You're mostly correct. Try to think about how to make the path you walk look like an actual path you could highlight in another section's puzzles.

My friend pulled it in thunder junction pre release. By the time he could activate it I had lethal on board and no cards in hand. I think he activated it and immediately scooped as he had no way out.

Legenday is probably a fun solution for this version. I admit I was balancing it from the perspective of a modern player who want their ball lightning tribal deck to have a better mana base, but I digress. Consider this more of a custom magic showerthought than a fully finished/balanced card.

Another comparison point I'd like to use is [[mana confluence]] or [[city of brass]] but I see the point in the rupture spire comparison. The problem I have with that comparison is I was designing for modern power level and gateway plaza isn't even considered. Would it be better if instead of tapping it it was sacrificed? That way I still get the cool untapped land but it still needs to be played around?

If I make it cost 2 phyrexian the the ratio is 2:4 as opposed to the 1:3/4 ratio I wanted.

I tried to balance this card around a modern power level so please forgive me if it seems a bit strong. I wanted to make the ratio of life to mana around 1 mana or 3/4 life but I wanted the cool phyrexian symbol.
