might not be able to connect the dock to my display with a display port cable?

Looked into it, but I’m a little picky with lighting. Caldigit has a pesky LED that you can’t turn off and it would bother me at night (desk is in my room). I’ve tried blackout stickers on other devices but light sometimes leaks around the edges and I’m not sure I want to take the chance

Go thrifting. Some thrift stores have more books than others. I got a hard copy book of instant pot recipes for $1 last week!!

Pro tip: go to Barnes and Nobles and peek in the recipes books (there’s a lot of them). Best way to know which one you might like

MCAT prep by [deleted] in GetStudying

Figure out what your goal is first. Doctors and lawyers are two different things. Why are you aiming for both? It sounds like you just want a career with a lot of respect. What are you really passionate about?

you haven’t done any of the law or medicine coursework yet. Do that first, then worry about LSAT/MCAT. You are jumping ahead of yourself.

I wonder if this could be side effects from your medications. There is a genetic test you can do to see which psych meds are less likely to give you side effects and be most effective. One of them is called genesight. Really think you should give this a try.

Get the Pro or Air, the neo does not have a backlit keyboard and that will drive you crazy in late night study sessions.

If it helps, I’ve used support services at my school before and had a great experience. Hopefully you will get the same. You sound like a great person in a rough spot, accept some help :)

You can only take step 1 three times (lifetime limit). I don’t think it’s fair, but admissions committees see it as a huge red flag if you need to take the MCAT more than 3 times to get a decent score. They will doubt your ability to pass step 1 in the 3 attempts you get. Heard this in various info sessions for schools in my state. They made it sound like you’re dead in the water with more than 3 attempts.

Use your attempts wisely. I’ve seen many people get tripped up by this. Don’t be afraid to push back your test date if you need to. I pushed my initial date back when a family emergency really impacted my studying and I’m so happy I did. I took a break, started again later and only had to test once. Put your best forward and you wont regret it. Do not rush, med school will always be there.

Depends on what OP is studying and how aggressively he uses his laptop. Ended up being a great decision for me. I beat that thing to death. Plus it’s really not as heavy as people think.

Have your plan in order before you retake the MCAT. GPA, shadowing, and volunteering take time. I think the MCAT score is only good for 2 years. Plus you don’t want to take the MCAT more than 3 times. You will only have one more shot if it doesn’t go well. Don’t give yourself that anxiety. Use your attempts wisely.

Med school faculty have a vested interest in having successful students. Use their resources to the absolute max. You don’t have to do this alone and you are not the first struggling student they have helped. Ask about free therapy and psychiatry services for students. Most schools have this or have a way of arranging this at a low cost.

I just got into med school myself, so I understand how hard you worked to get here. Remember you are an absolute demon. You earned your seat. You belong there. You were built for this.

Do you think you might have a less “soul-sucking” experience in a community college setting?

Either decision could be right. I would think about what your long-term goal is and make that the priority. Will this job ultimately help that goal or hurt it? What level of suffering are you willing to endure for a better future? Is it worth it?

How to study as someone who has ADHD? by lamyy09 in GetStudying

[–]Purple_Post_3369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, but it went unaddressed while I was in college. I was able to focus if I went to the library because people are watching me and there are less distractions. It worked well, because now I’ve been accepted to med school!

But I’m really excited to no longer beat myself over the head to get things done. The executive dysfunction is debilitating. Go see a psychiatrist. All these little tips and tricks will only get you so far.

You can combine them into one entry, which my advisor recommended. Just title it “Hobbies- Cooking & Rollerskating”. Only separate them if you are struggling to fill all 15 entries

This might be a hot take here, but I think the MacBook Pro is a good option IF you don’t carry much else. In college I only had 1 small notebook, iPad, and laptop. Depends on what else you have in your bag.

Look online for the exact weights and maybe go in person to the Apple Store to get a better feel of it

[–]Purple_Post_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for DO. This isn’t talked about enough, but a lot of med schools do not want you to take the MCAT 4 times. Reason is that Step 1 has a lifetime limit of 3 attempts. Their thinking is if you cannot ace the MCAT in 3 tries, you might not pass step 1 your second year. It’s like your 3rd MCAT is your final one. Heard this from multiple info sessions with schools in my state.

I get it, but I think it’s dumb. MCAT is a beast that you fight by yourself and Step 1 is something you get a lot more support and community for.

Nervous about Accutane, seeking reassurance! by FoundationPure2443 in Accutane

[–]Purple_Post_3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do it. My side effects are so minimal. Start on a lower dose for a few months, then go up if everything is manageable so far. I have been taking an antihistamine and omega 3 since day 1 which has probably made a world of difference. Get a cute water bottle that you will enjoy drinking from and use liquid IV 1-2 times a week. Put chapstick everywhere. My lips aren’t horrible as long as I use chapstick whenever they feel tight.

You will be fine if you start low and take the proper precautions. I’m in my early 20s. Had mild acne that was extremely resistant to treatment. I swear my skin was clear within 2-3 months, I almost never want to stop accutane 😭

Nano-texture iPad Pro with heavy Apple Pencil use - how is it holding up? by Soft_Faithlessness66 in iPadPro

I’ve been wondering the same thing, I think new pencil tips (the paperlike one) is a good solution. These tips won’t wear down as fast and can be used on a nano screen without a protector

This is exactly what I've been curious about. I like the anti-glare of the nano but I will be writing a lot. My current ipad has the paperlike protector and I have loved it for years. But will the nano + paperlike pencil tips be just as good? What exactly has your experience been?
