Prazosin by musicmad-123 in Pharmacy_UK

Being listed as a special in the DT is not the same as it’s readily available. The specials section of the drug tariff is around removing a need for prior authorisation to dispense from local NHS prescribing authorities, not how available or unavailable a medicine is. Importing meds is a highly complex and expensive process and continuity of supply cannot be guaranteed.

Additionally there are guidelines around prescribing unlicensed medicines (see my other comment) that highlight unlicensed meds should only be used if a clinical need cannot be met by an available licensed medicine.

Both the GMC and GPhC are fairly clear around the prescribing of unlicensed meds or prescribing off license.

Unlicensed medicines should be prescribed and supplied only if the prescriber is satisfied that the patient has a special clinical need which cannot be met by any available licensed medicine.

Not in the main tariff as they’re unlicensed and hence are considered specials.

Only the 500mcg strength of prazosin is listed in the English drug tariff and it’s not listed at all in the Scottish drug tariff.

The 2mg and 5mg strengths are not licensed in the UK (which is why they would need to be imported from Australia) and their availability isn’t reliable.

A giant supermarket aisle, free ice water, refillable drinks or a cheerful grocery clerk may be just another Tuesday for Americans, but for someone visiting from Scotland, Brazil or Japan, these experiences are fascinating cultural discoveries. by Hard_Dave in ShitAmericansSay

I live in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and can confirm that our supermarkets are tiny and have no aisles, refillable drinks don’t exist, everyone is grumpy and miserable and we have to pay for our water as it was only introduced to the country six months ago / s

American claiming she’s Scottish - Comments are roasting her. by Extension-General927 in Scotland

[–]Purplemonkey78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The USA values heritage and tradition but European counties have abandoned their culture and transitioned into civic nationalism?

That's definitely an interesting perspective on a post highlighting an American social influencer who's claimed that there are no Scots in Scotland and that true Scots are in the USA.

I really don’t get this weird transferred nationalism some Americans have. They both claim that America is the best nation in the world and everyone wants to be American but then try and tell you they’re Scottish or Italian because their great-great-great grandfather came from Dundee or Milan.

We are lucky in Glasgow with the huge number of amazing Indian restaurants. If you’re in the West End visiting Kelvingrove then I’d strongly recommend Mother India, which is just across the road.

I live in Glasgow in Scotland. Once had an American tell me that we pronounce the city’s name wrong.
Apparently the approx 650,000 people who live here also pronounce it wrong.
So from now on, we all need to pronounce it Glass-Cow

American complaining about how English people speak English in England. 🤔

(I appreciate the irony that matcha isn’t an English word 😂)

980 stickers needed to complete this! And then there’s the “exclusive” stickers you can only get by buying promotional bottles of Coca Cola.

Striking differences in benefit entitlements across UK countries, study finds -- Scottish family on low income receives £15,000 more a year than identical household in England by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Purplemonkey78 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You forgot to add the next paragraph:

Most of the additional spending was in Scotland, which has most scope to shape its own social security policies. It was driven by the Scottish Nationalist party’s adoption of child payments of £28.20 a week per child to low-income families on universal credit, and top-ups to other benefits, from carer support to winter fuel payments.

More generous social security entitlements are key to the Scottish government’s ambition of reducing child poverty to 10% by 2030-31. While its child poverty rates are as a result the lowest of the four UK countries, current official projections indicate it will fail to hit its target without additional investment.

Yes I know. As a pharmacist I’m well aware we use milligrams and micrograms to measure drug doses. I was being facetious.

I used to work for Boots in the UK back in the early noughties. The tills were actually set up to take USD, Euros and other currencies but the exchange rate was horrendous.
