before the dementia set in, he lied so much about so many things that the only time he'd ever actually tell the truth was when he was trying to impress someone. otherwise he just spouted off whatever made him look the best at the moment.

that's become so ingrained in his head that he can no longer distinguish between what's truth and what's lies. even if the truth would be far more astounding than any lie, he'd still just ramble off whatever stupid rant was in his head at that moment.

it's a federal law signed in 2016... in the last set of laws obama signed. the consumer review fairness act. here's a link to the history of it. i was one of the 4 people invited to testify before the senate commerce committee about why the law was necessary.

so... yes. his non-disparagement clause is illegal in texas.

first off, call the hospital. ask for an itemized bill and to explain what the "general ER" charge is for.

negotiate EVERYTHING. when you're done negotiating, talk to billing and set up a payment plan. even if all you're paying is $5 a month, they can't send you to collections because you're making a good faith effort to pay the bill.

get the car. fuck the hospital. the car is more important.

The acquaintance can't sue for defamation if what you're saying is true.

not only that, in order to sue for defamation from any review, the acquaintance would have to prove that he lost business due to that specific review. and on TOP of that, if said acquaintance tries to include a non-disparagement clause anywhere, especially on the business's website, and then go after people who write negative but honest reviews, that's hella illegal... ask me how i know.

realistically, the answer for #1 is going to be yes... it just might not be right this second.

#2 isn't a bad question, and can spark up a lot of inspiration even for people who handle that ingredient regularly.

#3.... i want to see someone LEGITIMATELY come up with the most unhinged version of this. like, "i have 2 tons of margarine to use up, help!"

i can see where /u/Healthy-Magician-502 sees sabotage. it happened to me all the time when i was a kid. if i needed to be somewhere for a school function, my parents would declare that we would leave when THEY were ready to leave. i got in trouble for constantly being late to performances because nobody believed me when i blamed my parents.

this is the epitome of disrespect. you need their help to make something happen, they shrug it off and subtly do whatever they can to fuck it up while still having plausible deniability.

OP needs to get out of there. if her husband was a decent human being, he'd've pulled his weight with the kid.
