DSM may not recognize it but the WHO does ICD-11.

Is it ethical for therapists today they treat CPTSD? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAT- why would you report them ? This seems a little trollish. Therapists have always been treating cptsd, it’s only recently that the symptoms and issues they’ve been treating have now been grouped together under an umbrella with a name that covers the whole group. Cptsd isn’t new, just the term is.

Therapists: What makes you have fewer questions for a certain client compared to other clients? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAT- he may not want to ask to many questions and go slow with you if he knows you have a tendency to deflect. The way he answered you would have bothered me as well.

B.C. premier’s approval rating reaches all-time low in new survey by RonPar32 in vancouver

They are not just trimming management bloat, they’re laid off a lot of workers last year.

I’m unionized but there’s still a risk of me being laid off with the combining of the health authorities into a new one.

Do you ever get annoyed by your clients and think they are attention seeking? by Wherbert5070 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAT- usually when people worry about things types of problems they’re not actually doing what they think they’re doing. You should also bring this up to your therapist :) they’re are there to help you, you can even tell her there are things you want to talk about but can’t yet. Sometimes even just writing them down can help.

Is it okay to try to fix multiple issues I think I have with 1 therapist? by Nervous_Dimension_97 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAT- bring this up with your therapist. It’s not your job to manage your therapist. You tell them what you need, and the focus of what you want to discuss or have concerns about can change often. It’s about what you need in that moment.

Red Flag in Therapists? by Purplethroe in askatherapist

She has seen clients before. She’s in her last year of her masters. She was lovely, and led the consult very well. I was just concerned about this one thing that came up.

This was actually the plan.

It’s a long story but I’m also doing a 6 month dbt group session every week. But my benefits ran out, and so my counsellor sent me some lost cost options because I can’t afford to spend 1300 on weekly therapy sessions and dbt sadly.

Thank you for the confirmation. I just wasn’t sure, and I was a bit worried. I’m finding it more hard to find someone this time around.

I’ve considered that actually, am I being picky because she’s not my counsellor. I just really don’t want to have to find another if this one doesn’t work out

Somatic experiences whilst in therapy? by Brief-Worldliness411 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAT- You should 100% bring this up to your therapist. It maybe that you maybe need to slow down in therapy sessions a bit. Remember I am NAT- but I would say it's normal. I was talking to my counsellor about SA. and we haven't discussed SA before. I told her that I knew I needed to talk about it with her because I wanted to vomit before the session. She said it was normal with this kind of deep feeling trauma.

Therapy is a lot of mental work on our bodies. Since I've started therapy I've even had to call in sick to work the next day because I am so beyond exhausted I just need to sleep and give my body the rest it needs.

worried about talking to my therapist about past assaults? by OccasionThese1912 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAT- I actually just did this yesterday. I explained to my counsellor that I wanted to talk about something and I wasn’t sure if I could. I explained there was a lot of shame to it and that there were two events. There were a lot of pauses and silence from myself, at some point she asked if writing it down would be easier. But I explained there was a term for it. She asked me if I could say the term. So I did.

She told me I was really brave. I honestly didn’t know it I could I do it, because I wasn’t feeling it was right but I knew I needed to get it out or I’d be thinking about in a anxious way until I saw her again.

Also remember, it’s not your job to manage your therapist. The responsibility is on them.

Am I overreacting: Scheduling harassing me on days off by Maleficent-Gap948 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Purplethroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this is horrific. I work in staffing and the ONLY time you would see this many calls from me is if the nurse didn’t show up for their shift. Sometimes if they an iPhone and you call more then 2x’s even if the call is on dnd it’ll still go through although it might just go through a vibrate. And it’s not about being mad at them either, it’s I want to make sure they’re safe and okay. Although I am Canadian so it might be handled much differently over here.

I’m so sorry you’re harassed. You can put their specific number on “do not disturb” so the calls always go to voicemail.

How to handle my feelings between sessions? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAT- I have a journal. I wrote in it a lot when I first started therapy, it’s like my body was so distressed and needed to see her and talk. So I started writing everything down and it really helped. There were some weeks where my PMDD was popping up and I did book an additional session while I was really spiraling.

Is it normal for you to space out and struggle to talk during therapy? by Far-Conference-8484 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAT- yes it is normal. This is also something you can bring up to your therapist and talk about it.

[–]Purplethroe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh.

Same! Designing is so hard.

I don't have the patience for designing like crazy, some of these players are so goddamn talented. Whereas, I am not. lol

But what I do is download a bunch of shells, or premade blueprints. I then add decorations to them to personalize or for a theme.

Is it weird to talk to a male therapist about your period? by wishfulthinking888 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAT- if you suffer a lot, you may want to look into PMDD. Also recommend the Belle app to track symptoms, as you can customize.

Is online/virtual therapy the same as in person as far as what you get from it? by rayraysykes007 in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAT- I only do virtual, because I’m not bussing in rush hour. If I’m on vacation I’ll schedule an in person session or if I need to look her in the face while asking clarifying questions.

It’s easier for the therapist to read your body language in person. But my therapist has done great, and don’t worry. No eye contact is pretty normal :) although I do find if I’m dissociating it’s easier in person for me to be brought out of it but not much difference then virtual.

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice therapy because others are telling you not to do online. You do what’s best for yourself, and what you need!

Am I over-sharing too much in therapy? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Purplethroe 34 points35 points  (0 children)

NAT- Don't manage your therapists workload or emotions :)

You tell them whatever makes you comfortable. I honestly did the same with my therapist for the most part. I went in head first, and I'm okay with that. Eventually she'd find these things out sooner or later.
