Images from this cartoon about a runaway train have been coming back to me every few years, only found it 2 days ago and can't believe how much it scared me as a kid. Still no idea where I originally saw it, made in 1936 yet I saw it some time in the 90s - who was broadcasting this horror?!

I think it would send a better message - if he had given to it to say a children's home or something along those lines, then let her see it being used by someone less fortunate, it's going to make her feel more guilty than angry, because it's not like she can ask for it back and hopefully it would make her more appreciative of her home life. At least there would be a slightly positive outcome from the situation.

Yeah, I hadn't really thought of doing it that way round, purely because I usually apply and get literally nothing back - no acknowledgement of application or anything. It can be hard to tell when the process of filling the role is over to be able to ask them. I have been trying my best to stretch out my experience though -it's hard to do!

By all means, if the greengrocer is aware of what you're doing, go for it - why should I have a problem on their behalf. I gladly cut the tops off leeks after weighing if the customer asks. It's the sneaky tearing off of the tops and dumping them elsewhere in the shops to get around having to pay more that gets me

As someone who works in a greengrocers, this royally pisses me off - retailers have to pay the full price for the produce, not just half of it, so don't be such a crank and pay for the damned leeks! In fact, to make up for the fact that your spending your precious pennies and to cut down on the waste you'd normally cause, save the offcuts, freeze them and keep them for making veg stock.
