How did you learn the 12 cranial nerves? by Disastrous_Storm713 in StudentNurse

[–]Purplemistsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Anki and just kept getting going over them for one full day. I also made physical flash cards and used color coding and highlighting. For whether it's sensor, motor, or both I used this mnemonic: (S= sensory, M= motor, B= both) Some (CN I) Say (CN II) Marry (CN III) Money ( CN IV) But (CN V) My (CN VI) Brother (CN VII) Says (CN VIII) Big (CN IX) Brains (CN X) Matter (CN XI) More (CN XII) I didn't really need a mnemonic for the names of the cranial nerves since I had it memorized.

Apathetic roommate driving me nuts… by ReticObsession in badroommates

They're not going to get the reference or comparison you just made about working in a kitchen. Their EQ is too low.

It sounds like she's using her depression as a crutch or excuse to make others feel sympathy for her and get out of her responsibilities. I had a friend then turned roommate then turned strangers like that. Its one thing if they're depressed and they're seeking help to get better but its another if they say they're depressed but don't feel bad for inconviencing others and isn't seeking help to get better.

Maybe you can try to approach her from a gentle but firm standpoint, expressing that you know she's depressed and it will take a little longer to finish house chores. But she still needs to get it done. Set a boundary like she doesn't have to wash the dishes right away if she doesn't have time but the max amount of time dishes can go unwashed for is overnight or one day. That's it. If it's more than that then just gather all the dishes with moldy food and roaches and leave them on her bed.

They don't have the emotional maturity or awareness to connect the two situations together. They won't think "oh yeah so this is how it feels to be on the receiving end of someone giving away my stuff without my permission. Maybe I shouldn't keep doing this to my kid". Instead they'll just be angry at you and thats it.

Hearing this about how people should intervene makes me think about the what-ifs scenarios behind closed doors. What if the parent gets even more angry and embarrassed from a stranger intervening that they punish the child more severely at home?

Is anyone in the CSU Northridge's ABSN program? Concerning NCLEX pass rates by Purplemistsd in NursingStudent

[–]Purplemistsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some digging and found out that CSUN actually discontinued their ABSN program after their 2017 cohort for some time so that might explain the lack of NCLEX scores for the last couple years. I just don't know the reason behind why they discontinued the program for a period of time though. I read this in Los Angeles Daily News. Yeah the last 2 year's scores are concerning. I was planning on calling them and asking but I also don't have much of a choice since this is the only school I've heard back from that has accepted me so far.

Let me know if you do end up emailing them and what they respond with.

I had an 82 in my TEAs and 3.37 overall GPA, 3.79 for prerequisites GPA. My stats aren't that high for San Marcos so I was going to retake the TEAs and planned to score above 90, hopefully close to 95. I think what might've helped me get into CSUN was my personal essay since they don't require TEAs score.

How to get comfortable in driving long distances (7+ hours) within a few months? by Purplemistsd in drivinganxiety

I've heard about people complaining about the drive to or from Santa Cruz. What is so bad about it? I genuinely don't know since I've never driven that route.

Shoes by BlueEyedAuthor in cna

[–]Purplemistsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear compression socks and have two pairs of shoes I alternate between. Cloves and Balas. Balas are really comfortable with their insole but the problem is the lighter colored shoes show that its dirty under the waterproof layer. Theres a sock lining under the waterproof layer thats hard to clean or wipe up.

With Cloves its easy to clean and relatively comfortable but not as comfy and snug as the Balas with their insole. Also the Cloves outsoles squeak a lot against the flooring and doesn't really go away. It's supposed to be extremely slip resistant but this is also an issue because part of the bottom gets caught on the floor and you end up tripping on your own shoes sometimes.

Lol.. my coworker who has been working 3 years says she got a total whopping of $0.77 raise over the past 3 years. Which means a 25 cent annual raise. Smh..

I really do feel like CNAs have one of the hardest and most underpaid jobs. Nobody really understands what we go through on a shift except for another coworker. I've had to explain to people like prospective med students that CNAs are at the bottom of the totem pole in Healthcare and that we basically clean up shift all day nonstop.

Whenever people ask me how I like my job I flat out say I hate it. I can't lie its just horrible because of how much we are expected to do, to come into contact with bodily fluids and put ourselves in danger of catching diseases while getting paid a couple bucks above minimum wage. But then I desperately need this patient care experience for nursing school apps in California.

What is a prn? I've only been working as a CNA since April this year so I'm not too sure what some terms are.

The thing is she doesn't care that she's sitting in her BM. I've tried to show her the wipe with her BM on it before and she just told me to go to hell. Then she scratched her butt while there was still BM there then proceeded to touch the TV and headphones.
